Fun spot for the kids right outside of Eagle River. Whenever we visit, the kids always want to go Go-Karting. Go-karting is $8pp/ride and they have two tracks. Bring cash - and expect your change in $1 coins. They also have a stable, playground, mini golf, and arcade.

My whole family(on my wife's side)vacations in Saint Germain every year. For those of you who have vacationed in this area, you know that the town doesn't offer much in the way of activities. But then again, most people aren't coming to Saint Germain so they can visit the mall. People come to this town so that they can get away from everything. One of the few family activities available is Elmer's. It offers three pretty awesome go-kart courses that are well maintained, with lots of hills; a fun yet challenging mini golf course, trail riding, bumper boats and an ice cream shop. Everyone in my family had a great time! My only complaint is with the older, white haired woman that was working the ice cream counter. She was just very unfriendly, and it was kind of a bummer after such a nice day. I would definitely visit here again, but would hope her attitude had improved a bit.

I will start out by saying that I take custard and mini golf very seriously…read more I'm sure that most of you reading this want to know if this place is good or not; so I won't waste your time with idle musings. Musings about how kind hearted and beautiful the staff is, or how tasty there cheesy pretzels are, or how the grass is kept in pristine condition. Instead I want to focus on how impressive the whole experience was. I hope and pray that this almost mythological haven of joy and happiness will be a beacon of hope for years and generations to come. Like when the great Hercules had to overcome the obstacles of Hera (his beautiful but spiteful step-mother), so I too had to conquer the obstacles of this gorgeous links. Though the stones that paved the path that led me on a journey from hole to hole were not of alabaster, even the great Boromir of Gondor would be proud to call Settler's Mill his home. I wish that the owner and founder of this establishment will live a long, prosperous life. That his wife's thighs will be anointed too and bare many sons. That his cornucopia will never be depleted. That the offspring of said thighs will be strong in will and brawn. That the wisdom of Solomon will reside between his ears. That the strength of a legion of horses will rest in his right hand. That everything he touches will be blessed. If however the owner and founder is of female sex. I declare health and happiness upon her. That her tendons will know no injury. That her incredible self esteem and power would flow from her into those she blesses with her presence. That the physical prowess of a thousand Amazonian warriors will reside in her forearms. That her mind will be blessed with enough cunning to ruin the world, but enough compassion to not.

And, then, out of sheer determination, insanity, stubbornness, or a little of all three--continues to wack the ball 12 times before making it--nearly resulting in his disqualification? I had my Tin Cup moment at Eagle Falls Adventure Golf. Except, rather than a water hazard, it was threading the needle on an uphill shot (that if made, results in a hole in one...or...of course, I could have opted for the safer round-about-route). No safe routes! 8 ridiculous tries later--I sunk my putt to the roar of the crowd. Or, more aptly, to my two fellow golfers sighs of relief Sometimes ya just gotta dig in and make the fun shot. Because, that's what mini golf is all about! And, who doesn't like a little mini golf? I mean, I'm sure there are some people who don't--but this girl's not one of them. Came here during a recent trip up north (shout out to Elite Yelper, Jerry, who shared an article with me about "up north" recreation that led me here!). For $8 per person, you get 18 holes of mini golf (I would say a little higher than average in price). The course is not the most complex/elaborate I've enjoyed, but also not the most basic. There are water features, "sand" traps, and all manners of twists, turns, and uphill/downhill shenanigans. If it's super busy, know you'll likely have to wait between holes and, if it's a hot day, there's not a ton of shade to wait in. They also have laser tag, which is an adventure we saved for another day, so I couldn't comment on that. But, the mini golf? I'm a fan. Get to it!

Until I attended it for myself, I never thought much of this great-grand-daddy of all redneck…read moresports. I'd sum it up by saying there is nothing more cathartic to watch than 4-1/2 hours of sheer automotive destruction on a muddy field with 2400 onlookers. The Demolition Derby is the pinnacle of the Iron County Fair, always on a Saturday evening starting at 6 PM and ending when the last car is left standing. While I could write this as an update to my fair review from previous years, I feel this deserves its own mention. In the days leading up to the derby, junker cars start to be seen about town, sitting in driveways, backyards, or sneaking in a quick run down a side street. On the day of the event, a procession of beaters without windows, spray-painted with names of local businesses sponsoring them, or decorated for a laugh, these cars ride to the field beside the fairgrounds, like gladiators to an arena. The small town of 3,100 people literally shuts down, as stores and restaurants close up early so everyone can be there. Roughly 2/3 of the town's population gathers for this spectacle. The customary greeting "See you at the fair" is heard with the frequency of "Merry Christmas" on Christmas Day. It's a tremendous experience for anyone attending. At the ticket price of $6 per adult or $5 per kid, it's an awesome bargain too. And don't worry about the food. For a mere $14, I got 3 brats, potato chips, cheesy nachos, 2 bags of popcorn, 1 soda, 1 water bottle and a hot dog! Talk about a deal! And the proceeds go towards the local kids' ice hockey program. Decadent fair food? Check! A vendor called Nacho Mama's has "Walking tacos", which are a bag of Fritos torn open, toss in a scoop of hot beef, some sour cream, lettuce and cheese with a fork on top and you're good to go! The demo derby starts with the national anthem. Then cars come out, 10-11 per round, bashing and colliding into each other. We pick our favorite car in each round and watch whose car wins. Don't underestimate those beat-up ol' station wagons. Those things can dole out the punishment as much as they can withstand it. After a night of collisions, the wagon's rear resembles a hatchback compact's rear, but the sucker keeps on going. After each battle, front loaders and claw-equipped bulldozers come carry out the wrecks. A grader smooths the field for the next group, and the battle rages on. This continues through 4 preliminary rounds, 2 consolations, and a finale. Mixed in are battles for the compact cars and mid-sized sedans. It's a guilty pleasure to watch, but a sheer thrill for my 2 boys. Even after 4 hours, they were not bored of it. Tired yes, but bored no. Well worth staying past their bedtime. For a few hours, you forget your worries, your job, your ills and just live in the moment of relishing the destruction before your eyes. In these times, we all can use some of that.

THE BEST PART OF SUMMER!…read more The derby is a must see for everyone. All locals know to attend the derby. Good beer and smashing cars. Awesome.
