Low to moderate .8 mile hike to Elowah Falls. Beautiful backdrop, but waterfall is a bit wimpy. After crossing the bridge I continued on for .5 mile, but the path just seemed to parallel loud I-84. Upper McCord Creek Falls is peaceful 1.3 mile moderate hike via mainly switchbacks. What was particularly pleasing was the catwalk views of the Gorge and flat paths among the trees. It's far from busy, very tranquil people-wise compared to other falls in the area. The parking lot is small. read more

The top part was closed due to the aftermath of the fires like the trail. We went trough the lower trail and it was an easy hike except for a part where the trail was very thin to the point it felt like we were gonna fall. Either then that I would say beatiful view! read more

Recently after dumping some weight I started hiking with The Tax Deduction on weekends to spend time with him as well as get in better shape. One of the first hikes we did was the Elowah/Upper McCord Falls hike. Easy to find, not too difficult, scenic as anything I've ever seen and rewarding at both ends this is a great hike for anyone, no matter your experience or fitness level. We decided that we would follow some advice from someone on line which was to hit Elowah first then slog the big uphill to McCord that way it's about all downhill back to the parking area. It worked beautifully and was a great morning. I suggest starting early, around 8am before the crowds roll in on weekends. We met all sorts of people on the trail, all of them friendly, and lots of people taking their dogs as well (remember your poop bags!). I highly recommend this hike! read more

I found this hike to the waterfall listed as easy so I decided to do it solo shortly after sunrise one morning. I passed an old wooden water tank not far from the parking lot and found the initial part segment of the hike easy, but just when the falls come into view through the trees, the trail gets a little dangerous, at least for this senior. It would have been doable had I possessed trekking poles, but those were back home in CT so I decided discretion was the better part of valor and turned around at that point. read more

This waterfall is one of the hidden gems in Columbia gorge. Just remember that parking can be hassle as parking lot is pretty small so be ready to walk little bit if you get parking on the road. Hike to the fall is not very long. It is a baby friendly hike. I went with my 2 year old and she walked most of it except for the tricky terrain close to the fall. Few patches are steep for young kids and there is good amount of uphill and downhill both ways. It's a curvy hike and you do hear road noise for half of the hike. It is little slippery too due to little falls on the trail. This one can be done quickly if you are not planning to stop at the fall. We did spend good time there. I am always thankful that Oregon has so much natural beauty to offer. The view that welcomes you at the end is stunning. Waterfall is very picturesque and it was windy at the time we went so mist was blowing around which made it very refreshing. There are other adjoining trails that can be done too. Take extra pair of cloths as the water will make you feel like jumping in:)! read more

I am going to give this 5 stars because it deserves it. This was once an amazing waterfall with hiking trails and bridges and well... It has been nearly closed down since the awful Oregon fires last September. We were there a couple months ago and could just barely walk up to the falls. They have information on the fires with pictures and facts about the devastation. The land around the falls and all the trails is too unsteady due to the intense heat and flames that the parks department has no clue when it can all reopen. We were able to get some great photos, stretch our legs and unfortunately learned more about the fires that ripped thru than we did about the land or falls itself. Hit up this spot on the way back to Portland from Hood River. Shares its trailhead with the Upper McCord Falls and it's super easy to do both in a hour or so. You'll hear lots of road noise thru the first half of the trek, and then the sound of the water. Trail was not crowded at all, and IMO the endpoint is nearly as impressive as the super-popular Multnomah. Parts of the trail are slippery, and the path can be rocky so watch your step. Lots of switchbacks but nothing too steep. read more

My first business add on yelp! Although this isn't a business, I'm adding this hike on yelp for all the outdoor enthusiasts out there. Elowah Falls Trail is a great hike - easy to moderate but you will be in store for two great waterfall sightings. The trail is marked and easy to find right off the highway along the Columbia Gorge. Elowah Falls hike is only 0.8 mi. and it's a gradual climb. I recommend bringing hiking poles just bc it can be quite wet and slippery along the way. Elowah Falls is beautiful and secluded enough that you can have a serene hike and not run into a ton of tourists (especially on a weekday). Elowah falls is beautiful! Be prepared to get wet because you'll get sprayed for sure! To get to the top of Elowah Falls, take the Upper Mccord Falls Trail. That is 1.1 mi from the start, so if you double back, the distance is a little less than that. You'll climb up the mountain side and see views of the Columbia River and the WA state side. It's nice to get another view of Elowah Falls from the top to get a perspective of how high it cascades. Mccord Falls flows down and becomes Elowah. Mccord is very special because it splits into two falls and looks like a double waterfall. Absolutely breathtaking. Great hike, great scenary and good exercise (especially after having consumed some Voodoo Doughnuts). Enjoy! read more

