Stay away from this practice. The front desk treats patients awful and the doctor is not much better, all they care about is money. I had to cancel my appointment due to having a fever, runny nose, cough and sore throat. I was told that I either come in to have my tooth removed or I would be charged $200. I obviously didn't want to be charged a $200 fee so I come in for my appointment which started at 1:15 and I assumed that once the dentist saw the condition I was in he would be understanding and let me reschedule. When I arrived at the office the front desk girl asked me if I had a doctors note to excuse me from making this appointment. I've never heard of such a thing.. A doctors note to excuse me from another doctors appointment? I told the front desk girl I did not have a note but I told her I could get one. She told me "that would help". I had an entire telehealth appointment while waiting for my appointment to start which again was supposed to be at 1:15. By the time my telehealth appointment was over it was 2:00. I went back inside and told the front desk girl I had a doctors note for her. She said I can email it to her but that's not going to excuse the $200 fee and she would need to get the doctors approval to waive the fee. After I sent the excuse note to her I asked how much longer the wait would be and she told me that he is in surgery. I waited another 45 minutes before I asked again how much longer until my appointment would start. She said that the doctor is still in surgery and that she spoke to him and I have 3 options. Either I give her $270 to get my tooth removed, give her $200 to reschedule my appointment or I never come back to this practice again. I was not able to speak to the doctor and the front desk girl would not tell me how much longer I would have to wait before I could be seen for the appointment, I was not allowed to cancel, that started at 1:15. It was clear to me that the reason why I hadn't been seen is because she filled my appointment with a different patient assuming I would just pay the $200 fee. I felt like I was not treated like a human. Zero aloha and complete disregard for my health, purely just a business transaction. I hope this review helps others to avoid this place. read more

My wife needed an extraction of an abscessed tooth. Dr Russell handled it the same day as the consultation . The staff was great and very professional. I cannot recommend Dr Russell more highly. As visitors to this beautiful island, we could not have been luckier than to be referred to him for this procedure. read more

The start of my first and last visit to Dr. Russell's office his receptionist gave me a half hour video to watch to tell me about the implant procedure. A periodontist I met with in Oahu sat with me to discuss what to expect. I wanted to have the least amount of X-rays possible. I suggested Dr. Russell check with my dentist in Lihue to see if the X-rays required were already taken. The receptionist tried to phone my Dentist and said she left a voice mail. Without even looking at me Dr. Russell said SO ALL PATIENTS IN THE LOBBY COULD HEAR: "Dr. xxxxx office rarely responds in a timely manner to any voice mails we leave. (That was NOT my experience with my dentist!) I will be taking the X-Rays I need." He was curt and demeaning. When I made the same request to the Periodontist in Oahu they phoned my dentist in Lihue and were told what their Lihue office had. The Perio staff in Oahu simply told my Dentist what additional X-Rays were needed. I mentioned I was concerned about how many flights would be necessary if I'm seen in Oahu. The Perio in Oahu explained only two: to remove your teeth and install the three implants. "All other follow ups can be handled by your Lihue Dentist. I've worked with him many times and he is highly competent." Another point that troubled me was Dr. Russell's receptionist told me: "When we send a pharmacist your prescriptions we recommend you don't use the xxxx pharmacy. They rarely have what we prescribe." Dr. Russell's publicly denigrating one of his colleagues and his staff denigrating a local pharmacy where ALL IN THE LOBBY COULD OVERHEAR THEM told me to thank them for their time and walk out to never to return. I just completed having three implants done in Oahu and was so grateful I did not have to work with Dr. Russell and his staff. read more

Disclaimer: This review was written while under the influence of pain medication I got 4 wisdom teeth removed, only one was impacted, and got the laughing gas. I could feel the pressure but there was no pain. The laughing gas made it feel like the world was fuzzy and dreamlike. The staff is very friendly and professional too! Overall a good experience. My only criticism is that I was given care instructions after surgery in which my listening and comprehension was at about 48%. All my wisdom was gone too so even more of a disadvantage. Here are some tips: 1. Do not listen to your favorite songs; you will forever be reminded of drilling when that song plays 2. If you want to keep your teeth tell them before the surgery starts 3. Learn a little sign language so you can communicate with your family while the numbing wears off. (Helpful words to learn: ice cream, shave ice, milk shake, soup) read more

