As the name implies, once a farm, Spriggs Farm Park is now a small park bordering the Magothy River. The amenities are very simple and limited to a porta potty, one or two picnic tables and a small sandy beach with a kayak/canoe launch. The park is gated but visitors can contact the county if they would like to be able to drive in and park. Otherwise, there is some street parking. Once inside the gate it is a bumpy ride down a gravel road past the porta potty. Before too long you arrive at a place where you can turn off to park in a grassy lot. If you go to the end of the road you can unload your kayak/canoe but you will then need to move your car to the parking lot. As far as the kayak/canoe launch goes, from the drop off point it is about 150 yards to the sandy launch. There is a little bit of a steep hill down to the launch but it as been stabilized with some railroad ties for steps. For those not in search of a small boat launch the best part of the park is probably views of the river including Dobbins Island and Gibson Island. But be aware, there is very little shade at this park.

Unlike many other parks Lake Waterford typically has a ton of county park employees on-site. It really shows because they are usually out and about maintaining the park which is always litter free and beautifully landscaped. There are numerous trails and water views throughout the woods. I took my 7 month old in a stroller to see all of the farm animals, took a lap around the walking trail, and ended at the infant swings at the park. A perfect afternoon! Oh and the bathrooms next to the park are always clean and have toilet paper which is a big plus :)

CYCLING THE B&A TRAIL…read more The B&A trail is about 15 miles long and easily accessible via the parking lot on Route 450 (about 2 bikes north of the "old Severn River Bridge). The trail can get on the weekend (starting at 9am) and has a number of stop signs at the entrance to neighborhoods and at road crossings. This will interrupt your rhythm if you're a fast road bike. This is a multi-use trail with joggers, dog walkers, skaters and cyclists. It's easy to share this train with 2-way traffic .. 2 can cycle side-by-side and easily pass others. Plenty of places to stop for food and drink, especially as you near Severna Park.

While riding the BWI airport loop last week, I saw a sign for the B&A trail, so I knew I'd be here next. I still parked at the Thomas Dixon Observation Area and took the trail backwards (well, there's really no right way to take the Airport Loop, but the connection to the B&A is towards the end of the loop). Once I made it to the B&A connection, I had to ask myself, "Where have I been?" I could have been riding THIS trail the whole time! There's so much nature along the trail. Wetlands, native flowers, tons of bamboo, farmland, horses, etc. I love. Also, the trail is nice & flat with few bumps from raised roots. AND the areas that are raised are painted red so you can see them and prepare for the bump. WINNING! AND, there's a bathroom along the trail with a water fountain and bottle filler. The bathroom is air-conditioned, and I even had room to take my bike inside. It was spotless. It's a cute little orange house with benches in front & grass. Many people rest there. At that same spot there's also a contraption that has tools to fix your bike and an air pump. There are several rest areas along the way in the form of benches in the shade. There are also shops in the Severna Park area that cater to trial-goers. I saw a B&A Acai and Smoothie shop, The Bean Co, which I assume to be a coffee shop, and little sandwich shops. The trail is on the back side of the strip mall, but they have tables & chairs back there for trail patrons. I even saw a taproom if you'd like to stop for a beer. My mileage from the Thomas Dixon observation area to the end of the trail in Annapolis was 16 miles (32 roundtrip). You can get some good speed on the back half of the trail which seemed to be less populated. And I'm sure it's also less crowded during the week versus the weekends. It's a nice trail!

This is one of the nicest parks and has an impressive array of equipment, fields, trails, and…read moreshelters. We visited twice while in the area -- once near dusk and once in the midmorning hours. The park is well utilized and populated with other park goers and sporting activities. Plenty of parking, easy access, and restroom facilities of portable toilet near the playground and soccer field. Witnessed several soccer games and lacrosse team sports while visiting and driving through the park. Stadium lighting enabled game play after the sun had set. Fields all appeared to be well maintained. Fitness trail with instructional signage and equipment was well maintained and an impressive feature. Plenty of trails could be seen from our vantage point. Multiple covered shelters with plenty of picnic tables. Lots of dog walkers and foot traffic. We enjoyed the pirate ship playground equipment as well as swings, including one specifically outfitted to accommodate special needs. Play activity equipment was scattered around the large soft-surface playground, including a drum and bell stand and spinning equipment, with a handful of benches scattered about surrounding the area to accommodate watchful oversight close by. Stamp of approval from the 3-year-old and all of the adults in our group. Would visit again.

I frequent Tick Neck Park to run/walk the trails with and without my pup. I find myself there…read moreseveral times a week. Although they don't have a dog park, the fenced baseball field area is commonly used as one. It is always clean and well kept. There is a playground for the kids and a very nice soccer field right in the middle. It has plenty of parking and is basically attached to the lot at Northeast HS. The only issues I ever see here are people failing to pick up dog poop.

Over the years I have visited this park on many occasions and I am almost always the only one there. Even on weekends when I think the fields would be in use I seem to be the only one there. When does this park get used? There are several fields/baseball diamonds and as far as I can tell, one of them is even lit. There is also a playground which was just replaced in late 2023. I wish the park had a paved path that looped around the whole park but unfortunately it doesn't.