Very easy hike. Gorgeous views of the landscape throughout the hike. Saw folks bringing their dogs and kids on the hike. Loved that you can take a dip in the water to get to the bottom is the falls (I didn't. It was cold since we hiked during the late afternoon). We went on a Saturday and had no issue getting parking. You can take other trails nearby as well if you want a longer trip, but I didn't so I'm not sure how great those will be. TLDR: short easy hike with great photo opportunities and you can swim out walk to the bottom of the falls. read more

This waterfall is very beautiful. As of early March 2017 the trail is not well maintained and is therefor a little more difficult to traverse. The view at the end is worth it, if you can handle the slightly rough patch. The hike is .8 miles, 1.6 round trip. read more

Surprised I haven't reviewed this waterfall before. It is absolutely gorgeous (thought a little dangerous in the winter). Of course, I happened to wear the wrong shoes the day I went (as it was more of a spontaneous stop) but Elowah Falls during the snowy months is a winter wonderland. read more

Just hiked in January, sheets of ice abound so it was a challenge for only a .7 mile hike. Totally worth seeing in winter but be careful about falling ice around the falls right now. I climbed to the back of the falls and when it warms all of the area around the falls will send you into water suddenly (it is snow covered water right now). For dogs totally safe and wonderful, for humans have a walking stick in winter and really good gloves and hiking boots. read more

A short hike from an easy to access trailhead. It's a nice break on the drive to or from Portland. The hike is fairly straightforward, but use caution, especially after rain or snow as there are a few tight ledges and slippery bits. The falls are modest but beautiful. Bring a rain jacket or prepare to get very wet in the spray. Lots of different vantage points are available for your photo op, but the rocks can be very slippery! Don't wind up as a cautionary tale against selfies. read more

Another beautiful waterfall just past multnomah off of the 84. Don't get me wrong Multnomah is beautiful but I think this waterfall is just so much more beautiful and the scenery to get there is amazing. I love the bridge right in front of it, allowing some amazing photos. It was just breathtaking! And it was a quiet trail not much foot traffic. The trail was quite easy, a little steep on one switchback but a very easy trail. What's nice about it is that if you're not a regular hiker this trail is definitely one to take. read more

This was a sweet, short hike. Loved the falls n the bridge. An amazing view. The wind was blowing a little so we got to feels the mist on our face...what an experience! Didn't get to check out the other falls in this area because the trail was closed. That was a bummer...prob next time!! After you pass the waterfall keep going on the path. There is a picnic table to sit at. We walked maybe 10 min passed that picnic table but turned back. Only negative thing i have to say is too close to freeway. Go check it out!! read more

Nice short hike for are last waterfall of are vacation to Oregon . This wasn't as crowed since it's one of the farthest east at the end of historic hwy 30. I looked up online the old wooden water reservoir at the beginning of the trail. Cool history, it fed a pulp mill down the hill towards the river. There's some cool old pictures online. read more

This was a nice hike to elowah falls. Right before you get to the water fall the trail is dirt and has a couple spots where you have to go down steep or a short hop ... I saw some people headed down on my way back up with flip flops on which maybe it's just me but I wouldn't advise. But it's an easy short hike with a beautiful waterfall that you are relatively close to for viewing. read more

Definitely, less crowded than the more well known falls of the Columbia River Gorge. A cool place to photograph if you are into waterfalls and long exposure. In the winter, the trail at the end of the waterfalls can get slippery so be careful and bring a pole, plus hiking shoes. read more

This is a perfect hike; picturesque, makes you work a little bit, but not too long. I'd suggest hiking this with Upper McCord Falls--the fork is about half a mile in. Do both. All in, should be about 2.8 mile hike. The falls are formed by McCord Creek, which follows an ancient lava flow. That's cool. It's a great place to be on an adventure, and you're sure to find surprises along the way. Dog on leash, perhaps, but this is a trail Emerson would love. Too bad she couldn't make it! read more

Nice quick easy 15 min hike before we left Portland back to California

Killer hike, wish it was a bit longer but the difficulty is just about right if you are just looking for a leisurely scenic hike to a great end point. There are a few uphill spots that get the calves burning but nothing too bad. Some of the drop offs along the trail were pretty steep and our silly has-no-sense-of-danger puppy almost fell down a few times when she got excited so definitely keep the pup on leash! Rain has been insane the past few months so the waterfall was absolutely breathtakingly powerful and HUGE! We were able to go onto the bridge for a quick pic but got totally soaked doing so (it was raining so we were pretty wet anyways haha). We couldn't go behind the falls this trip (boo) as it was way to big and dangerous. Pup had a BLAST and was warmly welcomed by the other hikers we saw, which is always really refreshing. She is a pitty so sometimes we get the "oh my god it's going to eat me!" looks when she tries to greet people with her big "pibble" smile and wiggly butt. Only one or two took a wide berth as they passed, otherwise everyone was happy to meet her and get beat up by her happy tail (that think is like a whip when she's excited!)b No problems parking but given the weather we didn't expect to have any. LOTS of road noise most of the hike which was quite a shame, luckily the falls overtook it in the end. read more
