I went to Dr. Costas for a tummy tuck and breast implants and I also had an umbilical hernia repaired at the same time (in the summer of 2012). Dr. Costas did the tummy tuck and breast implants while Dr. Khan performed the hernia repair. They have worked together in the past doing these procedures, so I was comfortable having this done. I was very interested in having all 3 procedures done at the same time, since I did not want to have two major surgeries in one year and two similar recovery times. It's been 4 weeks since my surgery. What I liked about Dr. Costas: - I liked his vision of how my body should be. He listened to what I had to say. - He has done this in the past and I felt comfortable with him and was impressed with his experience. - He told me the options for where the incisions would be for my breast implants. We talked about the different options and he asked what my preference would be, I preferred under the breast. On the day of the surgery we went over what he was planning on doing and I told him to do what he thought was best, since this is his specialty and it isn't mine. After the surgery, the incisions were placed in a different area, around the bottom of the nipple, because after he pulled down my skin for the tummy tuck, having the incisions under the breast would not have been a good choice. I am glad that while he asked what I wanted, in the end he did what he thought was best. - He wanted to know what size I wanted my breasts to be. He did spend a lot of time on this to make sure he knew what I wanted. He also made suggestions of what he thought would look good for my frame. I didn't want gigantic breasts, but did want full ones, similar to what I had when I was nursing my children. I also am very active and play a lot of sports and do a lot of activities, so I wanted to be sure that the breasts were not too big. I am very pleased with how they came out. They are spectacular. He used Mentor silicone implants. - I am very pleased with my tummy tuck incision, it is low, and it is a thin line. I have looked at youtube videos of other women who have had a tummy tuck and my scar looks as good if not better than theirs. - I was also happy that he was able to pull down enough skin so that the hernia incision was incorporated into the tummy tuck incision. This was a decision that Dr. Costas made during surgery. Before the surgery he stated that I might have stitches going from my new belly button incision down to the tummy tuck incision, if enough skin could not be pulled down. I would have been okay with having a t-looking incision, but glad that I don't have it. - Dr. Costas answers any questions that I have and gives good answers. I also like Dr. Costas' staff. They are very pleasant and helpful. I would definitely recommend him to my friends and family. read more

I am a trans man that went in for a double incision mastectomy with nipple grafts. In my experience the bulk of recovery takes about 4 to 6 weeks; however, I ended up needing to take the full 6 weeks off from work due to 90% of my job being done with my arms over my head. I was able to get my drains out 5 days in. Although, it normally takes about a week. Currently I am 20 days in and I am at the stage where I still have to wear the post op. Binder; but, the most I need for dressings is scar tape. I am quite happy with how things are going. Dr. Costas is very good at keeping a professional yet, comfortable environment. He is wicked good at consistently keeping with the correct gendered language. That kind of environment was very important to me considering he has to be able to see your chest to do his job. The vunruble nature of that situation makes it easy to be nervous about; but, the general vibe he brings made it a whole lot easier. He very clearly takes pride in his work. He cares about the results when you get sent out the door and later down the line as you heal. He is very good at giving an overall understanding of how healing will look and the guidelines you should follow so you can do your part in getting the best results you can. The office manager Jane made the whole scheduling, insurance, and paperwork aspect ​super easy. She especially helped me out a lot since this was my first experience with any kind of surgery. She checked with my insurance coverage provider for me to see how much coverage I could get and what I needed to do so. The main thing I had to for my insurance provider was get a letter from my mental health clinician. Within the month I was waiting on that letter from my counselor, Jane was sure to check in with me to see how things were going. She was quite quick to respond to emails and always made and effort to make scheduling work with what I had going on. I was throwing a pillow on my bed one morning when my ring caught on my nipple piercing and ripped--not quite through, but 90 degrees through my nipple. I almost fainted from the pain and horror. I had a friend take me to the emergency department at Concord's Emerson hospital and they didn't know what to do. They called Dr. Costas, whose office is in the Cumings Building at the hospital. He was able to see me immediately in his office without an appointment. The office staff was very sympathetic and so nice. They soon realized that my cheap insurance wasn't going to cover his services but he saw me anyway. He took a look and was very sympathetic too, but he assured me it wasn't too bad. He knew exactly what to do. He administered Novocaine and delicately stitched up my nipple with dissolving stitches. He assured me it would look fine. And it does! It healed beautifully in a couple of weeks with not even any stitch marks. As for the piercing, I think it healed through but I'm not ready to even try to put them back in again. I think I'm kind of over the whole nipple piercing thing! Ha ha. I don't have the money for plastic surgery (or a driving desire to fix something in particular) but if I did, I would *so* go to Dr. Costas! I recommend him to my friends and everyone I know. The staff at Concord Plastic Surgery is extremely kind and competent. Dr. Paul Costas is a compassionate, skilled and amazing surgeon/artist. He took the time and really got to know me and my needs. He spoke with the people that joined me for the consultation as he wasn't just concerned with the surgery outcome; he was genuinely concerned about me as a person and my emotional state. He listened and answered all my questions. He was very responsive to my needle/IV trauma issues and made sure that his staff and hospital staff, including the anesthesiologist, were on board, aware of my extra needs, and that they were met. Post Operative the staff has been very helpful in answering many questions even in between follow up appointments. They have minimized my need to come in to the office as much as possible as I live over 3 hours away. Recently my son broke his nose / septum and required emergency plastic surgery exactly TEN days before he was due to graduate college and take a trip to Europe. I am beyond satisfied with my top surgery experience. I got surgery on April 9th, 2025 and every step of the way, Dr. Costas was accommodating (I am plus sized and have had negative experiences with previous surgeons and doctors treating me different because I am a bigger guy), knowledgeable, and had great bedside manner. I was referred to Dr. Costos' office by my primary provider. Many years ago I had double mastectomies and my spine was starting to curve from the weight of the prosthetics I wore. I cannot say enough about how wonderful Dr. Costos' reconstruction of my breasts are, they look very natural.
