Purchased these for an event honoring my granddaughters life & raising awareness about teen dating violence, so we had around 70 people there watching, was super embarrassing. I loved how knowledgeable Daryl was about butterflies and his generosity for offering a plant for free with our order, over the phone. I paid $325 for 75 butterflies thinking I was getting the same size/quality I got from Mr butterflies for the recent anniversary of my granddaughters passing, their butterflies were large and beautiful. Unfortunately Emma's were not. The 75 butterflies were very small and seemed mothlike in size. I can see the comparison between moths and butterflies that other people mentioned. I was told that I needed to release them 1 hour prior to sunset in order to have them active & fly away. Sunset was at 8 so we released at 7 and only 3 flew away, the rest sat in the box. Which isn't his fault however these were very small and didn't have the impact that the ones I bought online did. Based on this experience with the quality of butterflies I dont recommend buying theim for mass release. Not sure about any of the other products/services so I cant speak to those. read more

We had a great experience with Emma's Butterfly Ranch last week. I spoke with Darryl beforehand, and he was very responsive in answering all my questions. I order painted lady butterflies in individual release envelopes for my mom's celebration of life memorial, and picked up the package from Riverside a few days later with no issues. I needed butterflies last minute and I had another butterfly company give me this company information. He did give me a far warning. When I got there it was a house that wasn't super clean. They came in these small triangle Once I was about to release them more then 9 of them were dead. 3 of them didn't want to fly.. and we ended up just putting down on the grass. I felt so bad.. I tried to contact the owner and he didn't answer. I called 2x and I think I was blocked lol! I won't be buying live butterfly's again. I've been trying to help the Monarch population and was in need of some milkweed and some info. Daryl who runs the business was very knowledgeable and gave some helpful tips. There were so many different types of butterflies flying around. He has starter kits with baby caterpillars that are self contained and grow into butterflies. Great place for children. I am so disappointed with the butterflies I received. Was told I would be buying half white and half color butterflies. I arrive to pick up my butterflies. This women opens the door asks me what's my name. Not welcoming at all. Closes the door and I stay outside waiting for about 5 mins. She comes back to the door hands me the bag and a plant and says sorry for the inconvenience. I stayed guessing if she is going to give me any instructions as this is my first time purchasing butterflies. She answers me with just check the ice tonight. Gosh what poor customer service. I open the bag and the butterflies are small and all one color. I call them back and they say I can come back at noon, mind you I drove 55 min to pick them up. He offered to swap 2 of them out for 2 white ones but that they would be much smaller. They didn't care that they had promised me something else. Im soooo disappointed not what I wanted. I had a great experience picking up butterflies for my daughter birthday. Jeanie lady that works there is amazing.

We called today, the day before our daughter's burial service, to ask if they would have butterflies available for us to pick up (I admit, a bit last minute, but our other option fell through). My husband spoke to Darryl at around 11 am and let him know what we needed, he advised he wasn't home but would be home by 3 pm for us to pick up the butterflies. We drove from the IE and arrived to the address at 3:05 pm. My husband rang the doorbell and called him twice, to which there was no answer. We waited about 20 minutes and then I called from my phone. Darryl picked up and couldn't even recall the conversation he had with my husband, then proceeded to say he was an hour away. We couldn't wait as we have our daughter's viewing tonight. He should've just let us know he was unavailable instead of making us waste the time and gas driving out to Yorba Linda. On Jan 16th we were in a bind with my daughters early science project for a butterfly habitat and life cycle. The teacher had all the parents purchase the kits from Amazon on the same date. This was deliberately planned so that all the students would have a combined release date. However, within the week of receiving our butterfly kit our caterpillars died. (It didn't help that we purchased them in the Winter season.) However, my daughter was in distress because she wanted to partake in the program and release her own butterflies. I searched everywhere for any place that would sell live caterpillars and stumbled across this gem of a place. We called in and reached Darryl who was very knowledgeable and understanding of our situation. We drove to the Emma's Butterfly Ranch and he had everything ready for us to purchase. We needed a little bit of everything. 2 cocoons, 3 caterpillars and a milkweed plant. He explained the food process and gave me plenty to keep our beautiful caterpillars alive. It is now, Feb 11th and we are releasing our final 2 butterflies on this sunny day. I also shared our experience with my daughter's teacher and gave her a copy of Darryl's card so that they can just purchase them from here next time. What makes it worst is that we've been trying to get our money back, and for almost a month now from the wedding, they still haven't given us back our money. Daryl was very helpful and friendly. The only thing that was kind of off putting was that his dog is one of those aggressive/scared little dogs that will constantly bark at you and whomever you're with. My experience so far with this company has been dreadful. I spent $400 in butterflies for a memorial of someone very dear to me. I arranged for pick up the day before but when the time came the owner (who's name is either Darryl or Garral) was supposedly 2 hours away running errands. He told me the butterflies would be delivered to the church on the day of the memorial. During the memorial service (in the Catholic Church) I wasn't able to sit with co-workers/friends because I needed to be by the door to be able to leave without disruption to get the butterflies. I had to text the owner to ask the eta and he sends me a text saying the butterflies will not be delivered due to the weather and he should've explained that in our first conversation. Was he even going to let me know?! I had to text him and ask what time...Bad business! Not to mention a devastated family who was looking forward to the butterfly release who I had to give the terrible news to. As if they weren't already dealing with enough! The deceased raised monarchs in her backyard and we wanted something to really honor and cherish her Supposedly they will be delivering the butterflies this Tuesday to try again. Hopefully, they arrive and I don't have to report them. I should have read the other reviews prior to ordering the butterflies. I hope they rectify this situation and I can update this review. We had been raising caterpillars from a Milk Plant in our backyard and really got into it. When we didn't see anymore we contacted Emma's and they completely took care of us. My kids and I live 2hrs away, due to the extreme weather we didn't want to risk the caterpillars arriving dead if ordered online so we took the drive.
