Hot Fired Arts - Pottery figurines available to paint

When you first walk in you are greeted and presented with the various projects that the shop has to offer. After selecting pottery painting, canvas painting, or glass fusing you are explained the next steps. We each selected two objects to paint and spent the afternoon in the studio painting away. We go pick up our art in 10 days which is the processing time. The shop does have a strict 60 day policy to pickup within or your art is thrown out. A fun and unique experience!

Instructions were clear, supplies were all we needed and the instructor took time to help my husband when he fell behind (I mean, took his time). The space was set well for the crowd, and there was enough room that we weren't bumping elbows. Bring your own drink-- stop by a local brewery on the way or visit the Dunkin' next door if that's more your speed. As a comparison, this is much more of an art class than a Paint Nite experience, in my opinion. That was totally fine for us, as we planned more for the evening. The general selection of ceramics was a bit smaller than other local places, but they offer a variety of stuff to choose from. In addition to the adult paint nights, they also offer kids classes (two hours, drop off). We'll be back.

I have a 8 year old with special needs and the people scanning tickets would scan twice. I don't thinks it's fair because an adult is not enjoying the ride as much as the child does. The GREAT Frederick fair is an event not to miss!…read more Celebrating over 150 years, this fair is the epitome of the past and the present. Where else can you see blue ribbon tomatoes from local gardens, taste wines from the vineyards all around Maryland, see a concert with a relevant country artist, ride the rides, and eat the latest deep-fried desert deliciousness? For eight bucks? We were seriously blown away. Daughter and I found parking for five dollars within 100 feet of the main entrance. There were acres and acres of rides and games and all the usual carnival stuff! There was a fun house that looked like the one in "Grease", and of course the old standbys like the giant Ferris wheel, the zipper, the tilt a whirl, and the octopus. There were many many more. You could spend the whole day and go on all the rides. And of course there are arcades of all sorts that you can win anything from a live fish to a giant low-quality stuffed animal. And they had all the deep-fried stuff. We had a funnel cake with ice cream and sprinkles that was the size of an apple pie. But we could've tried the deep-fried Twinkies, or the deep-fried Snickers bar had we had it in us. Perusing the agricultural barns was really fun to see the winning zinnias, tomatoes, and senior art projects. For a moment I felt like I was in 1917 not 2017! At night the fair lit up with all the moving parts of all the rides in with huge crowds and the country singer in the background and it really was a feel good old fashion way to spend the evening, dazzling the senses on a warm Indian summer eve.

Maryland Craft Beer Festival - In line at the Maryland Craft Beer Festival...

The Maryland Craft Beer Festival did not disappoint again this year! The line to get in looks…read morereally long, but it goes by fast. The festival takes place on one side of the Carroll Creek. There were about 45 different breweries and the $40 ticket price is a steal! Everything was organized well and the lines to get beers were long, but they moved quick! 1:30 to 5:00 was a good amount of time to sample everything I wanted to. They do have a VIP option which gets in at 12 instead of 1:30 if you want an extra hour of drinking and a little less crowding. I also used the cleanest porta-potty ever, especially for a beer festival. Im not sure if no one knew about them at the end of the creek or everyone was sweating too much to need to use them or what but it was a very pleasant surprise! The only thing I did not like and would consider changing for next year was all of the the strollers and the children. I know it sounds bad but it is a beer festival. Strollers take up so much space and the festival was already a little crowded and hard to squeeze by in some spots. Also, in my opinion I am not sure a beer festival is the greatest place to bring young children, there are no activities for them to do and people want to be able to drink and have conversations and not worry there are young children around.

That being said the one major disappointment this year, comparing to years past, is the crazy plan to go with DJs instead of live bands. This is such a major once per year festival and you go with a DJ in the main area playing poor song selection vinyl. The DJ in the other area was playing much better music appropriate for the festival. Great food selections this year but overall number of breweries was down. Still, with all available the bands looking to make a name for themselves, the powers that be go with a DJ, crazy!

Warehouse Cinemas Frederick - Beer wall

Easily one of the best movie theaters in Frederick -- this is my go-to spot…read more The seats alone set this place apart: large, comfortable, fully reclining, and spaced out enough that people can walk by without you having to move. Huge upgrade from your typical theater experience. They also go beyond just movies. There's a full bar, real food (not just popcorn), and everything I've tried has been good -- most recently the BBQ chicken pizza. They also do themed drinks for new releases, which is such a fun touch. I love that they offer $7 Tuesdays (which do sell out fast) and regularly host events. I recently went to their Trailer Fest, and it was a great experience -- tons of previews, food samples, giveaways, and just an overall fun vibe. They also show throwback movies and have a rewards program, so there's always something going on beyond just current releases. Every time I bring someone here, they end up loving it too. It's clean, well-run, and just a really enjoyable movie experience all around.

They're definitely more expensive. I usually pay $12-$13 per ticket at Alamo. At Warehouse I paid $35.88 for 2 tickets. The food is pretty expensive, too. The "monster hot dog" (I believe it was called dogzilla) was a regular sized hot dog with some toppings and a SMALL side of chips for $13. Drinks were on the high side, too. Between the tickets, the food (hot dog and an appetizer), a couple adult beverages (one mixed drink and a beer) and one soda we spent $137.85 for two people. The theater itself is the reason for 3 stars. The heated, reclining seats are comfortable and spacious. The spacing between each aisle allows people to walk through comfortably. This theater is about the same driving distance for us as Alamo. I would choose Alamo every time.
