Several years ago I attended a semester here . Already having a bachelors degree I thought this would be a good place to further my education. I enrolled in the adult I T program. It was a huge disappointment. Professions are inconsistent. Lack of resources was also a disappointment. The campus was nice , but nothing special. What i find hilarious is they send me e-mails about going back . If I felt I was getting my money's worth I probably would have stayed. read more

My daughter graduated from this university last year in B.S in computer science and other son is still here doing B.S in financing he in 2 yr . Iam am very proud of them . It's a good university. I came here today for a college visit. This is a very beautiful college. It has a modernized library for students. There is plenty of greenery. I noticed a diverse student population. There are a variety of foods available on campus including two cafes serving by Starbucks. I tasted a delicious grilled veggie burger at an after hour grill, after the cafeteria closed for lunch. The staff is friendly. We found a wonderful student who spoke who helped us find our way when we were looking for a professors office. read more

I am coming at this from a different angle...........I do not know if Elmhurst is a good college. I assume that it is. I am coming from the angle of a neighbor...........and Wifey and I are glad they are our neighbor. We love to walk the "campus". We love to use the track. We attend the various outdoor events (jazz concerts etc) and we need to attend one of the indoor event (lectures etc). Fun to watch the teams practice....be it soccer or football or track. I had a great time at Elmhurst College. It's really easy to get involved in the different programs and in the end I graduated through the Honors Program, with 3 different honors organizations that I was a part of and with a double major in Music and Computer Science with a minor in Audio Engineering. My daughter attended this school for one year - actually ended up leaving early and finishing what classes she could remotely. Reading some of the more negative reviews from several years back, I see that the administration does little to make improvements. Same sort of issues - for professors it depends who you get - some are helpful, some when you ask for help provide none. Administration -- consider what you expect from a larger university - although many are kind when dealing with them - we have received the run around - one person/department says one thing; the other says something the opposite. Little contact with career coach and advisor (but I have heard some students having great contact so again it depends on who you have). If you need a disability accommodation - you would expect the person you deal with to be somewhat compassionate - nope; and you need to go through hoops to provide any legit and even small accommodation. Dorms are very outdated and there are always issues; food don't even talk about it poor quality, expensive and limited hours. I even contacted the president of university on some serious personal items and his response was pompous and with a "blame the victim" tone with no acknowledgement that they could make some improvements. I give two stars as there were some positives - her assistant coach, some professors and the campus is pretty and a good location. read more

Senior at Elmhurst here, and I'm going to try to be as comprehensive as possible, so... tl;dr - It's an OK school that will get you where you want to be. Offers good opportunities to get on-site experience with your field, and is well respected by local employers and med/grad schools. The campus is pleasant and clean, but the atmosphere can be quiet and boring. Overall, I got my education, but I didn't have fun. First of all, I should state that I'm a commuter student who came to Elmhurst because it was the best option within driving distance of my home. I don't understand the "no parking spots" complaint, I have never had a problem finding parking, although you should always come ~15 minutes early in case you have to park far from the building you need to be in. The campus is very nice outdoors and has a very convenient layout. It should never take you longer than 15 minutes to get to class, no matter where you start from on campus. The classrooms are also decent, though nothing special. Some rooms appear outdated, and many still use chalkboards, but at least they are clean and have comfy chairs. The science labs were recently updated and are better than most small schools. Yes, food is expensive. Books are expensive. It's a college, what else do you expect? (Seriously though, one cup of Lipton tea is over $2. Luckily, the public library across the street has a great cafe. There is also a Starbucks on campus, for those who care.) Elmhurst is a small school that really does not facilitate much social interaction between students. Campus is generally quiet and it can be boring. Students are very focused on their work here (a trait I actually really appreciate), and you'll rarely get to meet people outside of your major. The clubs don't really do anything either. There is Greek life, but I have never been involved with it. I'd be OK with the lack of events at school if I had more fun in my classes (this is where this review gets more negative). Elmhurst requires a ton of general education credits, including politics, history, & religion (my least favorite class to date). They also don't offer many electives within majors. I often didn't feel like I chose my classes, instead I was just stuck taking the courses I needed. This led to many unenthusiastic semesters. The faculty (and I can only speak for some) weren't the most encouraging; at least, they didn't seem to care much about students as individuals. They were surprisingly unaccommodating, and it was frustrating at times just to get advice. The school will brag about it's small class size on the college website/brochure, but I've never been in a class with less then 20 students. Typical is about 25. Also, registering for classes is a nightmare. Anyways, to wrap this up, I want to get into graduate school. Elmhurst students have great acceptance ratings, and at the end of the day, that's all I care about. Will I look back at my college years with fond memories? Will I stay in touch with my professors and college friends? Probably not. Is Elmhurst a good school? Depends on your priorities. read more

