This is a great local mom and pop sandwich shop with friendly staff, and great food. Keep in mind cash only so your prepared in advance though! It was a breeze to order and do either take out, eat in, or eat outside in the patio in front and "people watch" in this very beautiful picturesque seaport downtown Edenton. It transports you back in time when towns were smaller and friendlier. The wonderful people here take the time to shoot the breeze with each other, and wave as a neighbor/friend drives past slowly on the way to this or that. The staff member also took time out of his busy day to share with us a wonderful back story of the owner/Chef Emelio catering a dinner party for Julia Child (a picture on the wall to prove this as well). Not many can share a story such as this, but it was those kinds of story's and much more that we heard and learned from the locals who have lived here over the years of their relaxing water haven that refreshes the body and soul! So if you want to learn more about when NC was "just" one of the thirteen colony's and Edenton making it's amazing entrance as the first capital of NC come hear all about it firsthand! Their boat tours, trolley tours, and seeing the historical sites inside and out is a great way to make incredible memories as you learn about NC history! The food was delicious here and at the other locally owned downtown eateries! Emelio's was welcoming, and the town truly unforgettable! I can't believe I have lived only an hour from this location for 14.5 years and have never visited this beautiful seaside town! Oh the adventures we had in our two night stay at a local Airbnb! This town of such rich historical beauty, and a town full of southern hospitality...there are SO many reasons to come back here with even more of my friends and family! If you don't have to drive far, this area is a perfect place to do a day trip (preferably on a day that most places are open). What a very strange place but I am glad I came. Sleepy Edenton has a couple of diners and bistro-type places, but I wanted something quick that I could eat on the go. This fit the bill. Pretty much all they have here are sandwiches and accompaniments like chips and sodas - at least during the lunch hour I was there. But what a selection - huge, varied, and atypical! The menu was handwritten on the whiteboard behind the counter. It took me a while to choose, during which the waitperson/cashier/owner? was trying to be helpful with advice like "the Carolina Cuban is really popular". Not so helpful actually; this extensive and verbose menu required concentration! I eventually decided on the "Argentinian": smoked turkey, swiss and feta cheese, onions, tomatoes, and chimichurri on a slightly toasted baguette. Why the name? I suppose it was the sauce; turkey and feta are not commonly associated with Argentina. Many of their sandwiches have geographical names, though the association is vague at best for many of them. No matter; it was an excellent sandwich. Chimichurri is so much more interesting than the traditional mustard, oil, or mayonnaise condiments. The tomato was fresh, the turkey flavorful and ample in quantity. And the feta: highly unusual in the use of thick slabs rather than crumbled as traditional. Aside from the minor issue of my waitperson/cashier being too chatty while I was making up my mind the service was excellent. Her demeanor was cheerful, she got my order right, and that was ready really quickly. As I left with my bagged lunch, she wished me a "Blessed Day". What more could I ask for? But, my time there being so short I didn't really have time to take in the ambience. Which is too bad, because the ambience was ... weird. I wish I could have remembered more. There were some small dining tables and chairs, so you could eat there. I had an overall impression of clutter and a feeling of transition. Like, it used to be a dining room but now it is also a back office? Or a storage closet? Stacks of paper towels, paper files, office supplies. Projects layed out in corners. We had wanted to try this place because it always smelled so good walking by but then they closed down. When we read the had re-opened at a new location we dropped in for a quick lunch. We ordered the South Broad which is ham, bacon, pimento cheese & slaw. We couldn't find any bacon in our sandwich and the pimento cheese was so thin it was used more as a condiment. The amount of ham was generous and the baguette was amazing. We also ordered the Edentonian which was turkey, apple and Swiss, it was a good, solid sandwich. The drink cooler had lots of Gatorade, soda and a few teas, only side option is chips. My one big issue was how dirty the bathroom was, the food area appeared clean though. My wife and I were in the area visiting her parents over the Memorial Day weekend. We stopped in Edenton for lunch only to discover most everything closed. However, Emilio's was open and serving food. There was a pleasant mother and adult daughter sharing lunch at a table on the sidewalk. Their presence even added to the atmosphere. Being the only place open at the time, we entered. First impression, the aroma in the establishment is phenomenal. My wife and I had lunch here today. I had the Emilio's Club and my wife had the Gyro. They were both amazing! On the way out I remarked that everything was fabulous and that there must be a great bakery in town. They said they make their own breads! The locals were stopping here to get takeout. Service was quick even though the amenities are basic - pick a sandwich, grab some chips if desired, and select a bottled drink from the cooler, and have a seat. On our way back from a nice weekend get-a-way and thought we'd stop by since they had 4-1/2 out of 5 star rating. I ordered the chicken salad on a toasted croissant. Terrible on many levels: NEVER put dark meat in chicken salad! At one point I had to spit out a piece of non-meat. Very lacking in the three cranberries that were split between the halves of my sandwich. I can't believe I paid almost $8.00 for that. Visited Edenton for the first time yesterday and had lunch here after reading reviews. We, too, were impressed with our sandwiches. My husband had a special of the day, N.C. BBQ on soft roll; and I had a made-to-order smoked turkey and provolone with extras, also on the soft roll that is made in house. Both sandwiches were very tasty, good size, and good price. My boyfriend and I stopped in here for a quick snack. The staff was warm and welcoming and they had enough choices for us to quickly find something to order. Basically, the place only offers a small menu of sandwiches, but it seems like there is something on the menu for everyone. You order at the counter and they bring your meal to the table. We ordered one sandwich to split, and also grabbed a bag of chips and a bottle of water. It was the perfect light lunch for before a walk through the blistering heat. Great sandwiches in downtown Edenton. I had the NC Cuban and it was fantastic. The pulled pork had that nice East Carolina tang. My wife had the ham melt and was equally impressed. The pizza baguette, however, was not so great. Squares of American cheese did the trick, but having mozzarella as an option would have been preferred. The decor is a little dated and eclectic in a weird way, but all in all this was a great lunch stop. read more

We were visiting from out of town and stopped there because the good rating on here. Terrible sandwich; the bread tasted stale. Right much meat in it, however, the dressing they used didn't have much taste to it.
