Noah is very knowledgeable of different plants and flowers so conversation with him has always been very educational for us amateur gardeners. He has also been very accommodating from the consultation. He listened to our needs and concerns before coming up with a customized plan that fits our property and budget. The project includes a low dry-stack retaining wall, plants that would help stabilizing the soils since we live on a hill, perennial flowers/plants that support each other and blooms at different time, and irrigation etc. The installation was under a short deadline so that we can have our wish of throwing a post-wedding party in our yard. Noah, Cheryl, and Karen moved very efficiently and accomplished the project before the deadline and within budget. The project also includes post-installation maintenance as the first year is crucial for the garden to survive. We are very happy to find Restoring Roots and will definitely consider using them for future projects.

We bought a condo in the Woodburne neigborhood of Jamaica Plain a year ago. There wasn't a lot of space to work with but I was sure that a little patio would fit between the house and the garage. I started contacting landscape design and build firms in March 2015. Most larger firms were already booked for spring, and when a couple of firms came out in June, they indicated that our job was too small for them to consider. Our realtor recommended Restoring Roots. From the first visit Karen was enthusiastic about the possibilities for our little space. She listened to our concerns and needs--one of the biggest concerns being that as new home owners facing a lot of projects, we wanted to consider a design plan that we could implement in stages. Karen came back to us with a detailed and comprehensive plan for our little space. After multiple negotiations with our condo association, we decided to move ahead with the patio construction in the fall and put the planting and construction of a sitting wall on hold until Spring. The bluestone patio was completed right before Thanksgiving. We are very impressed with the quality of the work and we think the patio looks great! We hope to have Restoring Roots back in the Spring for the next phase of the project.

They clearly know their stuff, and it shows in the work. They handled everything--cleanup, planting, edging, some light stonework--and they did it all with care and attention to detail. You can tell they actually take pride in their work. The crew was friendly, respectful of the space, and left everything neat and tidy when they were done. Now the yard looks 100x better. When the contractors rebuilt the back of our house, they put the precast stairs up on a concrete…read morepad that was about two inches higher than the rest of the surrounding yard. This meant that the final step was a much steeper drop off than the rest of the stairs. After futzing around with concrete pavers, we figured out what we wanted, and called Nauak to come and do the work of turning our kitbashed solution into something that would withstand New England winter. At the same time, we also needed to modify and improve the existing railing to make some mobility-impaired folks feel a lot more comfortable on the stairs while still allowing us to get snow off the steps. We wanted a pipe railing with no sharp corners and easy purchase to grab. At the same time, we asked them to put in a shelf next to the stairs for boxes, purses, etc, when going in and out of the door. They did a beautiful job. And once the concrete was set on the railing, they tested it, pronounced it excessively mobile, and came back to redo the anchors. My kids now swing through the space of the railing and it *does* *not* *move*. The shelf has been pronounced, "Brilliant!" by the person most in need of it. The splinters are gone from the original railing. And we will still be able to shovel snow off the steps without banging into the railing in the winter. Nauak does fantastic work, and they have pride in it to make sure they do it *right*. We will be hiring them again.

They were good about staying in touch with us over email during the week we were on vacation, so we knew what was up, which we appreciated a LOT - far too many contractors treat email like it's poisonous and communication like it's an afterthought. They were also nicely flexible when bluestone treads proved scarce (other contractors we'd contacted also had trouble getting firm quotes for them) and we asked about switching to granite in order to minimize delays. They did really good work - the new stairs are solidly built, to the plan we asked for, and look fantastic. The new railings haven't gone in yet (waiting on the company making them), but based on their work so far I have high confidence that they'll do a great job with the installation.

In three days, they extended our existing patio, excavated and put in a crushed rock base for an asphalt driveway, and built a really nice retaining wall that runs the length of the driveway. Fine job! Seven columnar trees, 10-12' tall were planted properly in April, and they look very good…read more(5 arborvitae and 2 cherries.) It was a difficult job, requiring extensive soil tilling and old root grinding beforehand. The preparation was thorough, and the planting process was well executed. Quite impressive. The team was courteous and helpful. Hydrangeas were planted as well, and they have flourished. My only complaint is the quality of the soil used for amendment. It is hard to work with now in adding shrubs and flowers. All in all, the trees look majestic.

We live several flights of stairs above the street, on ledge, with rocky soil. Everything had to be done by hand, including carrying countless barrels of old soil down the stairs and bringing fresh loam back up. Mario and his crew were amazingly friendly and treated all of it as just part of the job. Not one complaint, even when the conditions added several days to the work. I feel bad living so high up off the street and deal with a lot of guilt and grief about it with workers that come to the house. It is a lot easier on us when that is taken out of the equation. At one point, they were working so hard to remove a giant boulder that I came out and told them it wasn't worth the trouble. I honestly think they would have kept at it until they got it out. That says a lot about their commitment. Jeff coordinated perfectly with Fred at Designer Sprinkler Service, who installed our new irrigation system, so everything happened in the right order. The yard is now prepped and seeded, and it already looks so much better. We're excited to see the grass come in and very grateful to the whole crew. Highly recommend.
