It starts out as a father's legacy, played by Peter S. Adams as Mr. Price of " Price and Sons shoe manufacturer ". His passing left the company and his legacy to his son Charlie Price, played by the talented Brandon Wong, struggling to come to grips what to do. From the moment KINKY BOOTS , it started, the whole theatre guests were receptive and riveted in their seats. Each ensemble cast member performed their part on point and with great ease. The main character appeared as an adult "LOLA", played by Gilbert Dabady, elevated the energy level of her character level to a new high! Totally enjoyed the performance! Very convincing! "LOLA", grabbed the audience attention and did not let it go and commanded the stage along with "Charlie Price", played by BRANDON WONG. His powerful voice and acting made for a very entertaining scene! IT WAS A HUGE TREAT TO WITNESS SUCH TALENT, Thank you! This Production of KINKY BOOTS, by DIRECTOR ZOE BRADFORD, has made a huge mark in the Theatre Industry and her Productions are LEGENDARY! Thank you for your devotion to the theatre and this Non-Profit Company to bring the Best Productions in the South Shore for its Community and beyond! Book by HARVEY FIESTEIN, Music & Lyrics by CINDY LAUPER! My last review is for the Talented Orchestra who tied the whole Production together under the DIRECTOR of Robert Mc Donough! THANK YOU ALL!, This Production of " KINKY BOOTS ", educated us all what Acceptance and Unity can do. Love it!

The performance was at the outdoor theater and as luck would have it a storm passed around the area and dropped enough rain to wet the stage but the crew hit the stage dried and there was only a 15 minute delay on beginning the play. Seating is nice utilizing wooden benches with armrests on either side of your seat. They do have complimentary cushions so grab one on your way in as they can go fast. Or bring your own! Very intimate theater and not a bad seat. Handicap parking is plentiful and easy access to the outdoor theater. Portable bathrooms are close by and a short walk to the main theater if you wish to use a 'brick and mortar' bathroom. There is also a regular theater which is used when the weather doesn't allow outdoor performances. Reasonably priced for what was a fantastic show. Will definitely going back again for additional shows.

The main character also played a guitar which truly added to the mood of the performance. We saw it inside due to rain but it was still excellent. Tickets were reasonable for the level of performance. Go!

The intimate setting of the theater, about which much of the conversations in the play was about, created a warm personal atmosphere among the 60 or so who had this great experience. I had a lovely conversation about life's purpose with a young lady Victoria afterwards where we shared our love for the play and for the work of Virginia Woolf who also touches so deeply and beautifully life's wonder and sad fragility. Yes, we should have more great art like this to inspire us to cherish and strive to perfect, not our foolish facades, but the reality of community of all our ghost-like souls who struggle so hard during this short time on earth to find love, meaning and happiness. Thank you actors and playwrights who made this possible. The folks who worked there were also so friendly and welcoming. The actors were superb. I was amazed at how they could remember so many lines of the wonderful convoluted conversations. I wish more people could see this play. It is a magical combination of humor and philosophical depth about what truly matters in life.

I was excited to see that the Lion King was playing at the Providence Performing Arts Center! The theater is very easy to get to and there is a ton of parking nearby. Admissions was swift and not crowded - they definitely are organized and know how to keep the traffic moving. They sell various snacks and some are even locally made like the popcorn I bought. The venue itself is beautiful, especially the theater. The seats are as you would expect - velvety and small. The sound and lights were great. I really enjoyed the show. I will say that at times, I felt distracted - it seemed like the audience was louder than I expected - especially with the snack bags. Oh well, what can you do At intermission the women's bathroom was a little bit of a you know what. But this seems to be a common problem with older theaters. Regardless, I had a great time and would def come back to see another show!

I went to see The Lion King and it was fabulous! The theater is small enough to capture the details without binoculars or an additional screen. The music was captivating. The colors were vivid. A Twisted Christmas Carol; Review Newport Playhouse Dec 1,…read more2025 Complicated. Not the play but the fact I and others, enjoying 3 days in Newport RI in a tour group, were basically a captive audience. "Dinner and a show" is how our itinerary put it. We ate a decent meal in the dining area and then all traipsed upstairs into this cozy little theatre. The stage was more than a proscenium because it projected out, bringing the actors into a more intimate relationship to the audience. (Just a note here: The seats were comfortable but the seat in front of you - seat pitch - was abysmally close. After 3/4 of an hour my knees began to hurt badly.) The play is a loose take on Dickens' Christmas Carol, with a 'Christmas past/Christmas present/Christmas future' structure. All action takes place in a small barbecue pub in west Texas. The proprietor (John Brennan), a grossly insensitive husband to his partner wife (Cass Caduto), is concerned for his business which is sliding downhill. Advice and antics from his live-in customer (Kol Daniel Cross) are scant help. The action unfolds with the help of a former employee (Rosa Nguyen) and the proprietor's former business partner (Matt Goldstein) who stole his barbecue sauce recipe years ago and has profited from it. Oh yes, that business partner is also the wife's former romantic partner, uh-oh. I could not find the author's name for this play. I suspect it was locally written by one or another of the actors or production staff. Maybe it was like a "Oh, we gotta put something together for our Christmas show" collaboration. The script produced a few jarring moments, as when the proprietor who has been in an accident and comatose in the hospital being visited by Christmas ghosts suddenly returns in full health. But the actors clearly enjoyed putting this on. The audience laughed and I think had fun watching although a few may not have had much experience with live performances. At the conclusion they started to leave and were surprised when the actors came out for a curtain-call bow. Ouch!
