My poor pup pulled her claw out in the middle of the night and I did not notice until the following day. Called my regular vet and could not get in and the recommended 24 hour emergency Vet, EVCC. I immediately called and the person I spoke with told me to check in online. I did this and received a text message with a time to come in and when to leave based on my location which was helpful! The front desk staff was nice and explained the financial policy to me which I was already expecting. I was seen fairly quickly by the vet techs and they were kind and compassionate to my pup. The vet came in and saw my pup and gave a few medication options and explained that they should wrap the paw to keep out infection. They cleaned it, wrapped the paw and gave a bag to put around it for outside. Also, included a cone in case she would start to lick or bite the wrapping. Waited over 3 hours. My cat was on the way to a full urinary tract obstruction. They cleared the waiting room several times before they saw my cat. Told me wait would be long "2 hours". I waited over 3 hours. Doctor claimed "he wasn't obstructed when he got here". My cat was stuck suffering in his carrier the entire time getting worse. Went in to get stitches for my small dog with a sizable laceration. Sat in the exam room for about 20 mins. Assistant came took my dogs temp and weight and never even asked to see the cut?? No communciation on timing to see Vet tho both the tech and front desk were very diligent to let me know they will communciate the price before any procedures are done. Lot was empty, space seemed deserted and the lack of interest regarding my dogs injury told me to leave rather than wait and get overcharged. We brought our dog in because his entire eye was swollen. I called in advance and was told to bring him in. When we got there the receptionist was fine and kind. It did take an extremely long time to check in though and we were the only people in the waiting room. After we got a room we waited about an hour to be seen by a tech. The tech was extremely off putting. It seemed like she was not made aware that animals would be apart of the job. As a dog parent, worried about a potential emergency, it was upsetting to see her treat my dog like he was an inconvenience. I'm very aware he was excited (he loves the vet) and uncomfortable and all the things but this is a vet clinic? We waited about another hour to see the vet. It was fine with her but we got very off putting comments about our dogs's behavior (jumping- again, very excitable breed not to mention a puppy still) before she said anything at all about the reason we came in the first place. She then did a test on his eye and determined that it just needed some eye gel/Benadryl and she would get it ready for us. The tech came back with the medicine saying we needed to put it on when we got home and then every 8 hours after. Our dog was extremely compliant with all things eye related during the exam, it was curious to me that she just didn't put it on? We were charged about $250 for this and the receipt has no cost break down even though no care plan was discussed with us. We obviously would have consented to any treatment at all to help our dog, we aren't cheap when it comes to him, but it seems like something that is typically done. Maybe we're really lucky with our primary vet being friendly, a dog person, well spoken, explains everything, models, positively reinforces, etc. Overall- bad vibes. We will not be going back but in a pinch we really needed vet care and I suppose that's what we got. Also for consideration- this was around 7:00 and apparently at a shift change. Maybe staff in the afternoon/morning is better. At that rate though we would have just gone to our primary vet instead. read more

If you go here expect a long wait. I went there on a Sunday morning and had to wait a good hour. Very surprised at how busy they were. When I finally saw the vet no treatment was given, not even to clean the wound. Next an assistant came in with a treatment plan estimate of $1200. I refused it and took the pup to my hometown vet the next day. The total bill was $48. He cleaned the wound and prescribed antibiotics. read more

My boy, Eli, was experiencing Bloat. From the time I walked into the clinic, he was rushed back within 30 seconds, starting working on him and was in surgery within the hour. He is almost a 10 year old bloodhound and he is still with me today because of their fast acting and caring matter. I would highly recommend this clinic. We have been here a few times for both of our dogs and have always received excellent care. The staff is competent and caring, greeting us warmly when we have had to return. The vets are always top notch, often correctly diagnosing and addressing nuanced issues. Everyone is caring and compassionate with our dogs and us as well. I am impressed. Sometimes we have had to wait, while at other times we were seen first, always based on urgency. Their triage process is fair, and yes, sometimes they are busy, but always kind, attentive, and capable. I was worried when we moved here about finding a good emergency vet, but no more. We are so grateful to know they are close by if we need them, even if for a quick phone call and advice over the phone. Can't recommend them enough. read more

