After 4 teleconference sessions Heather stopped responding to emails and phone calls. Several times across multiple weeks and months we tried reaching out to Heather and to Coastal Virginia Counseling with no response. I even had my personal therapist attempt to reach out professionally and no response was received. A professional therapist ghosting clients in need is one of the most unprofessional things I have ever seen in therapy. Other people have posted positive reviews for this agency so I have to imagine other therapists are more professional but I would strongly advise doing your homework on your potential therapist before accepting therapists with this organization before you place your hopes in receiving therapy.

It was not until learning about Waves, and the trauma-informed therapists, that we finally saw progress. Neurofeedback therapy was a life saver for one of my kids, and then we started doing EMDR. Just about the time we started EMDR, our therapist, Heather, became trained in Flash EMDR. it is the most amazing, non-invasive approach to dealing with past trauma. Heather and her partner, Kime train other therapists in this miracle procedure, and it cannot happen fast enough. Every person with trauma in their background will benefit from this new form of EMDR. Why? Because instead of reliving and digging up the old trauma, it can be dealt with in a passive manner. I'm not kidding when I say this was and is a miracle for our family. This technique has become so successful that this practice has added quite a few new therapists. We are on the third family member being healed through this practice.

It sounds cheesy, but it's true that she has such a familiarity that feels like talking to an old friend. She never sugar coated or "babied" us. Her objectivity was always fair and held us accountable. We were never judged for anything we said and she always met us where we were in each session. We also loved the exercises that she gave us to take what we learn in sessions and apply them, in practice, at home. Even though we were sometimes sluggish about completing them, she never made us feel bad about it while still holding us accountable. We would still be with Dr. April if we did not move out of her practicing jurisdiction. We cannot thank her enough for her work with us. During our sessions Dr. McDowell made us feel very comfortable and provided useful advice to us. She was also very flexible with us based on what we wanted to get out of the sessions. Desk staff is horrific!!…read more Can't ever get a hold of your doctor. The message to me was just try to be "extra nice" to them! Multiple urine samples with PII, license and insurance documents left in bathroom. When you submit a urine sample there is just shoulder shrugging of when you will receive results meanwhile you are just on standby waiting for your prescription because the care is ZERO! Horrible! They count on the fact that you need them, they don't need you! Don't waste your time!

If I could give ZERO as a rating I would. I have formally reported this business to the BBB. They are unsanitary, allow other patient's samples to remain in the restrooms for who knows how long as other patients walk in, see the sample along with your PII/PHI. This is a security risk as well. The front desk personnel are atrocious and you will not be able to reach your prescriber. When you leave messages with the front desk, you have a 25% chance that you may reach your doctor. Doctor either doesn't get the messages or doesn't return your calls. This is a MEDICAL facility. Your information, PII, and PHI should be protected. Especially from an auditors standpoint, and this will also be reported. Unsanitary, security risk, and absolutely abhorrent staff. Definitely do not go here.
