I was given a written estimate prior to my dogs spay surgery. It was 1 month before the surgery I received this estimate and I called the week before to ensure everything was set up right. Upon the morning the the surgery I had a family member drop off my dog for the surgery. This person was handed an entirely new estimate with an increase in price from the original of 400 dollars. I called and managed to eventually talk to the owner who did not even know how to read his own companies estimate. This place is horrible, overly expensive, and just bad at business regardless of its 8 good reviews. The front desk isn't trained or knowledgeable in any of the products or billing. The ask you to call in, then rush you off the phone. When texting, the responses imply that they did not read any of the previous texts and request you call in again just to be rushed off the phone. It's a cycle of nothing accomplished. They also tell you the price of items, i.e. cone vs body suit as same price, but they charge differently. They also demand you pay your bill in full before they will explain any charges. Once paid, the dr is put off explaining any of the charges, and simply states, "We're not trying to rip you off", instead of simply explaining what was done and the increase charges from the estimate. I was told, "Wow! We saved your dog's life. You should be more appreciative." Implying that requesting an explanation, not a disagreement, just an explanation of charges was unwarranted. Even with the doors closed, I could hear the doctors and staff cursing about patients and owners in the back of the office. My dog luckily received good medical. However, the office is chaotic, unorganized, pretentious, and robotic. read more

Vets are good and techs are good but The owner is awful... I have been going there for 6 years and I'll never go again bc the owner was so rude He treated me awful and I just had surgery myself and he told me he didn't care bc I wasn't one of his patients. This was all over a $30 charge on a $400 bill. I didn't think I should've had to pay $30 of the bill bc it was a charge for trimming my Pomeranians butt to check for worms. I thought if I was there to check for worms and pay the appointment fee then why add on an additional $30? Long story short he said if I don't pay the $30 then he won't release my dogs medical records so that I can go somewhere else and he threatened to call the police. I said look I just got out of surgery and rescued a dog that I wasn't expecting to have worms bc the APA in Springfield Illinois said he was healthy. Then I had an unexpected Emergency surgery so I just wanted to get in and out of vets office and get back home to my bed but this owner... he was so mean that I left crying The vet, Dr Hummel called me to apologize in regards to the owner but it's too late now. I'm never going back and I would suggest no one else goes there if this is how mgmt team is run. I asked to speak w my vet before I left but the owner said no, I'm the vets mgr... I own them and this place. I wonder if he would want his veterinarians hear that? I'm not making this up... the ladies at front saw it all and saw me crying. I understand they can't say or do much bc they don't want to lose their jobs but trust me their faces told it all. They were mortified and sad for me read more

Overpriced, unprofessional, and poor customer service. Pet was scheduled for procedure. It was not done. Staff said there would be no charge. Doctor charged anyway. We brought our new puppy, Checkers, in for a wellness check this morning and to make sure we have a good vet close by. Well, I don't believe we have a good vet for him; I believe we have an outstanding group of vets right around the corner who were extremely thorough in the check up and who answered each of our questions and asked us questions about things we hadn't thought of. We are very confident that our dog is in good hands and we are better equipped to give him a happy healthy life. I can't say enough good things about this practice. I took my small dog in to this hospital the first week of May, thinking he had a stomach bug or something not so big. The doctor examined him carefully and said he felt a large lump/mass. He immediately (and I mean RIGHT away) took him to x-ray and told me he thought it might be cancer and recommended exploratory surgery a.s.a.p. They took little Romeo into surgery moments later. They called me just over an hour afterward. Unfortunately, the cancer had gone too far. They told me that if I wanted to, Romeo was still under anesthesia and I could come say goodbye; I was VERY upset, but really appreciated that a lot. Not only were they SO kind that day, but within a couple of days, I was sent a lock of my little Poodle's ear hair on a brightly-colored scrapbook card, with a bow in it like he'd wear after a trip to the groomers. The day after that, I got a card of condolence, signed by all three doctors and the vet tech, and a small scrapbook card with Romeo's pawprint on it. The next week, I got a lovely letter from Mizzou's vet school, saying the practice had made a donation in my dog's name to the school. Wow... all I can say is, WOW. read more

