I arranged childcare and missed work for this appointment. When I arrived, the front desk staff (not the person who booked me) realized there had been no communication about needing to wash and blow-dry my hair before braiding. I explained that Nancy had never informed me of this, and thankfully the front desk kindly honored the original quoted price. After my hair was washed and blow-dried by Christina, we were about to start braiding when Nancy stormed in and abruptly demanded that the service stop until I paid extra for the wash and blow dry. She was loud, rude, and dismissive -- even putting her hand in my face when I tried to explain the miscommunication. She told me not to speak because she was "talking to her student, not me." She then touched my hair and began making discriminatory comments about its length and thickness, saying that it would "cost more" but refusing to give me an exact price. Instead of resolving the issue, she escalated it, argued, and ultimately instructed the student to stop the service entirely. When I asked for her supervisor, she claimed she was the boss and the supervisor, blocking any accountability -- until I insisted and was finally able to speak to the actual administrator, who was kind and understanding. This unnecessary conflict wasted 25 minutes of my appointment, leaving the students pressed for time and forcing my service to be cut down to 2 braids instead of the 4 I had booked. I want to be clear: the students and instructors were professional, kind, and compassionate throughout this. The only problem was Nancy Lopez. Her behavior was unprofessional, hostile, and completely unacceptable in an educational or customer-facing environment. I will be reporting her to the board for her conduct. If you book services here, please know the students are talented and respectful, but the administration -- at least under Nancy Lopez -- is another story.

I mean looks the same as the $160 pedicure I get somewhere else. Go Jasmine. I also got to see and cheer for 3 students graduating while I was there. They get to walk and ring a bell, and all of their family and friends were there with balloons and flowers. Really exciting. Back to the pedicure, Jasmine was extremely detailed oriented and kept checking to see how the water temperature and how I was doing overall. Bebe would consistently come over to check on the process of give any necessary tips. You can tell Jasmine felt really comfortable with BeBe because if she has a question she'd ask. She really only had one question, and it was during the gel removal process from my previous gel pedicure. Overall, I got a gel pedicure with gel removal, callus remover, and paraffin wax for like $28. Don't not come here, if you are going to have an attitude or be rude/impatient. The services may take longer because they are students that are learning. Be kind, encouraging, and relax. :). There is no option to tip as the front desk (you pay before services); so, I would highly encourage you to bring cash and tip. Unfortunately, I did not know this detail and was not able to tip Jasmine for her great service.

Additionally the teacher was in class and not supervising their work. I was not happy when I left. But today I was

I was reminiscing today about my prior time in LA and remembered needing to review this place…read morebecause it's actually GREAT. This little beauty academy located in little Tokyo is where I used to go to get my Japanese straightening treatments done! I had waist length 3c curly hair so the first time they did the Japanese straightening it took 4 hours and two hair stylists - one of whom was Yasuko. I'm sure she's long gone having graduated but she was fabulous and so sweet! She and her co-stylist took really good care of me that day. And because it's a styling school the prices are lower: my Japanese treatment had only cost $100. I attached a pic of the result -- QUITE successful! I went back 2-3 more times after to get my roots done as they grew out curly of course, but after about 2 years of rocking pin straight hair I decided to stop treatments. I now have super short curly hair because the Japanese straightening treatments are permanent of course - the only way to get back to curly is to cut it off once the treatment has been done~ but that is what I wanted at the time! The one thing I do want to comment on is accessibility of this place: it's about as far east in LA as you can get. I lived near UCLA on the west side and didn't have a car, so I used to take the bus to get here and the ride was almost an hour, and lands you in a not-so-nice spot in East LA which is a short walk from the beauty school. Just be mindful of that if you're in a similar situation... I used to always plan the hair treatments early on Saturdays so it was light out both coming and going from the salon. While the outside area isn't very nice though, inside the salon is quite modern! It did strike me as a school though, there were lots of hair tools/products all over. But nevertheless, everything was clean. Overall absolutely recommend getting your hair done here, the staff/students do a really good job and you can get treatments cheaper than at an established salon!

So I made an appointment for phase 2 students since I saw some interesting reviews on Yelp about the phase 1's services. The problem started when I arrived there was no available phase 2 student though I made the appointment prior. I was asked to get phase 1 student instead and now I know I should've declined but I wasn't thinking much and just giving a try though it was bit menacing. Now my hair looks like a sad gloster canary(the bird with a bang). And the worst thing is since it's too short there's no way to fix this for few weeks till my hair gets long enough to do something while I'm teaching kids. I'm gonna be extra roasted like an espresso blend I wouldn't have minded lack of skillsets if least the direction was ok but my new 'hairstyle' isn't matching my reference at all except being short overall. (btw it was photos of myself with former haircuts that I liked and I told them I want that hairstyles) I understand they're still learning and not familiar with asian hairstyles but I hope if there's someone supervising before thing gets pretty weird - I knew I'd get what I paid for but now I'm looking for wigs and hats so be aware of the lowest point you could possibly get. The place itself was nice and clean street parking was fairly fine since it was weekday morning. People were really nice too. Just my hair got chopped making me looking like some supreme leader but yeah.
