1/6/26: Buttery soft hands: Today was her first day at Elm & Serenity, I was lucky enough to be her first client! What a friendly smile and warm spirit. Her name is Ligia (pronounced Leah) and she proceeded to provide maximum relaxation via a deep tissue/Swedish combo massage. Listen, I actually went to sleep and had to be awakened! I was not ready to go! The best way to describe her hands, was like a body facial application! Her hands were buttery soft but woah the pressure was spot on!! It felt like I was floating hence I went to sleep! Towards the end, face up was time spent on my scalp, face and Decollete...who knew I needed that soooo bad! It was heavenly!! Turns out she's a trained esthetician which made sense that she was so smooth with the facial massage. I am so relaxed and legit had to sit for 15 minutes to gather energy to drive home. Got a prenatal massage with Hannah at 37 weeks & it was glorious! I arrived 10-15 min late for my appointment & was taken back right away when I came. Despite being late, the massage was not rushed at all. Before she started, she went over significant pregnancy history & explained how the massage would go & why. It was clear she knew what she was doing & I immediately felt comforted. The massage itself was great & she really focused on the parts I mentioned were causing me discomfort. The table setup was SO comfortable & divine. She had me lay on my side on some pillows & tucked cushions in every nook & cranny around my body & it was the most comfortable I've ever been since I got pregnant! I scheduled a 90 minute massage with Irwyn and it was amazing. I like deep tissue massage and he did a great job. He even found knots I didn't know I had!! Before the massage he took the time to go through my intake form and ask me what I wanted to focus on. I highly recommend Elm & Serenity. Both Irís and Irwyn are fantastic massage therapists. My husband gifted me a prenatal massage and I finally cashed it in today at 38 weeks. Pregnant ladies -- you are in good hands with Iris! She was so meticulous reviewing my new client information and even did some research on a complication I have to ensure having the massage on my stomach was safe. LOVE Iris and her team! Been going here for years and it's amazing every.single.time! They take COVID very seriously - prioritizing safety and comfort so you can easily relax and enjoy your massage. Recently, I had a 90min deep tissue massage with Hannah and was very impressed with her technique. I usually prefer male massage therapists (other than Iris!) as I find they provide better firmness for my muscles but I was pleasantly surprised with Hannah! Recently, I had a surgery and in need of a massage. Sitting around healing for weeks is not great for the muscles. I was a bit nervous because of COVID but was reassured by their cleaning practices. I strategically booked my Swedish massage at Elm & Serenity - a baby shower gift from my wonderful co-workers - a few days before I was due to return to work from maternity leave. A very smart move. Iris expertly stretched and worked every muscle in my body, which was sore from lifting and carrying 13 lbs of baby every day. Beginning with my back and neck, she made her way down my legs and feet, untangling every knot and kink along the way, and coming back up to my arms and head. Kneading and smoothing along the way, no muscle was left untouched. I also appreciated her use of hot and cold packs, and towels throughout. Iris herself is a pro in every sense of the word. She immediately gives the reassurance of someone who knows her craft. She is also particular about dedicating time to the problem areas you point out to her. Iris is awesome. Highlights: she gave me an amazing massage at 38 weeks pregnant, used bolsters that relieved the weight of my belly, and gave me another massage the day before I was induced at 39 weeks pregnant. So relaxing - the next day after only three hours of active labor I pushed my little guy out in less than 20 minutes. Huge difference with my mental state going into that. I first came here for a prenatal massage after asking my midwife for recommendations. My pregnancy had included a lot of back, hip, nerve and muscle pain and it was getting to a point of just trying not to move to keep pain at bearable levels. I had a pregnancy massage elsewhere before, but it hurt and was uncomfortable sliding around a table with bed pillows while lying on my side. Iris is specially trained in pregnancy massage and it showed in both her approach and her tools (firm bolsters perfectly adjusted to support your body and belly). She was equally helpful in her post-natal massages that I had a week or two after giving birth. For all those pregnant ladies struggling with pain, if I had it to do again I'd have seen Iris SO MUCH SOONER. A chiropractor would also be something I'd have added into the mix sooner. I scheduled a prenatal massage at 39 weeks and it was JUST what the doctor ordered (seriously; my midwives at GW strongly recommended acupuncture/acupressure at this stage of pregnancy). If you're pregnant and considering prenatal massage . . . do it!!! I appreciated how much time (in addition to massage time) Iris took to go over my intake form as a new client, talk through pregnancy aches, areas of concern, what she'd be doing during the massage and why, etc. After talking, we decided I'd get her 'induction' prenatal massage instead of a regular prenatal massage as it includes more acupressure and pelvic floor attention intended to really help the body prepare for labor. Her table/pillow/bolster set-up for pregnant clients is awesome and she was so attentive to supporting everything -- that alone made me the most comfortable I've been in 9 months! I was able to book her that same morning! I filled out a detailed