I am a California native and I will admit their selection of wines is phenomenal. We met a friendly gentleman who is one of their master wine club members and he shared a tasting of his Malbec - we loved it so bought a bottle, enjoyed a glass, and took the rest home to enjoy over dinner that night. Only complaint is their wine glasses for non members aren't great - didn't get to really enjoy my wine fully until I was home and used my own glassware. A friend and I came to check out the Elusive Grape. It was a Saturday night around 7. They were busy but not crowded. We were not met at the hostess station at the entrance by acknowledgment of our presence and were hardly acknowledged as we made our way farther back looking for appropriate seating. After sitting there wondering if we had to go to the bar or what to do to get someone to at least let us know they know we are here. It was obvious as we were aimlessly looking around as we were sitting there that we would like someone to validate us with a smile or a wave. Finally a gentleman brought place-sheets of paper that had that a menu. He asked for our drink order and of course the alcohol choices were mainly wine but for those of us that drink anything other than that have much less than that. Maybe 5 other choices including water, beer, tea. . My friend wanted wine which was our main purpose for being there. I ordered a high end water first so as to at least make my presence worthy for service. The waiter wrote this down and before he took my gentleman friends order for wine, the waiter shoved his ticket order booklet into his pocket and excused himself with I'll be right back as if he had to quickly take care of a emergency and we accepted only to see him head for the front door to speak with a coworker on the way then go to another EMPTY table to clean it off. He collected all the plates & silverware then walked right past us and took everything back to the kitchen. My dinner partner and I watched this in silence and then looked at each other in amazement and utter surprise. We both asked each other what just happened like two children who got in trouble but didnt know why? We're we waited on or given service? We really didn't know what to think and sat there for a few minutes trying to think up good excuses for this rude behavior. Only to be left to our own devices for what seemed an eternity we easily could sumize they could not justify being too busy to help us. It wasn't too late or too little staffed even. It was just very bad and a terrible representation of what we hope is not the norm for such a charming place but I made the exception of my norm to get a free ice water and got Perrier but I guess our value was judged based on this even though my friend was drinking wine and we wanted a bite to eat as well. We ended up walking out and passed otter waiters who smiled but never asked us if things were alright in order to possible save us from never coming back but no one seemed to be aware nor cared and we left to find a place to be appreciated and properly waited on. I'm sorry to report this. I'd rather write about a happy experience but we felt relived and happy when we left. read more

the live music is nice, people of all ages but mostly local older crowd who hang out and dance, due to not knowing people there and i don't drink wine i still felt comfortable just hanging out people watching. Hopefully after a couple times going ill get to know more people and hopefully get at least a good friend. read more

The "Grape" also called DeLans's Living Room is great on weekends, if crowded and loud. At least on Friday and Saturday evenings they have several servers. During the week, as today - Wednesday- they are understaffed and patrons are left floundering after the first round. We wanted a second glass but waited so late no with empty glasses that we simply asked for the check when the server finally showed. Decent place on s slow night. read more

My mom and I came here on a random night, we had a half off bottle of wine and split a cheese plate. Both of which were great quality. The restaurant was busy, but the service was poor. We sat in lunge chairs which were great and secluded. We than were served our cheese plate and wine, but never saw an employee again until after we paid our bill. No-one came back to check on the quality of the food or wine and than to obtain a check I had to walk to the bar and pay. I made a mention that we had poor service on the tab and was than quickly approached by one of the service line. She questioned me and I stated I didn't exactly know who I was tipping because we failed to see anyone in the restaurant. Not sure I would return and sad this seemed like great place. read more

Lovely spot with plenty of seating. On the Friday that we went they had live music inside and it was the perfect thing to add to the atmosphere. The music wasn't loud at all and you could hear it clearly and talk to the person next to you without yelling. read more

We went here last night, and the food and wine was great! Loved the atmosphere too. I have been here many times, and never experienced service like last night. The waitress was rude and condescending. We asked for suggestions, and it didn't seem like she was thrilled about anything on the menu. When 9pm hit, she immediately came over and turned the open sign off, and proceeded to tell us how annoying it is when people don't leave. Keep in mind, we just received our third bottle of wine, and we were not going to leave until it was finished. A lot was left to be desired from this waitress. read more

Deland's wine bar. Very well stocked with a very comfortable atmosphere. Lots of couches and comfy chairs to enjoy a glass of wine and chat with most of Deland's old guard. Age range is 30 plus with live music on most Friday and Saturdays. Prices are very fair with no cork fees on bottles purchased in-house. read more

I had grown up in DeLand and went to visit last year after decades away. As I roomed around downtown, it was mentioned to me to visit, " Elusive Grape " for a glass of wine. Well, several glasses of wine later and tons of conversation with people I had grown up with, I felt completely at home once again.
