First off, if you are looking for a relaxing massage, you need to indicate this from the beginning when you schedule. This place offers an array of options. Traditional Thai massages are notorious for helping things flow better and for healing. They are not always swedish massage relaxing per say. I find them more therapeutic and medicinal. This place knows their stuff. They offer focused techniques. I went in with horrible sinus pain and pressure and she helped me. I slept for the first time in days and woke up feeling better. Hands down the best massage in the DMV. Thippiwan, Orawan, and Naphawan are all extraordinary at their craft. I saw a one star review because the "pressure was too much" and the "cupping left me sore." This person must be new to getting therapeutic massages. They all tailor your experience based on your feedback. If you're a person that likes less pressure, just say so! I think of this place as physical therapy more so than just a massage. I was really hopeful that this massage was going to be good. My masseuse was nice and made sure to ask questions that would help. This was not relaxing. I was hoping that I would get the service that I requested which was a deep tissue massage and that is not exactly what I got. She talked through the entire one hour appointment and asked me questions. She did say she would do a little bit of cupping if it was needed at the beginning of my session but my whole entire back is now is sore and tight. When she worked on my lower back I was uncomfortable and in pain and when she noticed I wasn't enjoying it she told me to breathe and did not stop or use lighter pressure. Additionally, other times I have gotten a massage my masseuse was very respectful of my body and always told me what they were going to do before they did it. She sat on the table multiple times without warning me. Stretched my legs in a way that did not keep me covered. Lastly, she ended the service with having me sit on the end of the table and her putting HER FEET ON MY BACK and pulling my arms behind me. She did not tell me she was going to sit on the table and put her feet on me. This was not relaxing. The next day my back is in pain from the cupping and the intense pressure she applied to my lower back. I cannot speak for the business as a whole but my masseuse did not provide the experience I was looking for. read more

My review is only for a 60min Cupping Therapy. Unfortunately, cupping was not beneficial for me as it did not provide relief or relaxation afterwards. That's a personal experience. However, I'm leaving 3-stars because at the end of my visit I felt extremely uncomfortable. While paying $80 for the 60-min visit, I was asked to provide a tip. Cupping doesn't involve any human service/effort except coming in the room every 20 min to place the hot cups on the back. Cupping is similar to getting a medical service. After scouring the yelpnet to find a place that does prenatal massage with good ratings, I finally booked an appointment with Thai Wellness Center. Making the appt was easy with a phone call (left a message and somebody called me back a couple hours later). I've been experiencing a bit of upper body pain due to change in position of sleep due to being pregnant and needed to get all the kinks out of shoulder and arm asap. Naphawan greeted me and asked me where my issue was and started to work on those sore spots right away. I found out that she is the actually the owner of this place. She shared with me how she got into massage therapy after retiring from being a nurse and said that since she is always in, and makes it a point to accommodate clients with the schedule they want when they call. In fact, she realized we were chit chatting for half the time that she said, "no more talking, I want you get a peaceful massage!" Hahaha. After the 60 min massage, my body felt better and less achy! First time clients receive 10% off and they also offer bundle packages which I will be planning to get when I book my next appointment since I don't think my aching woes will not get any better as this pregnancy progresses but at least I found a place for soreness relief! read more

