I should have just went with my gut and walked out when I saw the tattooist. He looked jacked up on something and did a really shitty job. I asked if I could have the number 60 instead of 13. But like a dumbass I went ahead and did the tattoo at Elm St. Right after getting it I immediately saw it was not a good tattoo. Blurred lines right from the beginning. He went outside the line. Tattoo artist are friendly and do quality work. It's a cash only establishment and there ATM charges $3 fee and now random credit card charges are showing up on my account from that ATM. I was originally told $60 for arm or leg tattoo and decided on ankle which increased the price to $120. I could only pull out $20's from the ATM and my artist didn't have change. Randomly decided to get tattoos. Dope shop that takes walk ins. It took me and my friends (mainly my friends lol) 2 hrs to decide what to get aha. The staff was patient, answered our millions of questions. My friends decided on words, in our handwriting to make it sentimental & I got a lady bug. Bad attitude which I can actually understand, they were busy and probably just tired. But they won't fix bad work. I got a tat with my daughter and mine turned out with a flat part on the top of my heart and the color faded in several spots. I called to see if they guarantee their work and I was told only of that person was still working there and I knew they name. It had only been 2 months and they require a release form and ID so why can't they look it up??? Don't recommend. Came in for a super simple crescent moon and thought there was no way anyone could mess up something so simple... obviously I was wrong. The line work was absolutely terrible, the curves are uneven.... Just really awful overall. As other reviews have mentioned, customer service is nonexistent. They try to get as many people as possible. I don't recall the name of the female at the front desk but she was very straight forward not beating around the bush. I liked that. First of all, I will start by saying that I have only had great experiences at this shop, and all the work I've had done is the best of the best. This is a tattoo SHOP. If you want to wait 6 months on a waitlist to go to a tattoo STUDIO then be my guest. I have had work done at tattoo shops and tattoo studios, and the vibes are very different. Elm Street Tattoo, in my opinion, has a great overall vibe. The artwork/flash on the wall is amazing and I love the retro/old school vibe that it has. When you walk in it may be a bit overwhelming, but I have found everyone in the shop to be incredibly welcoming, from Boogie at the shop desk to Oliver who owns the place. As far as the quality of work goes, I have had 4 big pieces done on my leg by Oliver and they are all incredible, I couldn't be happier. My girlfriend also has 5 pieces done by Oliver and her work is equally amazing. During all of her appointments I have shot the shit with the artists at the shop, and all the work that I've seen them produce is top notch as well. I also have not seen anybody leave the shop unhappy with the work, or customer service they've received. The shop definitely has a family feel to it, and everyone that works there (from what I have experienced) treats their clients with respect and cares about the work they are putting out. One of my best friends also decided to get a tattoo spur of the moment during one of my appointments and his tattoo came out great as well. David Steed was his artist, and it was my buddies first tattoo, and he couldn't be happier. Fair price, and he is a super nice dude! From a ladies perspective, my girlfriend absolutely loves going to get work done at Elm Street. Again, she was a little intimidated at first (as most are when they walk into a tattoo shop their first time), but all of the artists and staff have treated her respectfully. She constantly chats with Oliver and the other artists, and she has enjoyed every experience she's had there. We both feel like we are becoming part of the family. For people that are looking to get your first tattoo, I think Elm Street tattoo is an incredible place to go. When I look at places to get tattooed the first thing I do is look at who owns the shop/studio. Oliver Peck is an award winning tattoo artist who puts out extremely high quality work, and he is not going to hire artists into his shop that don't do the same. Don't go in as a walk in. I ended up getting a cover up for the mess they did on my shoulder. It was supposed to be bats and a moon. The moon ends didn't meet to make a full circle, the bats looked like flying stingrays, and the artist added shading I never approved when shown the stencil. read more

This shop was a bucket list item for me. Ever since I learned of its existence I've wanted to get a tattoo from here. It definitely did not disappoint. This shop is basically the all star team of tattoo shops. Even though the owner tattoos here and is famous, the atmosphere is very laid back and friendly. Everyone really seems to enjoy their work and has a great time. You can't go wrong with any artist in the shop, it's pretty much impossible to come here and leave with a bad tattoo. It does get a little busy, but I had no issues getting a spot. The prices are in line with other quality shops, there isn't a big up charge for the celebrity status. Not a great experience with the artists or their work. They have a $100 minimum for their tattoos no matter what size or design which immediately threw me off but I still went ahead and paid it since my sister and I were looking for a fun memorable night. Mine turned out somewhat decent, but my sisters had crooked lines and overall the tattoos were extremely below average. Let me be clear that these tattoos were VERY simple, it took 10 minuets for them to do. So I'm pretty disappointed about the quality of the work for a extremely simple design. I can't imagine trusting these artists to do anything remotely complex if they can't draw a straight line. Their