Definitely a place in the middle of nowhere. When I walked in, every server just looked at us like we were different. Not a look I like too see. There's not much to say. The food is okay, the waiter was just okay. The waiter was nice, but didn't know much about drinks nor the menu. Another guy at the bar, walked out with a case of beer from the bar. I'm not too sure what was going on, it wasn't too busy whatsoever. Slow as molasse. Just felt strange sitting in a nice lunch area. We were the only customers at noon for a whole entire hour. I ordered a app, it was okay, order a burger well it didn't pack much of a flavor. I wasn't too comfortable after arriving. Very basic food with a high pricetag. Just felt off, with everything going on. I'll go back, but I wont expect much. In the end, food is okay but nice views of the creeks and boats!

I believe this place reopened after several months of being closed due to Covid. The hubs and I discovered the restaurant with help from our kayak instructor. After paddling for about two hours, and admiring the beautiful scenery, we docked and entered the eatery. Our waitress was sweet. She brought us to a table with views of the water we had previously exited. Since we both were famished appetizers looked very promising. The Chesapeake Bay house chips were made in house, and came with a side of ranch sauce. They were fresh, crunchy, seasoned well, and addicting. I wish they sold these separately to take home. Sometimes your eyes are bigger than your stomach... I literally wanted to eat everything after paddling for two hours, but I needed to pace myself. I hoped my hubby ordered something I could also stuff my stomach with in addition to my food ;) Well he kept it safe and didn't live dangerously by ordering a mushroom and Swiss burger lol. It was very very good. I took several bites of the burger. Since he eats meat medium well to well done verses my medium rare, I was surprised on how flavorful and Smokey it was. Most of the time burgers that's cooked well tend to be dry and hard. I opted for the seafood dinner plate even though it was a little after 1pm. Thank god they offer dinner early during that time. Everyone seemed to be gravitating towards the lunch menu ;) I tried to be a bit health conscious by ordering the shrimp plate sautéed instead of fried. By doing so, I celebrated that choice by choosing my two sides of sweet potato fries and hush puppies. The 1/2lb of shrimp was flavorful, and sweet with a kick of spicy seasoning. There was enough shrimp leftover to take home to make into a sandwich. The sweet potato waffle fries were thin and crunchy. I wished it had a little more potato meat, and was not consistent to a potato chip. The hush puppies were savory, hot, fresh, crisp exterior, and a great side dish to the shrimp. I highly recommend landings at Mackeys. Call ahead to see what their hours are before heading over. The hubs and I would definitely revisit! Support local!!!

    Taco?

Horrible! Rancid wine, cold food, tacos were a joke- Just lettuce and raw shrimp. No salsa, avocado, sour cream, flavor.. The fish tasted old, no sauces that go with fried fish (tartar sauce etc.) The waitress said this happens all the time. This place used to be great.. unreal..

    Garlic cheese curds! Amazing!

We loved the atmosphere, saw other repeat customers and got to know several of the friendly, on-the-ball servers. The buffet food offered country-cooking foods with a variety of selections.  We liked the atmosphere and food so much that we drove about 2 hours round trip to just eat at The Hitchin Post. We took a break for several months then recently returned to learn that there was a new owner. We didn't recognize any of the staff. We were told by our server that the owners were making some positive changes. OK, we thought, we will give it a chance.   Today we arrived on Sunday again and we were so disappointed. First off, the music was blaring (saying a lot coming from a person with a hearing loss!) with pop music which is disconcerting in a western-themed, country restaurant. We nicely mentioned the loud music to our server but nothing was done.  And, no I am not some ornery codger who hates contemporary music.  But who the heck wants their eardrums punctured early on Sunday morning?  The Hitchin Post is usually busy on Sundays at this time, but there were few customers today. I would not be surprised if other regulars are unhappy also.  The fried chicken, cornbread, rolls are still good. Overall, the food quality has also gone downhill - definitely not enough vegetable choices.   Plus, no one should ever mix butterbeans and corn together.  My gosh, the cake slices are so small, close to paper-thin and not tasty to boot. Sadly, we won't be returning. I hope the new owners can turn this around before they lose more regulars.

The ambiance is fine dining meets comfortable, just takin a breath of fresh air kind of good. I left thinking this was one of the best meals out I have ever had...and I can tell you that thought doesn't run through my mind every day! This beautiful eatery in the back of a local bed & breakfast was 5 star quality and 5 star service with an air of small town charm. You leave feeling like you will be returning "some day", because you don't want to imagine what life would be like not to! Thank you Casey and Crew for making our 21st wedding anniversary dinner out one we will never forget! I had no idea what a tomahawk steak was until arriving here, and will definitely savor the memory and taste of it for years to come! Blown away...to say the least (and so was my husband). The charcutery board wasn't what I was hoping for based off of how the restaurant presents itself, and the time spent on the meal seemed excessive. I was at least hopeful to end on a pleasant note, but was given a science experiment of a cheesecake. Despite this the chef alongside the servers were stellar and made the experience significantly better.

Then I waited another 15 minutes for my simple meal of 2 eggs and toast. Waitress never checked on me or rest of the table. I got up while waiting and told her this was not acceptable to wait 25 minutes after everyone had been served. I expected to get my $7.00 meal free. Got the check with a 38 cents ($0.38)deduction. I was overwhelmed but we settled on the bbq plate and the shrimp and scallop sandwich with onion rings. Everything was truly amazing. The onion rings were perfect. They had the best crisp! As well as the fries. The sandwich you could taste the flavor the second it hit your mouth. No waiting to chew and swallow. It was instant YUM. I was really craving coleslaw and while it was very fresh and looked great, it was slightly sweet and I personally prefer a more vinegar/savory slaw. I also ordered a coke with my meal and I have a very distinguished and picky palate for GREAT coke. It needs to have the "bite" and the burn, not watered down and sad. This did not disappoint. Every sip I took I had to exclaim. This is great coke! I wish we could go back, but they're closed today, on Monday, and we're leaving the beach.