I went to Elmhurst College because I was too lazy to drive to Chicago everyday or take the Metra since I got tired of doing that for 4 years to go to Loyola. Well, that was the worst decision ever. The adiministration seem to only just want money from students. They do not care for anything else. There are no parking spaces and you have to wait 30/40 minutes to find a parking spot. If you park anywhere you get a ticket?? It seems they just want you to take classes and never graduate just so you can pay more money. Financial aid and student accounting are ran by senile people who do not what exactly is going on. The faculty is the only good thing in the school but not all of it is the same. There are faculty who complain that they only have one class and keep telling the students to tell the administration to give them more classes. There is a faculty member that I as a student knew more on the subject than he did. I did not attend the class and did not even bother to buy the book and when I did go to class I slept and I still managed to get an A without any hard work. There is another faculty member who was almost deaf who did not hear what the students said. It is definetely not a place to go to for me. The people who go there and like it probably have their parents pay for everything and they do not know what is a good education or what is a good institution. Even the parties there suck! read more

Here's the thing... The school is great. However, the cafeteria and the roost (another eating option) are what I wanted to review.... They are both VERY expensive and VERY poor quality of food. Nearly everything I've had has tasted frozen. College students are notoriously poor and I'm no exception. Often times, I have to go hungry on campus because the food is so expensive. Pretty much the only thing you can get that has some semblance of freshness is fruits and vegetables/salads. That being said, a small fruit cup is $5. This is so sad. Step it up Elmhurst! If it were my decision (which it's obviously not) I'd fire Chart Wells! read more

Graduated From their Nursing Program in 2012. Got a job right away currently completing a masters Not going to lie,it is a very rigorous program. Started with about a 100+ nursing students freshman year only about 30 graduated. Great campus great memories read more

My son is a senior in high school. He gets letters and brochures from colleges daily. I don't know anything about this college, except for the fact that the letter stated "Elmhurst College-Two Things Too Consider" Really??? I'm surprised no one has caught that and changed it yet. read more

As a first year student, double major in Secondary Education and Mathematics, and a minor in Music Business, I believe Elmhurst College is a great college that provides a great experience both academically and socially. The campus is beautiful, clean, and very well-kept. The students and peers are all very warm, friendly, and welcoming. And the administration and staff are just the same. The courses are challenging and exciting and the availability for help, be it advising or counseling, is all made available to the student. The courses are challenging and rewarding, and never overwhelming. The tuition is high; however, the financial aid offered by Elmhurst College is all high as well. A majority of the financial aid I received were grants, meaning I did not have to pay the college back any money at the end of the semester. Elmhurst College has many extracurricular activities to offer than many students should take advantage of. Personally, I have taken part in the theater department as well as the Greek Life with a fraternity (Alpha Sigma Phi). I have been introduced to a whole new world of theatrics and have socially opened myself up to the entire campus by joining the fraternity. I have met many new people and established many different friendships because of Elmhurst College. Getting involved is easy too--this is coming from a commuter. Elmhurst College is a great school and recommend anyone who is looking into applying or attending Elmhurst College to do so. read more