I have had the unfortunate need to use this place on several occasions over the last 5 years. In every case, I have found this place to be incredibly overpriced and the quality of care to be poor. I had to bring my dog here on Sunday due to a very large, very fast growing tumor on his face. They are still making people sit in cars in the parking lot due to Covid, which is ridiculous. No other places are doing this anymore. It is not easy to interact with a veterinarian when you are sitting in your car while your animal is inside. We were told after a biopsy that it was most likely cancer, which was horribly upsetting and hardly likely given the rate in which this tumor grew. The blood test showed zero issues within 30 minutes. Why not just wait until the blood test results came back before telling us he probably had cancer? The biopsy sample was sent to a pathology lab and we were told we would have our results back by Tuesday. It is now Friday and we have heard nothing. Zero. Who's fault is it? I'm not sure, but someone should be chasing down these results so I can be sure my dog doesn't have cancer. They prescribed a very weak antibiotic, which did nothing. We were charged over $500 for this nonsense. The next day the tumor was still growing so I took him to Hero Animal Hospital right down the street. I waited 5 minutes and walked right in. They did an ultrasound and immediately told us it was nearly 100% an abscess. They prescribed a strong antibiotic, which immediately started working. 2 days later and the abscess was 1/2 the size. Do yourself a favor and only go to this place if you have no other choice. I have heard the same from many other dog owners. Try Hero, which takes appointments and emergency walk-ins. They are 1/3rd the price and they know what they are doing. read more

I have had several past experiences that were very good. However, the staff has changed and I cannot say the same now. I took my 16-yr old dog in because she had fallen from a sofa and was limping. I called ahead and arrived about 15 minutes later. No one else was there - I was the only client. I was put in an exam room and I described my problem. A while later, a vet assistant came in to do triage. She excused herself because she needed to get a stethoscope. Then she excused herself to get a thermometer (and changed her mind, saying she would take my dog's temperature later). This is an emergency service... these things should be in each exam room or the vet assistant should bring them with her/him. After an hour of waiting, I asked the receptionist when I would see a vet. She said she would check and let me know. She never did. After a 2-hour wait, the vet came in. She did an exam, and insisted on doing blood work. I explained I had blood work done recently and could show her the results. She insisted it was necessary to repeat the blood work, as it could change suddenly. I finally acquiesced. It took another hour for blood results, which of course, showed nothing and were normal. It took 3-1/2 hours. My dog was not treated during this time, and she was in pain. When I inquired several times about the wait, I got the same explanation each time - how many people were waiting (no one was waiting when I initially got there) and how many animals were in the back being treated (by in-house vets, so this had no bearing on treating my dog). I was told I was the first one seen - at 10:30am. I said I had arrived at approximately 8:30am. They said the vet had to read my file. For 2 hours? Clearly the vet either arrived late or was doing something else. They should at least have come into the exam room periodically to update me. Although 3-1/2 hours was just too long. I did get medications which have helped, and I've since seen my regular vet. I would not recommend them, and I will go elsewhere in the future. read more

Took our goldendoodle to EVCC. Waited nearly five hours. Was told she had a heart condition and needed medication and would not live very long and her quality of life was not good. Two days later, we took our dog to a cardiologist who said there was NOTHING wrong with our dog. While we were there waiting for five hours, we heard three different families who brought their animals in and had them put down while we were there. We heard the families crying. Very sad. I wonder if that would have been us too if we had not decided to go elsewhere for another diagnosis. EVCC charged us $983 and refuses to refund our money for failure to diagnos properly or is it fraud? I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND YOU TAKE ANY PET THERE AT ALL read more

STAY AWAY! Brought my cat in due to her not eating for several days. After examination we received a best guess, an anti nausea injection and a $581 bill and was sent home. The next day when she still was not eating I called EVCC and they suggested an appetite stimulant (ELURA). I picked up the medication and administered it to her. A half hour later my cat is lethargic with a low heart rate. Called EVCC to ask about side effects of the medication and am told to return to EVCC. Several more hours, X-Rays another examination. The medications side effects are dismissed and I receive a very grim prognosis on her recovery and when I asked for my options it is suggested that due to her age and the sudden onset of the low heart rate I should consider euthanasia as the vet did not consider her stable enough to travel and felt it likely that she wouldn't make it through the night. Sadly, based on the information I was given, this is the option I chose. Second visit $787. A few days later I receive a call from my usual Vet and discuss what happened. She informs me that lowered heart rate is a known possible side effect of Elura, especially in an animal that is severely dehydrated (like one that hasn't eaten in days). It took my vet all of 5 minutes to find this information. I was at EVCC for several hours and had asked directly about the drug on multiple occasions only to have my concerns dismissed. Not only did I euthanize my companion of 15 years when she was likely treatable and now have to live with that fact, but I paid $1300 for the privilege thanks to this incompetence. Sadly, there is rarely time to read reviews when you are looking for emergency care but if you are lucky enough to come across this, look at other options for your pet. read more