I finally found the perfect massage place! my favorite massage therapist is Lily. She always find my sore spots and does her best to get my knots out. I can't describe my experiences with her enough, she really works her magic every time, I feel so much better. I like somewhat medium/hard pressure so she does exactly that. the day after my massage, my whole body is sore, but the 2nd day, I feel like I have a new body. I have been going to Thai Wellness center for a while now (around 6-7 sessions). I come to DC for business and an hour and a half massage is always a must for me on Mondays. I work at the office a lot, travel a lot and work out a lot. As a result I often used to have aches and continuous pain across my body especially lower back, however it got so much better after I met Lilly and she developed a program for me where she has been working through my body and helping my really tight muscles to relax one by one. After every session I come out like new man, and my performance in the gym is improving as range of motion and flexibility also improves. My day to day is also much better as I stopped having lower back pains in the morning even after a deadlift day (used to not able to put my socks on without pain.) I highly recommend the Thai Wellness center and Lilly as she always gives her 110% and works very hard. There hasn't been a time when she didn't give me some extra time just to finish what we started. I am amazed by her dedication and professionalism! I have had two very effective massages at Thai Wellness Center with Dao. Dao works skillfully and with great pressure to conscientiously address my significant muscle tension. Over time, I have developed deep muscle tension due to overuse at my job. Because I have lumbar scoliosis, my muscle tension and imbalances are pervasive. I've been visiting Thai Wellness for about 3 times now, and I can't be happier. No other massage centers could address my TMJ (tempromandibular joint disorder) and sleep apnea issues except here. Wan (owner) was able to massage all the tiny muscles around my upper shoulders, neck, and jaw - even areas that I'd never looked into before. For two weeks, no snoring and I could breathe so much easier. They really cater the session to what you really need. For a 60-minute session, Wan focused on the areas that really needed attention. Forget deep tissue, this is deep BONE. Thai massage is about stretching your bones and pulling your muscles apart - almost literally. Although the process can be painful at times, it's well worth it in the end. Expect to be sore the next day if this is your first time. That being said, do communicate when you're feeling any sort of discomfort beyond what's normal. Feeling sore and a bit of a pain when they're doing a deep-bone massage is normal. But if you're feeling any sort of stinging or pain that you can't handle, speak up. Also, make sure to let them know if you have any health problems. Although, this is pretty much covered in the initial consultation. You will have to be fully clothed during the sessions. Sometimes they do offer a change of clothes, traditional t-shirt and cotton pants. Sometimes they don't. Do come dressed in light, comfortable clothing (or pack some). Remember to drink lots of water after a massage. Seriously, don't get dehydrated! Get ready to be sore the next day, but also be ready to be feeling like a thousand bucks the day after. I had a Groupon for this place, for a 90-minute Thai massage. The location was easy enough to find, and clean. The staff were polite. I don't know the name of the woman who was my masseuse, but she was perfectly nice. However, I was a little bothered by the fact that she kept trying to make conversation after the massage had started. She asked me where I live, where I used to live, where I work, what is work like, etc. Honestly, when I go for a massage, I don't want to talk about anything, let alone work. Work is one of the reasons I go for a massage-- for stress relief! I think she got the hint when I didn't elaborate much on any answer. Also, I'm surprised I haven't seen comments in other reviews about the fact that clients are asked to stay fully clothed for the massage. This is the only massage center I have ever been to where I was asked to stay clothed. I was wearing sweatpants and a t-shirt and got hot very quickly. It was also uncomfortable, somewhat significantly at times, to feel my shirt chafing and rubbing against my skin. In my opinion, a massage should be done on bare skin, with oils or lotions if needed. Additionally, because the mattress is not raised off the floor and the pillow is directly on the floor, I often felt like I was suffocating when I was face-down. The masseuse tried to raise the pillow a bit by putting some towels underneath it, but it didn't help much. Other than those issues, the massage itself was good. The pressure felt like too much at times, but the masseuse was receptive when I asked her not to apply so much pressure in certain places. I felt sore for most of the massage, but I expected that; it's a good kind of sore. When I was finished, I asked the staff member at the front desk how I could leave a tip, since I didn't have cash. I asked if I could do a check, debit card, or credit card, and he said any method is fine. I probably won't return. Mostly because of the clothing issue. I felt uncomfortable during most of the massage, which defeats the purpose of getting a massage. read more

I have been going to Thai Wellness Center for many years - and have had massages ranging from "relaxing/soft" to medical/athletic - all have been excellent. For the past two years I have been working to recover from a less than outstanding outcome from double knee replacement. Thippiwan has primarily worked with me through this period. She is attentive, diligent and focused on helping me to ease the discomfort of rebelling muscles and work towards the best possible mobility and flexibility to support movement back to my athletic desires. She has studied and worked to identify areas/modes of addressing my discomfort. That being said - I have not been in the "relaxing" mode....sometimes is quite uncomfortable as she uses pressure, cupping and stretching to make progress. This is what I would call an excellent therapeutic massage. If you want a "relaxing" massage - let the therapist know - they can do it at an outstanding level....If you want someone to address your physical needs - let them know - they will do all they can to help you evolve into your best possible self! read more