I graduated from Elmhurst College in '03 and it served it's purpose. I got an education...a very expensive education. Elmhurst College is a small (about 2-3k students including the grad program) private school located in a residential suburb about 30 west of Chicago. The campus is beautiful. The campus is surrounded my half a million dollar homes and well to do people. There's not much going on in the area...just a typical suburb with lots of stores and chain restaurants. This isn't a typical college at all...mostly commuters students that still live at home with their parents. Or adults returning to school for their college education. The best part of this school was the J-term also know as the January term. You have a month off in January or can study abroad or take a 4 week intensive class on campus. I took classes for most of the J-terms...and one year studied in South America. That was a fun trip! and expensive trip...sometimes I regret going to such a small school. I think sometimes I missed out on a real college experience. Oh well...I've graduated, that should be the most important part of it. read more

I graduated from Elmhurst College in 2007. Before attending EC, I went to a community college in Michigan, so I did not spend all 4 of my undergrad years there, but I spent a solid 2.5 years there. Yes, tuition is expensive, but that is what happens when you select a private college. I was both a commuter and lived on campus--when I transferred in January of 2005, I lived in the dorms and after the first semester I moved into an apartment with roommates. When my then-boyfriend (now husband) moved to Florida to finish his school, I moved back into the dorms and spent my "final year" as a on-campus student. I LOVED living on campus because I did not have to deal with parking each day for classes, but parking was horrible in the evenings when I got off of work and had to go back to campus. Since I haven't been there in 4 years, I do not know how parking is, but it was frustrating when I was there. I loved that you could walk across campus in any direction in 5-10 minutes. I loved that you could walk to downtown Elmhurst and walk around. I loved that you could walk to the MARTA station and go into the city. I loved that it had the "small school" feel--it was perfect for me as I am shy and do not like to party much. I honestly do not feel like I missed out on anything in my college career by not going to a big state school because Elmhurst was perfect FOR ME. One major complaint that I have is that I was not required to do an internship of any kind to graduate or get any experience and although I sought one out on my own, no one really urged me to do so because it would help me in my future. I met amazing people and lifelong friends when I lived on campus!! read more

Despite some irks I have with the administration, I have to say I am a fan of this school. I transferred from a big state school because after 2 years I didn't feel like I was learning anything (which is the point of a degree, right?) Transferred to Elmhurst because it was close to home and gave me about $15000 in annual scholarships, meaning it cost LESS than the state school I was attending especially since I was commuting from home. The professors here care. My favorites so far have been Barerra, Vilim, Simpson, and Smoak. Dr. Wilson has been awesome to me too. I think American Marketing Association (a business group on campus) has been a good experience as well. I can say that this is a great school for business. What keeps it from being a 5 star review is a few administrative choices, Chartwells food, and the lack of recreational things to do at this school. read more

So, I went to Elmhurst College and graduated just this past spring. It is a horribly boring school with boring people. A good party is considered to be one at a dumpy house somewhere in a basement and you have to cross your fingers that the elderly neighbors wont call the po and have your party busted. After 5 pm the campus is dead because everyone goes home. I recently started graduate school at a very large university and realized that I missed out on college life- TOTALLY and it makes me sad to think that I spent so much but did not realize that there were so many better and more affordable places out there. Terrible administration, and extremely expensive. I wince a little bit writing a bad review because my graduate professors have been amazing, absolutely wonderful, and that's important. However, its so expensive that even after FAFSA, you're still left with tons of expenses. Because it's such a small school, the course offerings are sparse, so you could actually delay your graduation by up to a full year because if you don't catch a class spot while its there, it won't be offered again for two semesters..(if you're lucky). In addition, the financial aid department is ruthless and unwilling to work with you and offer reasonable payment plans. January term classes are to be paid up front, in my case it was $1800 for one class, and they refused to work out a payment plan for me. The woman told me, "I don't know what to tell you, put it on a credit card." I attended St. Xavier University for my undergrad degree and while similar in costs, the financial aid departments and administration actually have their stuff together, and they are so helpful. Students and parents who are college hunting, consider another school...you'll get just as good of a degree from somewhere like Governors State for half the cost. read more
