While other Drs had looked at my condition and had given me shots of cortisone, possible tenex surgery, and possibly major surgery, Dr Wheeless was looking at the WHOLE problem. Dr Wheeless spent a great deal of time with me explaining how and why I wasn't healing and reccomended several ways to get better. I'm happy to say that after 3 months of treatment, my arm is 90% and I'm out doing all the things I could do before my injury.

I think it might be helping reduce sore muscles, I just can't tell yet ( sore since last weekend workouts;) I read some research in Cryotherapy last night...it's said to likely burn up to 800 calories after one 3 min session due to the blood vessels rushing from the protected core to all the areas once you're out. She told me it was arthritis and she could not help me even though it was popping and causing me extreme pain. I waited in the wait area for almost 20 min past my appointment time before a perky RN took me to a room and asked me why I was there. She asked if I minded if there was a student to which I of course didn't. The student was the first to come in. He was very patient and tried to get all the info he could to give some advice. This is where my visit went pear-shaped. I was then shown into another room where His Lordship, Dr. Kanaan agreed to grant my request for an audience. This guy had all the bedside manner of Jim Jones. The Dr was more interested in humiliating his student then any explanation of care. He ultrasounded my elbow without preamble, saw fluid & proceeded to tell me that there really wasn't anything he could do. "If you want I can TRY to drain it but it'll just come back" is honestly what he said. I asked what he would recommend and he said "I'd get it drained because I don't like to wait". I am not kidding you. He was gentle during the procedure I will give him that, but once done & ungloved he tossed the needle he'd used in the general direction if his very full sharps container...missed & had to pick it up & re-toss, got up & left. I guess the appointment was over. No post-care instruction...nothing. The RN came back to give me the discharge for the billing person & sent me in my way. I REALLY wish I knew some sports guys as I'd tell them there has to be someone better than Bob Kelso's stand-in!!

Bad apples in every bag, Dr. Reeg is the bad apple of Duke Orthopedic. I did not experience a…read moreproper or professional meeting but rather, I met a petulant child having a temper tantrum. He had not one good thing to say and his only interest was in beating down my previous back surgeon and then verbally beating me down if I tried to disagree. The two things that are keeping me angry about this experience are the facts that I had to pay my abuser for abusing me and that he had no reservations about negatively beating down my previous surgeon, someone he knows and works with as colleague. The fact he felt no qualms about being so aggressive to me while I was awake makes me shutter to think of how he could be if I were asleep. I'm over the third trauma of being told there is no hope for my back because my previous surgeon totally destroyed it and my bones being too frail to handle any screws because, my bone density test and my 'heaven sent' surgeon, both proved him 100% wrong. I saw your real face Dr. Reeg and I know your a snake in the grass. Just know, I am not your silent victim who will fear shame of judgement for speaking about how you abused me. I know I am granting you the courtesy of kindness that you never extended me. I have forgiven you to my Saviour for judgement and justice. My vengeance is my Lord because he will serve it most fairly. However, I hope the colleague you worked so hard to degrade can forgive the pain my truth will bring him but, I suspect he and many others have already seen your real face too. I will close by saying that should any proper Duke affiliate want to reach out and inquire, I will gladly speak with them. In the meantime, I am now entering cardio care because the stress and distress from you has possibly given me a heart attack. Sleep well with yourself.

Sadly, I have decided to stop using this practice. I very much like Dr. Stephen Peterson, my…read moreprimary care physician from this practice, but I have now had 3 separate issues with their billing department. 1. I was charged for a full 30+ minute visit ($255) for what was actually a virtual Covid diagnosis call, which should have been something like $25 as advertised at their office. This happened 10 months ago and I am still getting the run around from their billing department. I spoke to someone months ago who said she was looking into it and has never called me back. Their outgoing voice mail says they will return voice messages within 24 hours. They have not once called me back after 3 or 4 follow-up inquiries. 2. They charge a higher amount for 30 minutes-or-less visit, as they do for a 31-to-40 minute visit. If I schedule a 30 minute visit, and it happens to go over by a minute or two, I don't think it's my responsibility to watch the clock. I find it dishonest to let the appointment run over and then charge me more. The efficiency of the office flow should be on them, not the patient. I am not a difficult patient who sticks around and asks multiple extra questions. This happened on a different office visit than the Covid call mentioned above. Strike 2. 3. I just got charged a $25 appointment cancelation fee for a recent appointment I had to miss due to showing Covid symptoms. From my point of view, I didn't cancel the appointment -- they did! Of course, no once answers when you try to call and discuss (see point 1). 3 strikes, time to move on to someone else.