vibes from the start weren't good at all despite us being really kind and I'm sure they deal with a lot being in deep ellum, but everyone in the shop seemed very stand offish and pissed to be there. For sure won't be coming back here, super bummed out by the quality of work and the vibes at this place. Front staff was nice, quick to help and really attentive to all coming in the door appointment and walk in alike. Allow me to share an honest review about my experience with Elm Street Tattoo: Cons: * Very blunt and rude receptionist. It was my first time in the shop and I did not feel welcomed. If you encounter her bad attitude, give her a snarky response back for me. Then take your business elsewhere. * Though I got a pretty basic and small tattoo, it is slightly crooked. It is less crooked than when the artist originally placed the drawing on my skin, though. I was too distracted by their multitude of questions to notice until it was done. * Had to use the ATM in their shop to pay with cash. Their website clearly stated that debit/credit cards were accepted, but they failed to mention that it was up to the discretion of the artist. If you choose to go, bring some cash. Just in case. * Tattoo artist (almost) released me without providing me any aftercare instructions, knowing it was my first tattoo. Felt a bit careless if you asked me. Pros: * My tattoo artist was a guest artist from a different state. They were kind in conversation and was quick on doing my tiny tattoo. However, this also means I can't comment on the other artists. * Charged me their lowest price (their starting price) for the tattoo. Didn't add any of these "additional" things for whatever nonsense they can find...unlike some tattoo shops. So, thanks. * They provide an ATM machine for when cash is needed. * I was in and out of that shop in under 30 minutes. Ultimately, I wouldn't recommend this place. If I were to get another one, it wouldn't be here. The most important thing about finding a tattoo shop is: * find a reputable place, one that also can meet your needs. If you don't enjoy being talked down upon, definitely don't come here. * visit the places your friends/family visited when they got their tattoos, and ask for their recommendations. Tattoos are permanent, so your experience should be a great one! * do not feel obligated to stay in a tattoo shop if the receptionist or artists are rude, unkind, don't listen to your wants and or needs. I felt compelled to write this review after seeing negative reviews that struck me as incredibly inaccurate/potentially outright slanderous lies. 1. I have tested NEGATIVE for covid. After being tattooed here repeatedly. They are following protocols related to the pandemic and just general cleanliness because also NONE of my tattoos from here have been infected or given me any cause for concern. 2. If you are getting an incredibly important piece of artwork permanently inked on your body and YOU do not do your research or even remember your artists FIRST AND LAST NAME, I think that is on you. Multiple (6) wonderful experiences here. This is where I got my first larger tattoo done by Oliver. I love IT, as well as the 5 others he has done for me. The shop has a very cool vintage/retro vibe that I believe they have just recently redone. I had questions about how my tattoos were healing; Oliver answered them. I had questions about tattoo aftercare; Oliver answered them. Delightfully so. I enjoy the time that I get chatting him up, and he has never been anything but a phenomenal human being in my presence. And maybe most importantly, he gives a kickass tattoo. Obviously. Every. Single. Employee that I have interacted with there has been polite, kind, engaging, and very easy to talk to. Some badass WOMEN work at this shop. It is, of course, a bit intimidating when you first walk in (I am a reasonably basic white girl with very few tattoos). But the artists say hello as soon as you walk in, jib jab with each other, and play good music. There are wall to wall tattoos, and in those large binders that hang on the wall, again full of tattoos. The staff is very attentive, super friendly and they get along great with one another. My best friend and I were really looking forward to getting matching tattoos while out on a Friday night. So I decided to call the shop and asked for a quote for a small finger/hand tattoo, and I was quoted $100. Expensive, but understandable (we both have several tattoos and know shops typically have a $100 minimum). So we decide to come into the shop with the full intention of getting these hand tattoos. Upon entering the shop, the available associate greets us and asks what we're looking to get, so we show him the (very tiny) image and he then proceeds to quote us $160-$200. I explain we were quoted $100 for something this small (bait and switch tactics much?) and he obnoxiously said "well you can go somewhere else and get something that won't be as good for less". He also claimed "for this amount of work" $160 is a reasonable price and he couldn't work with our budget of $100 (lol ok). Let me remind you we both have tattoos that are quite sizable and we're both from Los Angeles/San Francisco, so we're no stranger to being overcharged. $160 for a small hand tattoo is a rate a very highly-booked in advance artist would charge, not some random artist we walked in on a Friday night to see. Eventually, we decided the quote was ridiculous, so as we were getting ready to leave, the associate who was "helping" us walked out to smoke a cigarette and on the way out, he blurted out this "$160-180" quote to several patrons by the door. What this tells me is that they love to take advantage of the fact that their location is by all the bars and they don't actually give a shit about what you want to get done, just interested in overcharging you for it. For me, that's whack and I would never give a single dime to an establishment that supposedly promotes art, but so obviously chooses to cheat customers for profit. Please, all first-timers, please understand this shop is overcharging you. Don't fall for their spiel about "quality work". Take a quick Uber to DEATH OR GLORY TATTOO, and you'll receive quality work, great customer service, and reasonable quotes (go see Matt-he is awesome!!) *Refer to my image below to see the small hand tattoo idea this ridiculous shop was trying to charge me damn near $200 for. read more

