I wasn't sure if it was karaoke night, but I figured, regardless, I wanted to check this place out. I think I strolled in around 10:30-11:00 maybe? A few people out front smoking. Inside are two levels- the top a dance floor, the bottom, the pub. Two people were upstairs, that's it. I actually think they were employees just sitting there waiting for customers, but there were none. The action was downstairs. To my luck, it was karaoke night. I walked down the steps and immediately heard a rousing rendition of, "Careless Whisper". I knew I was in the right place. I picked up a rose cider which was around $12 USD and was able to sit down in the front row. A few songs played on the video screen accompanied by a girl who was interrupted by a very drunk man during her rendition of, "Single Ladies (Put a Ring on it). A few Norwegian songs were song, along with a couple American ditties that I can't remember. Sadly, karaoke ended at midnight, at least that evening. I laughed a lot that night. Such great energy and atmosphere here. When I'm back in Oslo, I'll be back at the Pub for sure.

Personally I think it is a great place to spend a few hour after work. Ett Glass have a great location near Karl Johan. It originated as a Gay-bar, but today you find all kinds of people here. The atmosphere is relaxed and warm, and the service is decent. The bathrooms are located in the basement, which feels like a workout after finishing a couple of pitchers. One of the steps are slightly higher than the others so watch out for that, I have all most fell down the whole staircase a few times. Either way, cozy spot down town Oslo.

The bartender informed us that it will take a minute because he needs to get cucumbers. Husband and I looked at each other in confusion - what kind of a dirty martini requires cucumbers? After some communication, the confusion was cleared and we received a well-made dirty martini. We also ordered a local beer (forget the name), which was ok. We were hungry by this time, so we ordered the Norske delikatesser which is a sampler of various Norwegian meats and cheeses. It is good for a light dinner, but nothing memorable. The ambiance of this place is interesting. It is a mixed crowd and the ambiance changes rapidly from many couples having dinner to a party scene after 10pm. A nice place for people watching and getting a drink before moving on to another place for dinner.

Their cocktails are formulated around art and music with fanciful concoctions based on iconic Scandinavia art (The Scream), literature (peer gint) and more. The service is impeccable with a staff who is very knowledgeable about the intricacies of the menu and super in tune with patrons. This bar has a very cool way of crafting drinks as an ode to the relationship between Norway and the United States. It's a beautiful science of all of the senses. We had every specialty drink on the menu (except the one with the gold coin). Some places have a hard time executing on really great drinks, service, AND ambiance... this place does it all with excellence. The drinks are high quality, intentional, and amazing. The food (we had the sliders) also caught us off guard with how good it was. From our seats at the bar, George was an incredible bartender! We're so excited to see how the menu continues to transform with the seasons, offering new and exciting cocktails. We will absolutely be back and recommend Pier 42 to anyone we can!

You go here if you like to show that you like rock and if you don't care about showing nothing at all. The latter are not the hipsters ;) It used to be packed, but the hip factor has cooled off. Good! The interior is not. Which is part of the whole atmosphere. And the pictures- epic shots of old rock heroes, make many of us nostalgic and remembering when we were in our 20s. Oh well.
