Dr. Julio Beras Matos is an exceptional rheumatologist, to say the least. I spent seven years…read moresuffering from debilitating symptoms that were overlooked or dismissed as mere anxiety. I first met Dr. Beras Matos in May 2022 for a new patient consultation. He was incredibly patient and took the time to truly listen as I explained my medical history and the symptoms I had been experiencing for the previous seven years, symptoms that progressively worsened with each passing year. After performing lab work and a thorough physical assessment, he told me, "I believe you have systemic lupus." At the time, it was a devastating diagnosis to receive, but I was also relieved and deeply grateful to finally have answers and, more importantly, to finally have a physician who believed me instead of dismissing my symptoms once again. Over the last four years, Dr. Beras Matos has guided me through this lupus journey, and to say it has been tumultuous would be an understatement. He has always taken the time to sit and listen to me. There have been many tearful moments, and his compassion as a physician reflects the kind of person he truly is. He has always allowed me to actively participate in my treatment plan and respected my hesitations regarding certain medications, including azathioprine, methotrexate, Benlysta, and Saphnelo. He gave me the time and space to process difficult decisions and revisit treatment options when my symptoms worsened. He has truly exhausted every tool in his rheumatology arsenal to help treat my systemic lupus and chronic pleurisy. When I hoped to become pregnant, he transitioned me to azathioprine. When Benlysta failed to control my symptoms, he moved on to Saphnelo. When azathioprine was no longer effective, he started methotrexate. During my lupus flares, he has consistently accommodated me, making time to call me or see me urgently in clinic to help get my symptoms under control with steroids. Dr. Beras Matos is clearly passionate about rheumatology and autoimmune disease. He is eager to stay informed on emerging research and future treatments currently being studied in clinical trials that may one day improve the lives of his patients. He has been a constant guiding force throughout my illness, someone I know I can turn to when lupus fails me, someone who will help me search for answers and solutions. From 2022 to 2024, my lupus became so severe that I was unable to work. Today, I am able to work full-time as a nurse while also pursuing my education to become a nurse practitioner. I was able to plan my wedding and get married. I truly feel like I have my life back. It may not be the same life I had before lupus, but it is a life filled with far more gratitude for the good days and far more hope for what lies ahead. I remain hopeful about the research being done in systemic lupus erythematosus and the new therapies currently in clinical trials that may soon become FDA approved. And I know Dr. Beras Matos will be among the first to learn about them so he can continue providing his patients with more treatment options and a better quality of life. Systemic lupus can be a devastating diagnosis, as I learned in 2022. But four years later, I have learned that when you have a great rheumatologist by your side, it becomes far less frightening because you face it together, as a team.

Entitled, corrupt, petty - the most succinct words to describe the office staff here, which…read moreunfortunately reflects just as negatively upon the doctors for being complicit with their decision to keep them employed despite recurrent complaints about them. I booked months in advance, and initially received the paperwork to fill out and noticed several office errors in it - not a great look, but not uncommon. Then days before the scheduled appointment I get a couple of calls about issues with my insurance, so I call them back and leave a message. Eventually I am able to speak to the verification of benefits individual who tells me she cancelled the appointment already. Nice. She also proves to be one of the most rude, unqualified, dishonest people I've ever had the displeasure to talk with. She says she is having issues verifying my insurance. After several minutes of rude discourse, I find out they incorrectly recorded my insurance information, so I tell them the correct information and almost immediately she said it still isn't working...So i send over a picture of my insurance card, she says she contacted my insurance and is waiting for a fax to verify benefits...in 2026...strange...Don't hear back from her so I call Cigna and ask if they sent the fax and they tell me they don't need to use fax to send a proof of benefits letter (so lie #1 from verification of benefits person) and so Cigna sent it immediately to the office staff instead. I eventually get a call the verification benefits individual and she precedes to tell me they can't take me because my insurance is HMO (lie #2, my plan is Open Access Plus) and that I need a referral. I told her if that's the case, my PCP referred me to a different rheumatologist already so I could ask my PCP to change the rheumatologist referral to their office if they truly need a referral. She says they still can't accept my insurance (so lie #3). I ask if I could just pay out of pocket then and she claims they don't accept that either (lie #4). So I call Cigna again, they tell me I don't have HMO and don't need a referral with the Open Access plan so they call them and are likewise confused why they are refusing me because the office staff are telling them I need a referral and still won't accept me even if I have one. So I call the office front desk and ask if they accept Cigna Open Plus Plan and am told "yes". So I explain the situation and the front desk connects me with some administrator there who tells me they can't accept me because my insurance is a "3rd party multi plan" (lie #5). Called Cigna, they say the office is wrong and there are no "3rd party" plans. Now the office is just telling me and Cigna they just simply don't want me as a patient without further explanation (at least they finally stopped making up false reasons). Truly the worst "customer service" I've likely ever experienced. In case the office staff reads this: just know that one day you (like each one of us) will be face-to-face with God and have to give an accounting of, and answer for, evils and sins you've committed in life, regardless of whether you choose to believe in Him or not.