questionnaire, and we spoke about the type of goals I had for my massage. I'm 6 months pregnant and needed to work out some back pain and muscle soreness from sleeping on my side. She went to work positioning me on some pillows to alleviate stress on my joints, and then proceeded to give me a wonderful prenatal massage! I followed Iris from Red Door and I couldn't be more pleased with her services! I actually saw her on her last day at Red Door, thank god, and explained to her about these seemingly permanent knots I had in my shoulder for YEARS. She quickly went to work on them. Somehow she manages to effectively release knots without that intense pain that some deep tissue massages result in. And I can say that after only 2 sessions with her, these chronic knots that I have had in my scapula for over 5 years ARE GONE. Her fingers are miracle workers. Additionally, I really like how she combines traditional massage techniques with that of eastern methods, such as reflexology, reiki and even giving a great scalp and face massage. Her studio is conveniently located in an office park outside of Tysons and considering she is a master level therapist, her rates are quite reasonable for an hour or 90 minute session. On a whim my husband and I decided to treat ourselves to massages. We stumbled upon Elm and Serenity after reading wonderful reviews of Iris here on Yelp. The location is a bit unassuming, it is a little off the main road in a sort of small business community. Although we were there on a weekend, when most of the other businesses were closed, it doesn't seem like parking would ever be an issue. When we arrived Iris was in in the middle of a message so we had a seat on the couch and waited for the door to open. About 5 mins later Iris came out to let us know she was finishing up with her previous client and would be ready for us soon, she asked us to fill out a standard health questionnaire, and also offered us tea and water. The client before us walked and whispered, "you're going to love her" and noted that she woke up with a pain in her neck, and just had to come see Iris that day. She was cheery and laid back. I hoped this would be me. I had the 90 min Swedish, Iris briefly reviewed by health questionnaire and asked if I had any concerns, or areas I'd like her to focus on. She also took time to tell me exactly what she was going to do, what types of methods she would used , and what to expect in general. I really appreciated that she not only wanted to make sure I was comfortable, but that she seemed not only knowledgeable, but passionate about giving me a relaxing experience. The massage: I thoroughly enjoyed my massage, between the warm stones and aromatherapy mask , and gentle stretches, I fell into a gentle state of relaxation. I hold onto my tension is my back, and Iris did a great job, focusing on the muscles there, to release the strain. When I walked out I felt like I had a taken a nice long, rejuvenating nap. Pre visit: Scheduled my appointment via the website and it was very easy to use. Once I submitted my appointment request, I received a confirmation email instantly. Massage Day: Iris works miracles! I showed up for my appointment and explained my concerns regarding my back pain (muscle spasm put me out of commission). She customized my massage and concentrated on my lower back and it helped! I went back a week later for a "follow-up" massage and that time she did a full body massage and it helped almost eliminate my back pain/tightness. I followed her suggestion regarding stretching exercises for my back and it worked with the tightness I had. Overall: I'd go back in a heartbeat. Had my first massage today and the service here is outstanding! I chose it partly because of the great reviews, and partly because of their Covid precautions as listed on their website. I accidentally arrived 30 min early for my massage and they were able to accommodate me 20 min early! I then had a great massage with Irwyn, who made sure to concentrate on my neck/back specifically as I asked for, and remembered to change pressure to different areas according to what we had discussed before the massage. Afterwards he gave me recommendations for exercises I could do to help prevent and treat my tightness between massages. After I left I had to run some errands and remembered I hadn't put my jewelry back on, at which point I realized I had lost my engagement ring somewhere! I was, as you can imagine, absolutely **panicked**. I re-walked all the steps at the store I had gone to, and then called the massage studio. SO thankfully they had found the ring and I was able to come back immediately to pick it up! I am so beyond thankful for their honesty. They could easily have said they didn't have it, and pawned it for a good amount of money in what I know is a difficult time for many of us in this Covid era, but instead they were honest and got it back to me. I've had many massages. Most were really good but Iris at Elm & Serenity is great! She should be doing exactly what she is doing. She includes aromatherapy, warm wraps and ample oil with no extra charges. I felt magnificent within two minutes of her massage. I got a massage from Iris and it was great. I had some stiffness in my shoulder joint from Rheumatoid Arthritis and didn't have full range of motion. The right side of my neck was tight as well and she was able to work all the knots out and at the same time provide a relaxing therapeutic massage. She helped me obtain ROM in my shoulder. I'd have to say my favorite part was the work she did on my face and jaw, which was the final part of really helping to release my neck. Her studio is super cute, relaxing and clean. She uses hot towels and neck pillows, and aromatherapy in her massage. Also she has healthy snacks and tea for after the massage.