I've been going to Thai Wellness Center for a long time and I really love it here because it reminds me of the weeks I spent in Thailand over the course of my life and because the massages are so good! All the providers are awesome and it is a true high end Thai Massage experience. 2nd review. It's Feb 2018 and I still go to here once and a while. My back is doing so much better that i have less of a nees to go. Tbat is the whole point of therapy. They get you back to where you need to be I have changed jobs, so I sit at a desk all day -although that maybe not much better than standing all day. The deep tissue massage and yoga stretches really do help put your body back in alignment. When things stop hurting on a regular basis, that is a good thing. When I first came to see the massage therapist, I could hardly bend over and touch my toes. Everything cracked and it was a little painful (good deep tissue massage) to have my muscles worked on. Fast forward to the present. Now, I'm able to exercise 4 days a week as I'm in training to run a half marathon. As someone in their 30s, my advice is to take the time heal your body now -not later. read more

I've been seeing Naphawan every 1-2 months for several years and she is the best massage therapist I've ever seen, hands down. She was a nurse before becoming a massage therapist, and it shows with her innate knowledge of the body and muscle structure. I have arthritis and regular visits to her, keep me functioning. During COVID, the office has has safety protocols in place (all wear masks, including patients during treatment) and I feel very safe. I recently tried the Thai herbal bundle with my massage and the hot moist heat and herbs, combined with some deep stretching, were exactly what my body needed. Honestly, this place is fantastic. The staff that I encountered were very pleasant. I got a groupon for a couples Thai massage, called and got an appointment relatively easily and quickly. Had a great conversation with the lady on the phone too. I've had a Thai massage before, so my expectations were very high. They fixed me. My shoulders are what I would describe as crunchy, in that the muscles around my scapula get very tight. Most massage places try to separate my shoulders from the rest of my body which solves the problem temporarily. The therapist I had here put me through a bunch of stretches and maneuvers that have taken the tightness out of my shoulders for going on 2 weeks now. And when I asked about wearing your own clothes, they said you could if you wanted to or you could use their clothes (thai fisherman pants and loose shirt). An excellent no frills Thai massage. I bought a Groupon for a 60-minute Thai massage. I called to make an appointment and I was a bit surprised but very please that they could schedule me for the next day. Usually it takes me at least two weeks in advance to schedule something. Bee was my massage therapist and he was very professional and experienced. He checked to make sure I didn't have any accidents/injuries before so that he would know to avoid certain pulls. He was very patient and explained to me the different problem areas I have and showed me how he was going to improve them. He also shared some stretches I could do at home to improve my problem areas. He told me to come back two more times so that he could focus on fixing my problem areas since one visit was not enough to improve my problem areas. He even told me about Spa Week which was 50% off any massage for two weeks! I finished my third massage yesterday and I felt my body completely rejuvenated. I am going to go back once a month to prevent my problem areas getting worse again. One suggestion I have about the website is the "Click Here to Make an Appointment" link. When I click on that, I was expecting a way to make an appointment online; however, it took me to like a "contact us" or "about us" page. I submitted to the "Information request" before but I never got a reply. I didn't try to look for it in my spam folder though. I called to make the appointment and that was very easy and smooth. I guess they could rename the link to "Click to see how to make an appointment" or "Appointment Information" or something along the line. read more

I visited the Thai Wellness center today. I had no trouble getting an appointment with my wife within an hour of calling. I was very pleased with the service from scheduling to massage. I had a Thai massage from Tuan. I've been experiencing sharp pains and stiffness ranging from my jaw/neck to shoulders/shoulder blades. I have a very stiff upper back so at times the procedure was painful, but good painful. Dozens of nots/areas of stress/tightness were addressed and am feeling better. Dao (Sirinapha Goering) is an excellent massage therapist. I arrived at Thai Wellness Center having built up knots, tension and pain that stretched from my neck to my lower back area overtime. I also had very tight hamstrings, quads and calves. She did a great job in systemically working through all of that providing great relief from my pain. Her professional skills and techniques also initiated a restorative process that I continued at home with a renewed capacity to exercise and stretch regularly.