That is not the case when it comes to Dr DeJesus he is very caring. Always listens to my issues, checks my range of motion. Very understanding of this condition because it is personal to him. The staff may be overwhelmed at times when it comes to return a phone call or getting you a prescription. They always seem to work that out if you just show up I can't say enough good things about this doctor that really has a heart for his patients. If you're having a hard time finding a good rheumatologist he's definitely one of the best in San Antonio.

I was in excruciating pain due to my arthritis but he was not concerned with my needs at all and didn't listen to anything I had to say about my condition. He even took me off of a medication routine that was working for me which significantly increased my pain and suffering. When I called his office a few days later to ask for a refill of the anti inflammatory he had taken me off of he said I had to come back for another visit before he could prescribe what he had just taken me off of in spite of the pain I was in. Also, his office cancelled my follow up appointment with less than 24 hrs notice. I advised my ortho of the situation and how horrible the experience was and I believe he will be recommending someone else in the future. IMO Dr DeJesus is only interested in taking advantage of your insurance payouts and telling you about himself. He is NOT in business to help people get better.

Transformative Recovery at Catalyst Physical Therapy - Highly Recommended!…read moreI had been unable to walk or bear weight on my right leg for two full years, with my muscles atrophied to the point where I relied on a walker for mobility. My first experience with another physical therapy group lasted 8.5 months, but their mundane exercises lacked focus on rehabilitating my hip, leaving me no closer to independence--I was still dependent on the walker. Switching to Catalyst Physical Therapy was a game-changer. In just 10 weeks, I've made incredible progress and am on the verge of ditching the walker in favor of a cane. This milestone feels monumental! I have nothing but praise for the therapists at Catalyst. Walking into the waiting room, you'll often hear unsolicited endorsements from other patients--about half the time, someone will chime in, declaring it the best physical therapy they've ever experienced, with results far superior to anywhere else. What sets Catalyst apart is Jorge Guerrero's leadership in selecting and overseeing a team of exceptional therapists who truly understand injuries, the human body, and the precise rehabilitation needed. Their treatments are targeted, goal-oriented, and designed to restore normal function by addressing the specific areas requiring attention. Based on my transformative journey, there's no other physical therapy practice I'd trust or recommend more highly. I give Catalyst Physical Therapy the highest possible rating--5 stars all the way! If you're seeking real results, this is the place to go.

But I worked for a rehab therapy agency for 11 years and saw how much good comes when patients are treated by A+ therapists. In May 2021 I fell in the shower and tore my rotator cuff after already struggling with frozen shoulder; I needed pain relief and rehab STAT. I was evaluated and treated by Michael Landin, PT, and depended on him for pain relief for two years. After shoulder rehab ended, my whole body needed a lot of attention, but no matter what we tried I wasn't really improving. When Mike left in April of 2023, I transferred to Jorge, because I had watched him for two years and knew he was the best PT I had ever seen, and, well, only the best for this princess! TBH, I was so loyal to Mike that it took me some time to trust Jorge completely but letting him treat me was definitely the right decision. Jorge works hard to figure out my weird body, and I am extremely grateful for his sharp skills and superior knowledge. He has helped me make so much progress and I can finally feel and see the difference in my body. I now trust him implicitly and credit him with helping me more than any health care practitioner ever has. I seek to surround myself with people who inspire me and Jorge does so without fail WHILE helping me heal and figure out my body's quirks. I usually leave feeling like I learned something and can grow into a healthier version of me. Obviously, I am a believer and could proselytize all day, but the bottom line is you should consider this place if you need PT, you WILL NOT be sorry!

I had to tell them several times that was not my intention. The NP for EMILY PINEDA is condescending, and it should be noted the walls are thin so YES, we can hear when you go to the next room and talk bad about "US" the patients! I have it on recording and reporting it! They should tell you when making the appt is you need to know EXACT time frames of how long symptoms last and what triggers it. I'm sorry but for someone who has to get up and still function and provide, I sometimes don't not have time to sit and dwell! Which apparently to the NP meant " I don't know anything about my symptoms or what I'm talking about." However, Dr. Pineda then walked in the room and said because "I was there" they would proceed with a blood work panel. WOW! How lucky am I! This place is a JOKE! And they know it, I called to reschedule my follow up appointment and that's when the lady asked "do you plan to return" Even she knows this place is a joke and major RED FLAG as I have never been asked that right away when trying to reschedule an appointment. So I took that as a sign and said actually no I wont be. They instantly deactivated my account and said I had until end of day to get my medical records from the portal, and they WOULD NOT send to my PCP. Luckily, I downloaded them before as the account is now deactivated but still left without an explanation of what these mean or even an apology. Don't waste your time here if your goal is to feel better and have your quality of life back! Because you won't get it!
