Spent 3 nights in a fantastic room with a great location,walking distance to downtown. Spotlessly clean room, comfortable and well equipped. The owners personality greeted us and went above and beyond in helping us with everything we needed. Weather rolled in our checkout day and all flights out were cancelled. Even the 4 ferry runs back to the mainland were turning away 30 plus passengers at a time. We called Vic and he came to our rescue, got one of the last rooms available ready for us to spend one more night. Again, can not recommend Emerald Island Inn enough! read more

We arrived at the North Marina by boat and were picked up by Vic and shuttled to the hotel. Immaculately clean rooms, great location right in town, and the friendliest and most accommodating owner/managers you'll ever meet. Emerald Island Inn will be our choice whenever we visit Beaver Island. Recommended. read more

Nice clean room, king bed was comfy. Bathroom was clean and shower had solid pressure and got hot fast. The room was a little warm when I entered but I popped on the remote-controlled AC and it cooled it off quickly. Great location near town. A short walk to restaurants, shops, library, ferry dock, and shoreline - including the island's only formal beach. I understand the owners are somewhat new - they were very friendly and attentive. Will definitely come back. This is my new go-to hotel on the island. read more

First, what I liked: it's within 5 minutes walk of the harbor, a nice cream shop, the public beach, and a fantastic Irish pub. Most important, it was clean, which is about all I really care about. Each room is quite large--2 bedrooms plus a living room and kitchenette. The price was ok: $155, which is pretty decent for a relatively new (2000) motel in a place with a 3- or 4-month travel season. Bob, the elderly owner, comes to the ferry dock to pick you up! Now, what wasn't so great: no A/C at all...pretty sticky when we were there. Room didn't get cleaned or even checked after our first night. Shower has plenty of hot water, but water pressure was poor. All in all, I would be willing to stay here again, but I'll look elsewhere first. read more

We called in January and booked 3 apartments for our Sept girls weekend. When we arrived last Friday, the hotel was locked. No note on the door. When I called he said he closed and left the island a few days ago, and thought he had called everyone with a reservation to cancel. Our group of 8 women then had to scramble to find lodging for the weekend at 4pm on a Friday. Thank goodness we went to Harbor View Motel, and the very nice woman there got us into 3 rooms. I'm still waiting on my refund from Emerald Isle. Very disappointing! read more

Quaint and charming Hotel (Inn). The location is great (1 block off the main road near the water). The owner (Bill) is very helpful and a wealth of knowledge about the island. Bill will take you anywhere you need to go (airport, restaurant, etc). Everything is only 5ish miles apart, at most. The room itself was simple and clean. No AC but maybe that is normal in this part of the country? The room had fans, and it cooled off at night, so we didnt have any trouble sleeping. The room and bathroom is a little dated (imagine a nice Holiday Inn circa 2001). Shower has low water pressure (but this is my complain about most hotels, admittedly). Overall, 4 stars instead of 5 b/c of it being a bit dated, but no major complaints or issues. The island overall is lovely and serene, and everyone is very friendly and relaxed. read more

I would not recommend this hotel. We recently had a large block of rooms reserved for family and friends to attend a wedding in the Island. There were numerous issues encountered with several of the guest. One family had to be relocated because the owner scheduled them for June 7 arrival, instead of July 7 arrival...even though they were in the block of reservations for a July 8 wedding. One family were double charged on their credit card. Two families believe their rooms were entered while away. One family was not provided a key to their room (key was taken by previous occupant). Hotel front desk is not occupied after hours. If you need linens or other service, there is no one to contact. Our 2 room apartment had no towels, wash clothes, linens for futon. We had to track down a housekeeper to get supplies. We were supposed to be picked up at the dock, but the driver left with first arrivals before we exited the ferry. We walked to the hotel. Owner/operator seems confused and unorganized. Look for a different hotel if you can. read more

Found out that there was a $55 cancellation fee for all reservations. I wish this had been clearly stated when I made the reservation. I was told by the owner that charge was the total cost of making and cancelling reservation with a credit card. Bummed because we do really like the hotel, but plans always change and I wish there were no charges. read more

OK. I read the other review and I can only imagine that improvements have since been made. I just returned from the island and what a great time! I have lived in Michigan for 20 years and NEVER even heard of this place! What a great vacation spot for the whole family. The owner of the hotel took us to the ferry boat and the room was clean and very quiet. The location was perfect! A walk to the beach and Main street. Fridge, microwave, oven, stove... everything you need at a decent price! read more

We made a last minute reservation and the owner picked us up at the ferry. The place is very nicely decorated and very clean. I don't know how anyone that didn't stay here can write a relevant review. We didn't read the review until we decided to write one of our own. I would say the negative review was posted by someone with issues. The owner offered to take us anyplace that wasn't within walking distance, called the rental car for us and then let us use his washing machine. We didn't get detergent before the store closed so he gave us some. Yes the place is for sale, but he's an older gentleman wanting to sell and spend all his time with his wife in Florida. We heard his story and we understand. If you are looking for a nice place close to town and the ferry, look no further this place has everything you will need. read more

The location is great. The owner is fabulous. He picked us up at the airport took us back to airport. The owner will take u any where u want to go. The hotel has been updated. It's nice and clean. Our room has kitchen living room and two bed room. When we come back we will stay here again. read more

No- just...no. We considered staying here, but chose to camp at St James campground for a week instead. We found out that the hotel offers showers for campers for 10.00 per person so we thought it would be a good way to check the place out for future visits. There are 2 showers in the basement for campers and we found both to be absolutely disgusting. Neither were clean and both were in disrepair. One has a hole in the wall and had someone else's old nasty shampoo bottles and razors in it. The other smelled bad and the mirror is cracked almost in half. This place looks ok from the outside, but when you enter, you first see very old rippling carpeting in the hallway and the upper windows in the front showed a bunch of junk- looked to be a giant storage area and a huge eyesore. The topper was that as we left we noticed the "for sale" sign in the yard. Unless someone who cares about giving this place a complete update I would seriously consider somewhere else to stay. We didn't even get into the rooms and were very turned off. read more