Alright. This one has been a LONG time coming, and it's a bit of a funky one, seeing as how I actually paid to remove the tattoo. Yeah...you read right. Hang on kiddies. I was a pretty abnormal teen in my neck of the woods. I didn't smoke Marlboro Reds like the hardcore chicks back home, didn't eat watermelon laced with everclear (keep telling yourself no adult can smell or taste it you dumb sh*ts) nor did I engage in knocking da boots with dudes named Bubba, on the football team or pretty much any dude. When you come from a small town, you quickly realize the possibility of that guy being your cousin triples and is a mood killer, so location was my own version of "True Love Waits" if you will. I was focused on graduating early and getting into a top tier college. I had no time for funny business. That definitely included ink. I pretty much looked at tattoos like almost anyone else with a closed mind does: I thought tattoos were trashy and I didn't see why others wanted them. At 25 my best friend and I celebrated me getting married by doing THE WORST THING EVER IN THE UNOFFICIAL TAT HANDBOOK: I got mind numbingly drunk, to the point where I can't even tell you guys if I picked the place of the tat, the shape, any of it...and I got my now ex-husband's name TRAMP STAMPED on a freaking BUTTERFLY on my lower back. Yeah, those laws saying you can't get tatted while drunk only work if the artist cares and he was doing shots with us in the shop (not Elm Street) and that's honestly all I remember. I did shots with the artist, who was an acquaintance of ours, and the next day I woke up to pure horror. I loved my husband, but not "put your name above my butthole" love. That's reserved for bacon and Rue Mclanahan. I tell you all that so that you understand how hard it was for me to ever walk into another shop. I didn't do it lightly. During my divorce from not Rue/Bacon, two things happened simultaneously: I had our daughter and I was diagnosed with cancer. When I finally (thank God) went into remission, I wanted a drastic reminder. Olly gave me that. In Latin two words on my left forearm are still present. Amor Fati. It translates to "Love Your Fate." I didn't choose my path, but I've learned that it's the only one I'd ever want to go down. A few years back I met someone who had a huge problem with tattoos, just like I did so long ago. He requested I remove them, so I paid a horrid company (look it up in my reviews) and it was kind of a blessing. They were so bad at removal that it never took. I realized how wrong I had been. (I ended that relationship too and started one with Rico's cheese sauce.)Tattoos aren't trashy; the person is. Tattoos are art and are a reflection of whatever that person is wanting to express at that time. I love hearing stories about people's tats and what they mean. I even like the horrible ones because I think those add character. Even the bad butterfly tramp stamps. God. I really need to marry another Ray to make that thing work. Oliver did my arm piece. It was the second tattoo I had ever had done in my life and he treated my arm like an artist treats an expensive canvas. He didn't rush even though it was just a simple black and white lettering job. He didn't sit and chat with the guys. All eyes were on that arm, that piece, that moment. Oliver Peck didn't know me and I didn't know him and neither of us cared. In that moment we made art. I've actually visited this shop more then once. I have been tattooed there 5 times. I started visiting solely to be tattooed by Oliver Peck due to being a Super Fan of Ink Master. Everything visit I have walked away with a excellent tattoo that Im proud to show off. I love the professional yet divey surroundings. I've been canvas to the tattoo machine of three artists. They didn't want to even draw out a design, only asked for google images. I found one image and the artist still wouldn't draw it out or add any unique touch to it. He only wanted to discuss the payment ($250 )and for me to fill out paperwork. I called my husband and the artist told me to end my call. I said, your customer service is not good and I am leaving , as I was leaving this fellow yells"have a nice night". The design had to be situated just right and he helped me decide what looked and worked best. I was concerned about tattooing ontop of the ankle bone but he assured me it would be doable. I got my first tattoo here, my experience was okay but there are a few things that I'm going to mention. No one in there was wearing a mask. With the new strain of virus going around I don't feel that that's safe! My tattoo artist (not sure of his name, he had glasses, that's all I can describe him with) was rude to me multiple times. He scolded me and he wouldn't let me FaceTime my boyfriend for moral support because it's "rude". He also looked visibly annoyed and rolled his eyes when I said that I wanted the stencil to be more evenly drawn. The place is definitely overpriced. I got a small tattoo and it was $120. They refused to make my tattoo as small as I originally wanted, they said they "wouldn't do it". Overall, I'm not sure if I would recommend this place. I just got the best tattoo ever! Jason is an amazing artist. He put effort and talent into the design. I walked in knowing what I wanted and that I needed it to be classy. He took his time and made sure to check in with me to ensure he was going in the right direction. He also eased my fears of tattooing in the ditch. I could not have asked for a better man to help me live my anthem through art that I will carry with me forever!
