We live in town and I've had to visit multiple departments, including the ER for both myself and taking my parents. In the 10 years or so since I first left the review, I can honestly stay I stand by my original assessment. If you, literally, don't think you'll survive the drive to Lahey or Mass General then certainly go here. Otherwise, do whatever you can to get to a better hospital. Aside from my own 1-star experiences, I've heard multiple stories of similar experiences of close friends and immediate family getting grossly misdiagnosed by Emerson. Most recently they sent a friend home after a CAT scan with a "concussion" which, fortunately, the Lahey Clinic almost immediately discovered were severe brain lesions. My father was in a car accident where Emerson missed a broken back and concussion - again, fortunately, caught days later by another hospital. It's unfortunate as we live about 2.3 miles away but between our experiences and local paramedics recommending other hospitals, it's simply not worth stopping unless absolutely critical. (Side note: Yelp's, "Not Recommended" reviews for Emerson are worth a read.)

Dr. John Kwon, MD (MD!, not DPM), is an expert, Fellowship trained Foot and Ankle orthopedic surgeon, who exudes expert, state of the art, compassionate care. Dr. Kwon surgically repaired a complex foot condition of mine, and, here I am, six months post-op, and I so regret not having my foot condition repaired, years prior, by Dr. Kwon. I am grateful to an MGH orthopedic surgeon for referring me to Dr. Kwon. Dr. Kwon's Care Team includes a Physician Assistant by the name of Patrick Maguire, who is a superb clinician, as well. Dr. Kwon and Patrick Maguire function as a very cohesive team, and collaborate closely. On the day of my surgery, Dr. Kwon updated Patrick Maguire about what he discovered of my condition, in the operating room, while Patrick was seeing patients in the Foot and Ankle clinic. I saw Patrick several hours, later, as we were leaving Day Surgery, and Patrick had already heard about my surgery from Dr. Kwon, even though Dr. Kwon, and Patrick, were in two different places. Dr. Kwon's support team, in the office, two, very caring ladies, are superb; they are as caring, as they are professional, and efficient. I am confident that I could not have found a better foot and ankle orthopedic surgeon, than Dr. Kwon, and Dr. Kwon's team, and the Day Surgery Team (including nursing and anesthesia) are absolutely superb.

From that experience, childbirth became something that brought fear, anxiety, and deep emotional distress. During my second pregnancy, even though I had an amazing medical team and delivered by C-section, I was extremely worried. My second daughter was born with some genetic anomalies, which at that time caused me intense anxiety, fear, and despair. Thank God, today those anomalies do not affect her life in any way -- truly a miracle from God -- but in that moment, it was emotionally overwhelming. This current pregnancy came as a surprise, and it was filled with challenges, discomfort, and many difficult days. However, I was blessed to be followed so closely by the wonderful AFA team at Emerson Hospital in Concord. They always respected my emotional condition and supported me with compassion, patience, and understanding. When the day of my C-section arrived, I was met with a team that completely changed my story. I want to express my deepest gratitude to Dr. Letner, the nurses, the nursing technicians, the anesthesiologist, and every member of the hospital staff. From the cleaning staff, to the people who brought my meals, to everyone who cared for Bella and for me -- I will be forever thankful. You rewrote my maternity story. Nursing staff respected my birth plan and made every effort to adhere to our wishes. Once the baby arrives and move to our suite each nurse who entered were full of excellent advise, instruction, and compassion. Baby and husband roomed in during our stay. Room service was quick to arrive and delicious. My favorite part of the stay was when nutrition came by with a cart of delicious sweets and fruit. Emerson didn't treat my labor and delivery like a medical disease or emergency. I would highly recommend using this center to any expectant mother.

I am a patient of Dr. Paul D Costas…read more..  THE best healthcare experience I have had! Dr. Costas is a brilliant surgeon! Dr. Costas and his staff are top notch, courteous and professional. A questionable spot was found on my mammogram and I had always considered having a breast reduction. I decided to just do it! I had breast reduction and lift surgery, with liposuction. Two words... NO DRAINS! I never knew until Dr. Costas told me, that I had what is called Breast Hypertrophy, just another example of the extent of knowledge and experience of Dr. Costas! I was scheduled when there was a cancellation, and had my surgery one week after my consultation! The staff shared their own, personal surgery stories with me and they have a way of putting you at ease! My primary doctor, NP and my specialists are familiar with Dr. Costas' work and speak in high regards of his talent. I work in the medical field, and I have highly recommended Dr. Costas to my patients and colleagues. I am so glad I had the surgery, and wish I had done it sooner! I am grateful for the results, and for the positive effects this surgery has had on my health. I am so lucky to have found Dr. Costas and his staff.

Dr. Costas did not inform me of the possibility of…read moreincreased scar tissue with repeated procedures at the exact location; in fact, there was very little communication on his part throughout the procedure or during aftercare meetings. I developed keloid scars under both breasts. Still, he did not inform me what I had or how to help myself. He repeatedly advised massaging the area with vitamin E. Keloid scarring is irritating and erythematous. The scars are raised and thick. I would not recommend this doctor. He does not take the time to evaluate each patient properly, and his communication skills are inadequate. I waited to write this to see if my scars would heal over time, and they have not. Working with him was the worst decision I have made in the field of plastic surgery. There is more, as he did three procedures, but I will not go on. I wasted my money and am permanently scarred. The lack of communication left me feeling empty, uncared for, and cheated. Please! Find someone who listens, asks about your health condition and previous procedures, gives you the facts, and treats you like an individual with unique concerns. 12/31/25. If I was actively on fire, I would not stop in for help. had an acute painful issue and needed to see them urgently, I saw a nurse practitioner who (was by far the nicest person I worked with there) - she referred me to a specialist and my only option to be seen in less than two weeks was to go to the Boston office. About a week passed where I was still in pain... I went there, saw a specialist who...(really could use some bedside manor training) - told me I was too late, the problem should resolve on its own. For these delays, multiple visits and --- 0 relief in close to a month, I was charged over $800! I came to them seeking help, and they hurt me financially. I appealed to them that I should not be charged, certainly for the 0 value specialist visit. They told me to pound sand. Run, don't walk away from these money grubbing AHOLES.

We weren't even done with the paperwork you have to fill as a new patient. My daughter LOVER Dr. Thomas, which makes me incredibly happy cause the way my daughter described how she was treated makes you feel comforted, cause my daughters well being and care is in their hands. Their waiting area is HUGE with TVs and lots of seating. The staff is so polite and kind, it's easy to find to despite the address seeming like it would be difficult