I brought in my dog for emergency care and I paid this hospital over $700 for bloodwork and x-ray and they sent me home .... They told me my dog was fine Within 48 hours my dog wasn't better so I called them to follow up asking if I should bring them back in but that I had already paid over $700 and I wanted to see if that's taken into consideration as I thought he should be seen by the same hospital I took him to originally! They told me that I should find a veterinarian in other words since you already gave us your money don't come back here because it'll be a lot more money for us to take a second look at him even though we let him go and we told you he was OK!! What kind of veterinarian or hospital does that to an animal?? I see come back if you can give us another $700 otherwise go away and good luck? What a horrible cruel joke this place was so sorry that I ever went there... BTW they told me was fine and could do outpatient But he died less then 48 hrs later so I paid over $700 for a bad diagnosis and then was turned away for the follow up ? Never in a million years would i suggest this place to anyone. We brought our dog into this facility due to an infection that seemed urgent. The moment I walked in the door, the front desk lady, Ms.Gomez, was the rudest human I have ever encountered in my whole life. She talked to me like I was an idiot, all while trying to question me like I don't care for my animal. They take my dog back and right after she is sent back, some young girl comes up and asks "what's your dogs name and what's she here for?" 5 minutes after i sent her back.. You had one job.. We get into a room and are told my dog is stable, so she will be seen when possible, which i get. Finally seen by Dr. Lisa Polazzi, who told us it would be 3-4k to do the emergency spay and keep her over night. Keep in mind, they couldn't even remember who and what she was in for 5 minutes after bringing her to the back and I am supposed to be comfortable leaving my dog there over night... no thanks. We declined and decided to take her home to try to see our own vet first thing. We get our bill, and there was no charge for the ultrasound that was okayed for, YET our bill was $320+. They tried to cover their tracks with just charging whatever was felt. We got charged for an antibiotic $96+ to take home, we said we didn't want, then obviously changed our mind due to us taking our dog home, which they took off our bill then added them back and they came up as only $82.. weird. 1 week prior we were in to see the eye doctor there (who was great) and was charged $10 more for my dog to have an FULL PROCEDURE AND GO UNDER ANESTHESIA. how is that possible? We are not cheap when it comes to our dog. We have a bulldog and know she has health issues. We pay for NATIONWIDE for our animal knowing she has health issues and we know the cost and expenses that come with her breed. PNW TRIED TO CHEAT US OUT OF OUR MONEY JUST TO DO SO. And last but not least.. While trying to file our claim for our pet insurance, we needed medical records from the past year for our primary vet and now this visit. So we called in to get them and Dr. Lisa Polazzi decided THREE DAYS LATER she would write out about how much we complained about finances and how we became angry and argumentative over the cost, into our records just to show HAHA. Because they try to make it SO affordable for you but charge whatever they want. I took my dog to hobart and was charged a little under $1100 which is a HUGE difference in price and they were actually NICE. I would never ever sit here and complain but after seeing that someone would take the time to make us seem like the bad guys DAYS later blows my mind. This place was terrible and i would never trust them with my animal. If you can go else where, do so. read more

We are so grateful that we found this emergency vet. We are full time RVers but our home base is in upstate NY. Our 15 year old beagle started dying, his organs were shutting down from bladder cancer, right in front of us while at a campground about an hour away from this vet. It was around 1 AM and we had no clue what to do. We couldn't call our regular vet and it would take us 10 hours to drive there. We called here and they said to bring Gus in. It sucks to have to put down a dog, especially unexpectedly, but being away from home and our regular vet made it an extra crappy experience. Luckily the team here was kind and we were confident in their diagnosis and suggestions. Then the next day we had a kitty (yes they live in the RV too) with a UTI issue that had to go in. So yep we drove back the next day and they helped our sweet Mama Cat so much. Our fur babies are our children and it really made a huge difference in terms of peace of mind knowing the pets received such great care. Thank you to everyone on the team! read more

