Not too sure where to leave Doctor feedback, but this seems like an option. My regular provider is Dr. Bernstein, I've seen her for my regular wellness visits and now through my pregnancy. She is great, she gets that I am an analytical to the point person and she is a good fit for me. We were encouraged to meet with a couple other providers during our check in visits, just encase Bernstein is not available during our labor. We met with Dr. Samuels and I can see why so many people in the valley appreciate him as a doctor. It was our visit with Dr. Santa Maria the other day that is feeling off. I'm writing the review so that people know that CMM does have good OB providers, I just would not recommend her. The visit started with her fat shaming me, saying it looks like I ate too much during Thanksgiving. That is not ok to say to a person really struggling with the pregnancy weight gain, I am trying my best and am still in a healthy range. Also, my appointments have been in the morning after a light breakfast, this one was later in the day. Of course the scale will be higher after eating and drinking all day. Comments like that from a DOCTOR are not healthy and can lead women to partake in unhealthy practices to avoid the weight gain shaming of a doctor. It is fair if there are legitimate concerns from a medical prespective, but to say looks like you have been eating too much is just awful. If you are a couple that does not want to know the sex, don't go to her! We do know, but she said oops did I reveal the gender (not a big deal to us, but I can't imagine how that could feel for another couple). Next, I had some concerns about pregnancy related issues that have escalated to become very uncomfortable. Every relief measure out there says if pregnant consult a doctor. Well, I was consulting a doctor! I was just hoping to hear, "For some patients when this arises x, y,z tends to provide relief and are safe while pregnant." Instead she replied with that's just pregnancy at altitude and will all be worth it when the bundle of joy arrives. Well, the BABY is not here yet and my sinuses are killing, what saline sprays do you recommend!? (I was not given a recommendation on any of my concerns). This interaction did not sit right with my partner or me. My sister's said the weight comment was extremely out of line. When my partner went back to work, his co-workers asked who we saw, when he told them we met with Dr Santa Maria, they said she has a reputation of fat shaming pregnant women over size four and being rude to unwed mother's. His reaction; I think that just happened to us. I write this, just encase you had an appointment with Dr. Santa Maria that didn't feel right; you are not alone. And if you are looking for an OB provider at CMM I would not recommend her, there are plenty of other good choices.

Now I have a delayed Perscription. I was told to start emailing the doctor with any questions that I have. So I started to email her. She does not check her emails and there is nothing to flag her to tell her if she has anything in her inbox. So I've gone 1 to 2 weeks without getting any responses. Dr. Miranda returned an early morning message that we left within an hour of us leaving it, even though it was a weekend and his office was not technically open for five more hours. We talked through her symptoms, history, treatment, and travel "what if's". We had medication shortly thereafter. A few years ago, I was seen here by Dr. Bowen while experiencing severe flu-like symptoms. I also had a bite on my arm that appeared a few days before I became very sick. I specifically showed him the bite and asked whether it could be related to my symptoms. His response was "No, I think you just have COVID. Go to City Market and get a test." I was then sent out the back door. Why he couldn't test me there I have no idea.... I followed his instructions, got tested elsewhere, and the result was negative. Dr. Bowen was rude, dismissive, and made me feel uncomfortable, as if my symptoms weren't valid or worth taking seriously. Over the years that followed, my health continued to decline. I became progressively sicker. It has since been confirmed that I have chronic Lyme disease. Luckily I had taken a photo of the bite and when I showed the physician who diagnosed me with Lyme the same bite I had shown Dr. Bowen that day, they confirmed it was consistent with a Lyme tick bite along with proper testing. Had this been properly evaluated at the time, my illness may have been caught early and treated before progressing into a chronic, life-altering condition. Instead, I am now living with a lifelong disease that could potentially have been prevented with appropriate medical attention. The dismissal of my symptoms and the failure to investigate a possible tick-borne illness had serious and lasting consequences for my health. I cannot believe this is my reality now. I hope this review encourages more thorough evaluations and genuinely patient-centered care in the future, because what I experienced here was dismissive, incompetent, and a complete failure of medical care.
