I arranged childcare and missed work for this appointment. When I arrived, the front desk staff (not the person who booked me) realized there had been no communication about needing to wash and blow-dry my hair before braiding. I explained that Nancy had never informed me of this, and thankfully the front desk kindly honored the original quoted price. After my hair was washed and blow-dried by Christina, we were about to start braiding when Nancy stormed in and abruptly demanded that the service stop until I paid extra for the wash and blow dry. She was loud, rude, and dismissive -- even putting her hand in my face when I tried to explain the miscommunication. She told me not to speak because she was "talking to her student, not me." She then touched my hair and began making discriminatory comments about its length and thickness, saying that it would "cost more" but refusing to give me an exact price. Instead of resolving the issue, she escalated it, argued, and ultimately instructed the student to stop the service entirely. When I asked for her supervisor, she claimed she was the boss and the supervisor, blocking any accountability -- until I insisted and was finally able to speak to the actual administrator, who was kind and understanding. This unnecessary conflict wasted 25 minutes of my appointment, leaving the students pressed for time and forcing my service to be cut down to 2 braids instead of the 4 I had booked. I want to be clear: the students and instructors were professional, kind, and compassionate throughout this. The only problem was Nancy Lopez. Her behavior was unprofessional, hostile, and completely unacceptable in an educational or customer-facing environment. I will be reporting her to the board for her conduct. If you book services here, please know the students are talented and respectful, but the administration -- at least under Nancy Lopez -- is another story.

I was reminiscing today about my prior time in LA and remembered needing to review this place…read morebecause it's actually GREAT. This little beauty academy located in little Tokyo is where I used to go to get my Japanese straightening treatments done! I had waist length 3c curly hair so the first time they did the Japanese straightening it took 4 hours and two hair stylists - one of whom was Yasuko. I'm sure she's long gone having graduated but she was fabulous and so sweet! She and her co-stylist took really good care of me that day. And because it's a styling school the prices are lower: my Japanese treatment had only cost $100. I attached a pic of the result -- QUITE successful! I went back 2-3 more times after to get my roots done as they grew out curly of course, but after about 2 years of rocking pin straight hair I decided to stop treatments. I now have super short curly hair because the Japanese straightening treatments are permanent of course - the only way to get back to curly is to cut it off once the treatment has been done~ but that is what I wanted at the time! The one thing I do want to comment on is accessibility of this place: it's about as far east in LA as you can get. I lived near UCLA on the west side and didn't have a car, so I used to take the bus to get here and the ride was almost an hour, and lands you in a not-so-nice spot in East LA which is a short walk from the beauty school. Just be mindful of that if you're in a similar situation... I used to always plan the hair treatments early on Saturdays so it was light out both coming and going from the salon. While the outside area isn't very nice though, inside the salon is quite modern! It did strike me as a school though, there were lots of hair tools/products all over. But nevertheless, everything was clean. Overall absolutely recommend getting your hair done here, the staff/students do a really good job and you can get treatments cheaper than at an established salon!

So I stood there waiting about 15 minutes behind two other people, thinking that was the system. Finally I asked how to get a haircut and was told I needed to put my name and number down. At that point it was already 1:30. At 2:40 the manager and owner, Tim Nguyen, came downstairs and told me, "Yeah I think we'll be able to see you. Just wait." He also said that people typically have to sign in by 9 AM, but that it would be okay for me and someone would see me. Fast forward to 2:50, I checked again and asked if I was still going to be able to get a haircut. I was then told no. Apparently the students they thought were available had decided to leave. So I basically wasted an hour and a half for nothing. When I asked if they take appointments, I was told they do not. But when I walked outside and looked at their A frame advertisement, it clearly said "Walk ins welcome and appointments encouraged." That makes zero sense. If I could rate this place negative stars, I would.

Overall, such a relaxing and heartwarming experience, highly recommend!

I have been debating about making this review all week. I really had mixed feelings. I want to give…read morean honest review so people can be happy with there service 100%. I found them through offer up and saw they offered classic lash extension course for $500, the two women teaching the class were very nice and I can not say other wise. However, I find them unfit and not prepared to teach an eyelash course. The "salon" is in a terrible area, very hot and not so sanitary. Also, they do not have the materials needed to hold a functioning class. The class was set to begin at 9 A.M didn't begin until an hour after. The lash tech owner of damedelash and tas makeup academy were the one running the class. Yet, felt as if she was reading through the packet not going much in detail. Occasionally, asked if anyone had any questions. Practically, stuff you could find on YouTube. The demonstration was a quick 5 mins demonstration on how to apply an individual eyelashes. We took longer on how to clean the eyelash when removing them than actually applying the lash. Had no clear view or led light to actually see her applying the lash. My kit was incomplete...Both ladies started the new students on actual people that we brought in ourselves. However, if you are a beginner like I am. You can not start on an actual persons lashes with out trying it out on a mannequin first to get the technique down. Ladies, we are working with a glue similar to crazy glue and sharp tweezers near an eye area anything that goes wrong can be very hazardous and affect the persons vision. Both ladies are very nice and respectful however, being nice is not going to get someone to learn the technique. Not worth $500 or your time. Yes, you can ask questions but, when the ones teaching the class are running a conversation by the desk area is rude and in my perspective just in it for a quick buck... I thought they would be walking around assisting the whole time. Seeing if the student makes errors to correct and demonstrate why we shouldn't do that. But, that's did not happen. Maybe in the future when they are more developed they could run a class but at the moment they are not. Feel horrible giving my honest opinion but many girls need to know before going to attend this course. Rather pay $700 elsewhere before taking the course with them. Don't waste your money girls do research ahead of time. Especially, if you are a beginner like myself. I thought I would fall in love with lashing however, this course made me hate it. Giving them 1 stars cause the girls were nice and respectful.

Veronica was not only extremely professional, she was helpful, articulate and VERY detailed in her instruction. I'm practicing and I look forward to going back for a master class. I really recommend this place.
