All of my girls seem like her. My youngest says she's a little heavy handed, and her head is sore afterwards, but she says she can tolerate her better than the last person. At first lola was located in a smaller suite in the back of the complex. But her current space is up front. Her prices are reasonable, and I appreciated that she sold products in her suite. It keeps me from having to run to the store. She also sales chips and cold drinks in her salon which was nice one day because we were there for a while. Since it is a suite salon, I like that she doesn't Overbook and it's just us in the salon, vs a lot of chatty adult conversation.

We started on the wrong foot, and ended on a despicable note. Paulette took a look at my 3c curly hair and insisted that it could not loc up with the coils I wanted. The other loctitian in the room objected to what she said, but Paulette shushed her. I felt this was wrong because armed with knowledge about safe washing, I felt my hair would remain in coils and lock up. I showed her a photo of my thick curly hair grown mid back. She proceeded to sell me on the idea that the only way my hair would lock was with her $400-$500 loc extensions that I stayed for 8 hours to put in. She wanted me to drive out for regular retwists for upkeep. At the end of this service she asked about my ethnicity. When I told her I was Jamaican and black she seemed shocked, and I wondered if her assumption that I was mixed perpetuated her incorrect assumption that my hair wouldn't lock. I lived about an hour away at this time, and could mostly only make it during rush hour, which meant I could not drive for regular retwists. This she knew ahead of time. It was also not not my desire to. I've cared for my own hair since age 8. At the time of this experience I was 24. I know my hair. I retwisted my hair myself between appointments. The extensions were quick to slip during the day even though I left them untouched except when twisting my roots. I came back a few times to fix the slipped locs. When I came back for a retwist, I asked her to keep retwisting my hair in the direction I previously had begun. You would've thought I said I hurt somebody. In the middle of a busy salon room, she stopped, and proceeded to literally loudly berate me in front of customers (she was .incredibly. rude) about doing my own hair. I was shocked at her behavior. The person next to me getting her hair done even looked at Paulette and said something about Paulette having to "teach me right." Excuse me? When I got home I proceeded to remove every extension she put into my hair. And I started over-- my way. Here are photos of the 5 year locs that couldn't establish without her $400-$500 extensions. 5 years in, they are almost touching my butt. I haven't lost a single one. If Paulette treats her customers anywhere near how she did in the past, I hope this review highlights a necessary area of where retraining is needed. You don't treat people like that, and you don't know the hair and head of somebody you met 3 times better than they do. They've had their hair their whole life.
