Plenty of parking but there is a short walk from there to the park. It's the perfect place to spend a lazy day, and just a cool little park overall...

The Children's Memorial Playground is relatively new, according to the Queen Anne's County official website. The equipment is perfect for smaller children (my DGS, who is almost 10, quickly lost interest). But really, the lack of shade is a real deal-breaker for us - the equipment gets hot! It appears the park is mostly devoted to sports, with several softball/baseball diamonds, a sand volleyball court, tennis courts, basketball courts, soccer fields, and a concession stand for refreshments. The website also lists batting cages and a lacrosse field, which we didn't see. It appears there is a paved trail that runs through it and off in two directions (Cross Island Trail) so the parking lot provides free parking for that. Whenever we travel, we always seek out a new playground so the kiddos can run off steam. It worked for that, briefly, but it was just too hot to hang out there for long. And I wish the info board had more, well, info on it.

unlike the name of this park, we really didn't see anything "lovey dovey" about this place. no…read moreinitials carved in trees, no look out points, no special views of the city. however, this is a good place to go for a run, walk, after dinner stroll, etc. since my family had a mini-reunion in nearby chester, hubby and i took it upon ourselves to find parks and trails where we could workout (and work off all the food that we'd be consuming during our reunion time)! this park is on the path of the cross island trail, and provides running paths, basketball courts, tennis courts, several baseball fields, soccer fields, and lots of grassy areas for picnics and other recreational activities. unfortunately, since we were here during the winter, and it was cold and snowy outside, we didn't get to take advantage of any of the amenities aside from the running paths. but i do recommend taking a jog through this park as it's quite big. will definitely try to return in warmer seasons to take advantage of all that this park has to offer.

In part because it's often empty, so please…read morefeel free to stay away ;) I have an older dog who struggles to walk very far at all, but she loves to smell and hunt in the woods and brush. Patuxent Ponds Park had all of that in a little trail in a little park that was just the perfect tiny package for my darling pup. There are benches around a pond and it has pretty scenery... not sure what more you're looking for to relax in a park but I was definitely happy. Still, in the summer, the pond is just a bunch of still water and I imagine it is a mosquito and tick (if that's also a Maryland thing?) haven. But for winter and fall it is great. The path winds around to another part of the pond, the only bummer is it doesn't circle fully so you have to turn back around. Still, very pretty and calm. If I had to really come up with a complaint, it's that there is no garbage can. Had to bring both of my dogs' poop bags in the car with me and drive it up the road to the walking trail to get a garbage. Either way, I'll be back.

There is a second parking lot just a minute or two further away. Take in the surrounding waterscape and homes, enjoy the sailboats from the water's edge, or launch your kayak. Most of the trails are dirt from which you can see a variety of birds and waterfowl, flora, squirrels and an occasional deer. There is an overlook along the trail, seating and a covered pavilion. But the best part is that the park is on the other side of Dorsey road from the airport, and planes fly directly overhead as they are about to land or after they have taken off; it differs from time to time. Because they are so close to the runway, the planes are very low, so the kids get really excited. Our daughter loves to watch the planes. My only complant is that there is no swings in the playground, but you can go east on Dorsey 1.5 miles to Sawmill Creek Park where they have swings.

The park itself is very well kept and features a nice updated playground for kids to play on and has rubber mulch rather than wood chips so for that reason alone I appreciated it more. There is also a walking/bike path that goes back a ways and two "porta potties" that were kept relatively clean and had hand sanitizer available. Definitely a good place to occupy your kids for a little bit!

There's a nice trail (not long, but nice) and open fields with a jungle gym for the kiddies. I've learned a lot at this park and have been afforded much time to reflect and decompress while also meeting friendly people. The land for this park used to belong to a slave who was bequeathed it by the slaveowner. And on the grounds of the park was the grave of the slave with a little marker and sat under a tree with a little bench. So I'm walking the other day and the shit is just gone. Straight up - gone, razed, desaparecido??? It wasn't in a central location so it's not like by removing it you can now add another soccer field. I put in a call/email to Parks & Planning and have received no response. And I wonder did they just remove the marker? and leave the body in the ground? I'm not religious or anything, but that just doesn't seem right. Anyway, if you're looking for a nice little walking path, and open fields, or a picnic pavilion, Fairland Park will work nicely and does not attract degenerates. Just please, take your trash when you go. I'm tired of wrestling chicken bones out of of my dog's mouth. Oh, and one more thing. To black people (from a black person) and foreigners: you gotta get over this fear of dogs. It's simply ridiculous. If my dog was vicious, do you really think I would open myself up to a lawsuit by letting her off-leash? And even if you are afraid, stop passing your fears onto your children. Thank you.

There are a few unusual features (a tot-sized climbing boulder to get up to the slides) and a mini jungle-gym for smaller kids. All in all, a wonderful location and a great place to let kids work off some steam before dinner. I spent a little time here with my daughter before heading to the tail end of a bridal shower. It wasn't child (or husband) appropriate, but her great-aunts and 1st cousins once removed (yes, I had to look that up) wanted to see her - so we had to entertain ourselves for a little while. She was able to wander around and climb on things without ruining her dress, and even did a few times down the slides. The older girls (elementary to middle school) were running around playing a game called gravel, but they were nice about giving her space. (the game is similar to marco-polo, but you call out gravel if someone is on the ground. The girls didn't actually know what gravel meant, or why you yelled it if someone was one the ground. The ground was covered in mulch, and I suppose yelling "MULCH" isn't as fun, but they could have said "Ground" as easily, but first they would have had to figure out what Gravel was, or had someone tell them. I didn't and neither did any of the parents either... so they played Gravel on the Mulch.) So we had a good time until she got a pouch for a snack from the bag and she poured it all over her dress minutes before I was supposed to leave for the party. it's not the playground's fault, so I won't dock any stars. Great place all around.

I love how there is a big kid playground and one for smaller kids as well. The park is almost entirely shaded which is nice in the summer months.