The care provided at this facility resulted in the death of my family's dog. Our family's dog was brought to this facility due to vomiting and weakness. Our pet was taken into this facility for an initial assessment for these symptoms. During his time at North Central there was a diagnostic procedure performed on him that our family did not consent this facility to perform. We were denied an opportunity to see our dog after he was taken into the care of North Central. My family was told that we would receive a phone call with information regarding our dogs condition but we never received a call. Instead we had to call the facility back after more than an hour had passed, to then be told that our dog was impending death and needed resources (blood and a surgeon) that this hospital could not provide. We were told he received a pain medication that decreases blood pressure even though his blood pressure was already too low. Our family questioned why we did not receive a call regarding his diagnosis and the need to find a facility that could help him. Why wasn't a phone call made to another facility to determine if there was a nearby place with blood and a surgeon? Once we were finally allowed into North Central to see our dog he was in a much worse condition than he had been when dropped off. He was cold, displayed a blank stare and appeared drowsy. His breathing was much different than before. Despite us physically seeing how ill he appeared. The Vet (G. CHERNOK) taking care of him moved extremely slow. He spoke extremely slow. He was not proactive about getting our baby to another facility. My family had to get on the phone and call another facility themselves to seek additional care for our dog. G. Chernok barely communicated with our family. Overall, this man seemed detached, cold and impaired in some way. Our dog needed blood and a surgeon, instead this facility only provided pain medication and IV fluids. They never tried to get him the care that he needed and the entire staff lacked compassion and concern. Our family's dog died shortly after being transferred from North Central. We are left with the guilt of taking our baby to this awful place. We are left questioning how he would have been taken care of at a better facility, a more proactive facility. What would the outcome have been if we were appropriately updated? If we had a Vet that was proactive and concerned about getting our baby the best care possible. Our family tried to reach out to management regarding our concerns and we were initially denied an opportunity to speak to the practice manager. Every person from this facility that spoke to our family made excuses for our experience. A member from my family finally had an opportunity to speak to Deana the practice manager, and when we told our story regarding the lack of urgency in getting our baby care and the cold demeaner of G. Chernok, her response was; didn't Dr. Chernok have on a mask? As if we were not able to assess Chernok's cold behavior, demeaner and affect because of a face mask. Our family has emotionally suffered in ways that are unimaginable from seeking care from this facility. Please take it from our experience so you or your pet don't suffer like we are suffering now. At approximately 6:40 I saw m 8 month-old puppy crunch up what I had reason to believe was a dropped ibuprofen pill. All reputable online sources stressed the treatment was to induce vomiting--the sooner the better, ideally within the first hour so that liver damage could be avoided. I arrived at Purdue North Central Veterinary Emergency Center (NCVEC) at 7:25pm, and, on instruction from the receptionist, called poison control while I was registering. And then she told me to sit down and wait. The waiting room was extremely crowded. I asked how long the wait would be and she told me about an hour. I said, "she doesn't have an hour." A vet tech heard me and came over and took my puppy right back. Around 30 minutes later the tech told me my puppy had vomited, but she seemed okay, but the vet still hadn't examined her. Around 9:15 I was told by the tech that my puppy would be okay. It took another hour for the vet to come out and tell me the same thing. At approximately 10:25, after paying a $160 bill we left the clinic. Today, my puppy is just fine. But I can't help but think about Loki, a one and a half year-old husky that had ingested 130 pills of melatonin with xylitol. I learned from the owners that Loki had eaten the pills at approximately 6:30 pm. Yet, even after my puppy had been taken back to see the vet, and the tech had come to tell me she'd vomited, no one came to get Loki. They had been sitting in the waiting area for more than an hour before I suggested they go flag down the tech and give them the numbers they'd received from poison control, even though they said they'd already given them to someone. When the tech came to get him, Loki could hardly get up to walk. I left before they'd learned any more about his condition. A poster on the wall at the clinic ranked priority of conditions to be treated first in an emergency. Under number one was poisoning. Yet the receptionist told Loki's owners (and had also told me) that they would have to wait. If I hadn't been insistent, I would have been waiting just as long. If I hadn't suggested Loki's owners go up to the desk to remind them they were still waiting, I'm not sure I wouldn't have seen Loki die on the floor in that clinic. read more

The care provided by North Central Veterinary Emergency saved my dog from a deadly rodenticide poisoning issue. Without their dedicated care for her, we would have lost her. Despite the COVID limitations, and their busy weekend, they stayed in frequent contact with me to ease my concerns and to educate me on every step that they took to insure her complete recovery. Thanks to the great care by the veterinarians and staff, our 7 year old "puppy" is up to her usual mischief. read more

