We have been Mamasita's fans since they had the restaurant on Broad st(which has since been torn down to make room for a Tractor Supply). Just a bar, with great drinks, maybe a dozen tables, and superb service. This Sunday we stopped by for lunch. Started out good, the waitress brought chips and salsa as is the norm, gave us time to make our decisions and took our order. Went downhill from there. We waited for our meal, and waited, and waited. Over 30 minutes. We saw patrons come in, order, receive their food, eat and pay their bill. Still, we waited. When the food finally arrived, we had to send my wife's plate back because the food was cold I never saw a waitress carry anything to the table, it was a robot. Overall a disappointing experience. Another restaurant owner suggested this place as he was closing. Overall nice family friendly place. Shrimp dish was nice and spicy and portion was perfect. Chicken tacos were good. Service was also good. If in the mood for Mexican they have a large menu. read more

I gave the 2nd star for "grace" purposes alone due to it being a busier lunch timeframe on a Sunday "after church" kinda crowd (as well as it only being my 1st time coming to this local eatery). However, had I come at an earlier lunch timeframe, and was a local return customer this would have been a 1 star review. The setup in the eatery was a askew, although the restaurant itself was clean (and so was the bathroom which was a good surprise). We were seated in the bar area without being asked if this was "ok" seating arrangement for our party of 2. We were seated by a young middle school aged employee. The waitress was nice enough until I asked for a box shortly after receiving my food when I alerted her to the fact my lunch came dead cold (which this was after a 30 minute plus wait time). Her response, "I'll get you a box". I guess I expected, "I'm sorry...would you like us to make it again?" or at the very least, "I am so sorry that happened!". I will say to her credit, she did let her manager know, and they discounted the meal which I didn't expect...nor did I request. Typically most Mexican eateries serve their lunch items rather quickly since they are a smaller version of the dinner options, and so maybe I am use to other places doing an amazing job of getting people in an out at lunch timeframes. This was NOT the case at Mamasita's. I have never been served cold Mexican food before...I guess there is a "first time for everything". But I would have preferred to not have this experience at all(which was more like a nightmare then an experience to be honest)! I did taste my wonderful husband's warm version of chicken fajitas also, and it too was not great...but it was much better then cold Pollo con Arroz. When food is neither good warm nor remotely palatable cold, there is definitely a problem here. The lack of flavor and attention to detail all around left me not just "wanting" but rather longing to to a "re-do" of sorts (if I could "turn back time" as Cher once boisterously sang out so fervently some years back), and NOT come here at all in the first place...oh if we only could click our heels 3 times to achieve such a feat!!! read more

We went to Mamasitas with some friends on a very busy holiday weekend, and it was excellent. They provided exactly the kind of Mexican restaurant experience we were all looking for--the little carafe of good salsa, some tasty white queso, big heavy plates of food. The food was hot and delicious. The refills were prompt. The prices were good. Everyone at the table remarked about how much they enjoyed lunch. (And the place was PACKED, so it seems like it's a popular spot.) I'd go back if I'm ever in Edenton again. For a small town in North Carolina, you couldn't possibly expect a better Mexican joint. So, I'm kind of bewildered at many of these other low star reviews. Many are very light on explanation or seem to describe a good dining experience and then inexplicably end with 2-3 stars. They have consistantly good food, the staff is pretty good you hardly have to wait for service. I like the decor of their old place, the new place is nice but could be a truck stop, it doesn't look or sound like a mexican resturant. Still very good food and staff. read more

Love it! First time diners and couldn't be happier! New in town didn't know where to go for great Mexican food. Found it here. Chips and salsa delivered to the table immediately yes warm and crispy. Ordered Fresco Guacamole dip very good! Our meals were Carnitas tacos dinner and Carnitas dinner plate. Both excellent! Topped off with perfect Flan. Staff very welcoming. Great service!! Stopped here for dinner tonight - we are staying in Edenton between our time in Corolla and our conference in Greensboro. Charming town and tasty Mexican food here! Our server(s) were attentive and friendly - the food was good - reasonably priced - good margaritas - only reason for 4 stars was the chips tasted "off." Not enough to keep me from noshing, but just ... off. Bonus: our server didn't seem to mind me trying to remember some words from my Spanish classes of yesteryear. We visited Mamasita's on Valentines Day. We were definitely expecting it to be busy (which it was) and for how busy it was we were sat pretty quickly. Which was good. They brought chips and salsa which is typical but I feel as though this salsa was spicier than normal! But that's okay because I actually like spicy salsa. We didn't order any appetizers or anything like that. For my entree I ordered the "Pollo con arroz" (chicken with rice) and it was really good. The last 3 times there had to send back food for being cold. Last time sent it back again still cold. My biggest complaint is the people cussing loudly at the bar. No matter where you are sitting it can be heard.Not good around kids and family. Hope your new place will be able to separate the bar from restaurant section. read more

I hate leaving bad reviews but this was pretty bad. The "10oz Margherita" was literally about 8oz of ice and 2oz of liquor. When I asked the waiter I was told "sorry, man. That's the way it is." The floor was dirty, the food was terrible and no one in our party left happy. read more

During the pandemic I regularly stopped for take out of my favorite meal. Since things have opened up, friends and I enjoyed a meal there. I know they are planning to move to a busier location. I hope this move will not change their friendly and prompt service. I worry about being able to park near the new place as I need handicap parking. I love this restaurant. They take the time to know their patrons and treat everyone as if they are special. I don't live here but when I come home to visit my family they always remember me and when I'm away they always ask about me. After surgery one time they sent home a special tshirt with my mom to help make me feel better. Can't get any better service than that! Plus I love their food!! read more

I was invited to join there a visiting friend who use to live in Edenton. I ordered a margarita and so did someone else at the table and we both noticed that there was no tequila whatsoever in the drink. We tried to tell the owner but he wouldn't listen to any of it. We were from out of town and your choices of a restaurant open on a Sunday night in Edenton are extremely limited, so we went here. Let's just say, we never got around to ordering food because the Margarita's were horrible. I told the waiter it didn't taste right, (mixer had gone bad) and asked him if we could get another type drink instead. He refused and said that he couldn't exchange alcohol. I asked for the manager....he wasn't there. I was told that we were basically stuck with a drink that we couldn't drink and had to pay for it with no offer to get another in exchange. The waiter said he would have to pay for the drinks himself. We told him we weren't paying for a drink we couldn't consume and he slammed the drinks on his tray, started shaking his head and stormed off. Lovely experience. read more
