I've suffered from cystic acne my whole teen/adult life (SUPER bad in my 20's). I just turned 36 and have also been noticing lines and puffy/saggy skin under my eyes which made me look haggard and tired. Yuck! So, never having done a facial before, I decided to try it. After my first facial my skin was red and angry (stayed home that day) but it was like magic the next day! My acne and redness was nearly gone! I then decided to try the 6 session LED treatment. Well, after 1 facial, 6 LED, and 1 micro current treatment I feel 28 again!!!!! Mind.....blown. I wish I'd started taking better treatment of my skin years ago! I have always regularly worn sunscreen but, after a consultation with Jackie, I learned that a lot of what I was putting on my skin was making things worse. KISS (keep it simple, sexy!) If there was a -5 star review option, that is what I would choose. I went into this place, pretty desperate for a facial. I don't have severe acne, I have some millea and blackhead issues. But on this day, I felt it was more than usual. So I called around Oakland, and found this salon was the only one with an opening. They recommended the "Fire and Ice" treatment. Sounded great to me after reading about it and said it leaves your face "red carpet ready" no downtime, no healtime, which is exactly what I wanted. I went in for the treatment, the woman, her name is Jackie, didn't even wash my makeup off before applying gels and ointments. I thought this was strange right from the get go. She eventually applied the "Fire" ointment. Described on the website as a light "tingle". More like a torch to the face. I immediately felt this amount of pain was abnormal. I told Jackie it hurt, she said it was normal, so I sat with the pain. I needed this washed off immediately. After it was washed off everything burned, to an extreme. Long story short, I'm suffering 1st and 2nd degree burns on my face from the treatment. I plan on filing a report with the health department, and I'm seeing a real doctor tomorrow. I could scar from the damage done to my skin. Words cannot describe how upset I am from all of this. Please look at the pictures below, before and after. read more

I'm writing a review for my experience with Allison! I've now had two hydrafacials with her, and I just wanted to talk about what I enjoyed. Allison was very patient and gentle with me. I have sensitive skin, and over the years have had issues with facials that strip my skin too much. Allison was very thorough, getting rid of all my underlying blackheads and pimples, but when I left my skin was not bright red. In the days after, I have noticed how clear and bright my skin is. My problem areas are still being addressed but Alex is so sweet and does her absolute best to explain everything and tailor the treatments as best fits the clients needs. This place is very underrated! One thing for sure is they have a very welcoming and elegant environment. I had a consultation for laser hair removal and acne treatment. After 5 different consultations from other places I found Elyssium to be "the one". They are very professional, honest and friendly-which is exactly what I was looking for. I started my laser hair removal treatment recently (thick course-rapid growing hair)and look forward to the end result. I will give an update in the next few months. Hydrafacial by Allison (esthetician) The day of my consultation I got their signature hydra-facial. I've never had a facial but I knew I really needed one. I have oily, acne prone, peach fuzzy, full of blackheads type of skin-I was even going through a terrible episode with my cystic acne. Allison actually guided me through the whole thing, she taught me a lot about the products I use and encouraged me to be more proactive about caring for my skin and body. I was pleased when she told me I can email the team if I have any questions about my skin care routine. I probably won't, but I do appreciate that open invitation. I really didn't feel pressured to purchase or fake a treatment plan I'm just happy I moved forward with them. It's been two weeks since my facial and immediately my episode of cystic acne "went away". I decided to move forward with a package to commit to giving the treatment my skin deserves. I'll take before and after pictures once I'm done. I've started with the 3 month membership. February-April , so check back for my results(: Also I wanted to add an FYI -they charge a $25.00 consultant fee which is reasonable. I have been going here for nearly a year, Jackie since day one! She is thoughtful, professional, and always uses caution. She got my skin perfect for my big day! Their practice is a medical spa, so do your research! You cant just dive into any treatment, your skin takes time to adjust to new products/treatments and it takes more than one visit to see drastic results. Also if you are going in for a treatment I suggest coming in with no makeup (since your face is being washed). Prices seam fair but again save for this because its worth it! read more