Let it be known that while I am an absolute animal lover, I am not a big cat lover, but my family, including 4 small children, is. Over the 4th of July weekend the family cat was having respiratory distress. I hated the need, and expense, of a weekend visit to a vet, but could see that we had no choice. I was appalled at the cold, unsympathetic and negligent experience we had at North Central Emergency Vet Clinic. Our cat was having desperate breathing problems... after X-rays.. a few tests... and a $500+ bill... and little else.. the vet urged euthanizing the cat,... and gave little hope or options. We took the cat home that evening, against their advice, and cared for it through the evening... almost losing it several times, until we could get it into our normal area vet (Michigan City Animal Hospital). There, the cat was diagnosed, with no guarantees, as having pneumonia and placed on antibiotics. Within 6 hours of the vist, our cat seems 90% better and heading toward a full recovery. We will NEVER recommend or personally visit North Central Veterinarian Emergency Center. read more

This is noon on Friday, Nov 21st, 2014.  So far there has been no written response from North Central Veterinarian Emergency Clinic to the Better Business Bureau, nor to us.  North Central verbally asked us twice, what they could do to make things right for us and on Nov 15th, we faxed them (and the BBB).. a letter as to exactly what we felt was right and fair..  They have not responded to us and never sent a written reply to the Better Business Bureau either.. and so, we continue to wait. . It is a fact, that they can't bring our girl back to life, any more than we can.. But what happened that day, should never have happened.  Not to us or anyone else! To add to our heartbreak over the loss of our little girl Donna, we are dismayed over the lack of concern from North Central Veterinary Emergency Clinic.  Aren't they supposed to be compassionate to both the animals AND the owners?  So far, that doesn't seem to be the case...certainly not where money is involved..  Truly, PLEASE line up a plan for emergency care for your pets should the need ever arise...there are other alternatives in this area that we didn't know about when we took our dog to North Central!   All on the internet, you will find them under emergency veterinarian services near your town and state.. Google it.. Make some phone calls and ask about emergency procedures and hours.  One vet in the Hebron area even offers his personal cell phone number for off-hour emergencies!!  Choose wisely!! By the way, there were 3 other reviews besides ours, that appeared on yelp.com talking about this very same treatment.. Those three have apparently found satisfaction and have removed their reviews, but they sure aren't doing right by us...and YOU could find yourselves in our same situation.  Just a thought.  Take care and God bless.. read more

Only yesterday I woke up my 4 year old grey kitty wasn't moving and seemed in pain everywhere I touched him. I called around to half a dozen places and they all were either too busy or never seemed genuinely willing to help. I was referred here by rose land animal hospital. They answered the phone and told me the price to see the cat as an emergency visit, and told me to come in as soon as could. Due to Covid I wasn't allowed to see him get his preliminary test. They explained to me my options and since he was so critical they talked me through euthanasia. It was honestly the most depressing moment of my life, my little baby was so helpless and so scared. And they took such good care of him and me. Finally they let me come inside to say goodbye and be with him while she helped him slip into peace. He was only a baby. They think it was a blood clot or possible heart disease all I know is they handled his body with such tender love and care. They were so focused on what was best for animal and I cannot thank them enough for what they did. I am still a wreck about losing my poor little guy but I couldn't do it without the women at this clinic. They understood I needed more time with him, and that his body was important for me to take a bury at my parents house. They even said they took a paw print in clay that they plan to send to me in two weeks completely free of charge. I cannot thank them enough. I wanted to take him home and let him die at home, and the vet insisted that was the wrong move to make. She made me feel at peace with what we were doing together was to make him feel better. Not me, but him. And his little legs gave out, his head laid town, and they wrapped him a blanket for me to take home. They were great. read more

We returned home from dinner and saw that our dog had eaten a full package of Raisinettes. I had known chocolate could be toxic, as could grapes, so I immediately called the nearest emergency vet. From our initial phone call to our 3 hour say, we were impressed with the staff. We arrived and were immediately taken to a room. The assistant kept us informed of process throughout the evening; she was everything you'd want during an emergency -- upbeat, attentive, and poised. The vet explained everything in understandable terms. And, we had feared that we'd have to leave our dog overnight, but they were able to send him home after confirming with Poison Control that the immediate issue was no longer life threatening.