Referred to Dr. Russell for TMJ . Xrays were taken. The explanation I received was informative and clear to understand. I was experiencing jaw pain for more than 6 months and wanted to consult with him and the visit was excellent. Medication was prescribed for pain and additional PT exercises. I walked away now knowing what to do with my jaw issue. He has a very good support staff. Thankfully, he's on Kauai and I didn't need to fly to Oahu to get this problem explained to me. Just updating this review as I realized it is not showing as a recommended review. My experience (and the experience of a few other "unrecommended" reviews) was so awful that I'm hoping this update will bump it up and help save other people from the oral trauma I experienced. This year I had my two other wisdom teeth removed from a much better oral surgeon in California and it was such an easy and pain free experience. When I told my surgeon about my experience with Dr. Russell, he was shocked that he would have kept me awake for such a complicated extraction (as one of the teeth removed was coming in sideways). Hopefully Kauai has better Oral surgeon options 4 years later. read more

Dr. Russell's office was very friendly and helpful from the front to the back staff. Dr. Russel was very patient and walked me through multiple options for my treatment plan, outweighing the pros and cons of each treatment plan. They were also able to get me in and schedule my surgery so that it fit my schedule in an effective time manner. Highly recommend this office! read more

This is my second round of dental implants by Dr. Russell. Each experience has been as painless as possible. He and his staff are very professional, and they take the time to answer any and all questions that are put forth. My personal experience with Dr. Russell has been amazing. At my age (72) I have lots of experiences with all dental professionals, not only will he be available when you need him, he'll eveb takes emergency calls on a Sunday Morning when I tracked him at his home. I broke a molar off at the gum line and my regular dentist recommended Dr. Russell. I have always been a bit apprehensive about going in for any type of dental work, however I feel Dr. Russell did an outstanding job in implanting a post in my upper jaw. I returned to my regular dentist who fitted a porcelain molar on the post. Dr. Russell has a great way of dealing with his patients. My daughter went in for five teeth to be extracted. Anesthesia options were not adequately explained and she spent the whole procedure crying, which we could hear from the waiting room. Only two teeth were removed instead of five, meaning my daughter has to go through the trauma of another surgery and recovery. Dr. Russell was very rude to us and raised his voice with us when we told him we were upset. He then blamed my daughter's ADHD for her response, despite him instructing her not to take her medication that morning. His to our complaint was "at least she's alive and breathing." It was a very upsetting experience and I will never recommend his office for anything. read more

i had my top wisdom teeth extracted by dr. russell a few years back. unfortunately, there was a girl that came in for a dental emergency right before my appointment and i had to wait quite a while in the lobby. when he finally got me in the chair, he numbed me up with novocain and let it kick in. the entire extraction took about ten minutes. unbelievable!!! quick and painless. read more

I'm very pleased with Dr Russell and his staff. I had 3 wisdom teeth extracted (at 58 years old), and had no problems or pain. The team is very friendly and comforting. I only needed a Valium, nitrous oxide, and novacaine. They played a video beforehand so I would understand the process. Not so happy with my only visit with them(and not coming back). Check in was fast, the staff were friendly. Procedure (wisdom tooth extraction) were explained before the procedure. I was prepared to my chair as usual. The doctor was friendly at first. 1st anesthesia- it didn't help numb, I can still feel the pain. 2nd anesthesia-still can feel the pulling when they tried. The doctor said "You know I am not giving you saline(referring to the anesthesia)" then he laughed. I began to cry. I did not have any problems with my previous tooth extractions I told him, this is the first time I had a problem. Stayed there for a total of 3 hours, they tried to pull it again after another anesthesia.I can still feel the pain but tried to tolerate it as much as I can. I just want to leave. Nobody wanted to stay there for that long just for 1 wisdom tooth extraction. I left without thanking, I was so traumatized. I'll remember this all my life. :'c read more