You've been in that situation, right? Where a restaurant has a small number of reviews but most of them are all 5 stars with a smattering of bad reviews and you think why don't we try it out? Why the 1 star horrible reviews and then 5 star reviews that seem to be describing two different places? You get there and there are lipstick stains on the silverware and stuff floating in the water glass and the food is priced like the upscale joint you usually go to and the fish tastes like it's been out for a while...yeah Elyssium is like that. Situation: I felt like getting a nice relaxing facial with targeted treatment, the places I usually go to were all booked up on Monday and I got a same day appointment with Allison for a 60 min micro-current facial for $160. She started 5 min late and she wanted to sell me services so we spent time doing that. I disrobed into a used gown and the white headband smelled like sweat and was stained brownish...should I have walked out? Stupid of me I thought-Not yet. Next was time for the steam and hot wet towel on my face that smelled like...I can only explain it this way-a woman put cheap coco butter cream in her hair and wrapped it in a head scarf and then in 90 degree weather decided to go for a jog, dip that scarf in hot water and that's the smell I got. She used three different towels that all smelled this way and roughly wiped away the gel used for the micro-current. Disgusting. Now I'm envisioning all the bacterial growth on my face and eyes. And the towel wiping was abrasive on skin. Now the micro current session, the machine kept loudly beeping and oh it's because you've never had two clients in a row need microcurrent? Odd reason but I don't want apologies just fix the problem. She went over one side of the face all of 6 times talking in between because she was fiddling with the settings of the machine. After 10 min that part was over. She left me 10 or less min for the LED session and the goggles weren't sanitized because they smelled like sweat. Then suddenly a loud beeping alarm from some machine...she runs back into the room saying how she heard it from the lobby and apologized...ok good that you heard it and came running in and I'm surprised you did because of all the hootin' and hollering from staff outside the room. I came in and was told I had great skin, now I'm home and see irritation and raised little bumps as if a rug burn...never seen this before not even when I was on retinol. Then no massage, no serum, no ampule, just a strong handed BB cream application of a facial that lasted no more than 45 min and I was asked to pay basically the same or near same price as my usual go tos. I don't even know where to begin and end. This year alone I've gotten 8 facials (at 5 different places in the Bay Area) and bought a 4 series PRP micropen treatment at a wonderful med spa. I've not seen this kind of lack of care put into a service. I got home and wiped my face down with alcohol astringent before taking a shower. Unbelievable. **Might I offer other suggestions: Skinspirit in SF or Walnut Creek, Senspa, Neptune- Oakland, Beau facial (with Kai) Oakland, Isabelle Gerard Skincare Oakland (prices are less than here and she books up a month in advance), Urban Temple Facial Oakland, Nob Hill Spa, Gentle star Med spa, Studio Abasi, Spa Radiance, any other place that had a solid number of good to medium good reviews with knowledgeable staff who are trained to provide top notch service instead of the ridiculously novice treatment I received. Edit: just because you say your policy is to disinfect and change linens and don't add scent to towels doesn't mean the "policy" was followed, right? Also, what does it matter if you say you don't add scents to towels. My problem wasn't that I thought you did. If it smelled like clean lavender etc I'd be happy, but no it had a disgusting stench. It was a joke of a treatment I received. Let's end it at that. read more

I've gone for laser and facials, and a few times the people performing these didn't know answers to my questions. They would tell me "This procedure works by doing this" and I'd ask why or how, and they didn't know, or gave a super general answer that didn't actually answer my question. I got the impression they memorized the correct answers or description to things, without forming any deeper knowledge. One didn't know if there was an active ingredient in a sunscreen she tried to sell me, despite saying it was a redness reducer. read more

Really like everyone at this place. They are kind, and real and they don't push packages. Yes, they go over the packages with you (I have had laser here, they were excellent) and they reminded me that I would need to purchase by the second visit. I chose not to. I recently had a hydrafacial done by Katy and Georgina and have never been happier with how my skin feels. I have combination skin and have never had a facial done before, but it's been about a week since I went in and I have no black heads, or acne. They even treated the inactive blemishes I had. The scarring/discoloration I had from sun exposure or simply from acne scarring is completely faded. I highly reccomend this facial if you have an event or special occasion and want your skin to glow. I have received so many compliments since receiving the treatment and my co-workers noticed right away that my skin just looked refreshed. The staff was beyond friendly and professional and the facility looks like something out of a magazine. Parking was convenient (this is a big deal if you know how hard it can be in Oakland) I honestly can't wait to go back and try some of the other treatments. At the time I was extremely upset and frustrated by the whole experience... so .. makes sense. Although i would still advise to be cautious and make sure you completely understand what you will be paying + what treatment you will be receiving when you come in for your appointment (even if you had a consultation prior) because there seems to be a slight communication issue between some of the staff. Did jessner chemical peel two months ago for my bad skin texture. I was made clear that the skin won't be magically good after this but I didn't know I paid around $370 for the procedure and some kits to worsen my skin texture and have a big dark pigmentation on my left cheek. And yes, I avoided sun by not stepping outta home for one whole week. There has been no carelessness from my side at all. So If u don't wanna pay to ruin your skin, don't do chemical peel here. I drive from the South Bay because Ellysium is the best professional and affordable high end skin care facility that I have gone to.