We took our dog here for what we thought was an emergency. We called and got in in less than 15 minutes. NO WAITING when we arrived. It turned out our dog's paws was only bruised from a collision with our daughter. Both are alright now. But the staff and the vet were very friendly and very caring. I have been taking my dogs to this vet since the late 90's. From the moment you walk in you are greeted with compassionate people who love your animals. The desk staff and vet techs are thorough and knowledgeable. The Vets are so wonderful. I've got a dog that has some medical issues that were discovered with the help of Dr. Krofft. He worked with me and directed us to specialists when it became more serious. Now that we're diagnosed, my little guy gets great care here. My other two dogs who didn't have special issues were given no less attention. read more

Elllisville Vet Hospital has been helping us manage our cats' health since 1992. All the doctors, tech/assistants and front desk staff are knowledgeable, empathetic and willing to take extra steps to ensure that their clients are happy and informed. The docs will take the time to make sure we understand treatment options and are very good about calling back if we make a phone call with questions. After a visit, the paperwork they provide at payment is always clearly itemized. They've helped us with the sad task of euthanasia twice and were respectful of our pets' dignity and of our grief, helping us through the process with great kindness. As mentioned in the posting by C.L.P., we also received a sympathy note from the docs and staff as well as a donation notification from the UMC College of Veterinary Medicine's Pet Memorial Program each time. Dr. Krofft, whom we usually see -- and all of the staff, techs and doctors, really -- are always vigilant about follow-up. They phone to check in with us to see how our Louie is doing after any problems that involve a visit to the office. Although the office is on the extremely traffic-heavy Clarkson Road, there is a stoplight there, making for easy entrance and departure. We have taken our dog to Ellisville Veterinary since he was a puppy 13 years ago. Every doctor there is caring, very well informed and experienced. Last week we had to put our wonderful dog down and the doctor met us there after hours to help us. They couldn't have been more understanding and handled Dexter and us with compassion and care. I feel so fortunate to have had a relationship with this clinic and it's wonderful doctors and staff for over 16 years. I just had to have one of my cats put down and they were all so sympathetic and caring during the process. I couldn't have gotten through it without their help and understanding. They even sent me a sympathy card with a note from each of their staff members on it, and Miss Kitty's pawprint. I recently moved to the area, and tried Ellisville Veterinary Hospital because they were given high ratings. The staff is professional, the facility is very clean. However, they charge for services that other vet offices typically do not. They charge a 5 dollar fee to dispose of the syringes they use with your pet. They charge a 26 dollar tech fee just to have blood drawn on top of the cost of the bloodwork, which was also very inflated. Typically veterinary offices will pad either their services (exam fees, dental cleanings, etc) OR the cost of their products (vaccinations, medicines, etc). This place does both. I understand that money needs to be made somehow, however, the amounts that they charge for medical care is unprofessional. I worked in a veterinary office for many years in another city, and this is bad practice. read more

Beware! I called yesterday morning at 8 a.m. and asked for an emergency appointment for my distressed cat. They gave me a time of 1:00. I said I was hoping to get in sooner, she was struggling to breath. She put me on hold, talked to the doctor, and came back and stuck to her 1:00 appointment, then asked me if she needed to be sedated to be seen. I told her that she was hardly combative. The lady was short, not friendly or compassionate, I felt I ruined her whole day, and a very rude near hang up on me, almost like a slam the phone down. I then called Banfield who told me to bring her right away. I lost my fur baby in the car on the way there :-( In my grief, I neglected to call and cancel the 1:00 appointment. When they called me, I explained that she had already passed. She did say she was sorry to hear that, and asked if there was anything they could do to help. I told her it was taken care of, as she passed in the car on the way to Banfield. Again, pretty much hung up on. Back in the spring I took her there to get updated on shots and then a week later to get a grooming. With a shot, the doctor snuck up on her with it and my cat reacted. He admitted he messed up. The cat was never the same...we had suspected something happened while there, maybe at grooming, that she had stroked or had a cardiac event. She was extremely moody and aggressive. I understand that my cat was unique, scared and fearful. But I felt like she was not wanted there. In my opinion, if they don't know how to or want to deal with a unique kitty, or even show compassion during her illness, they shouldn't be in the business. I miss my cat. read more
