We enjoyed a showing of the Rocky Horror Picture Show. The venue was great, old school movie theatre. They had concessions on two sides inside the theatre in back of the seating area. I'm not going to bore anyone with a long history of the theatre because if you are from the area you likely have some idea and if you're not then you probably don't care anyway. http://www.emmaustheatre.com/theatrehistory.html http://www.emmaustheatre.com/history.html This place is one of the last single screen theatres in the Lehigh Valley along with The Roxy in Northampton and Shankweiler's in Orefield. The rules of the road here are simple: 1. Admission is $4 for adults, $3 for children under 11/seniors over 60 along with all matinees and shows on Monday thru Thursday night. 2. Keep your ticket stub and take a peek over at the concession stand because they give away free popcorn every show based on ticket stub numbers. 3. Only one screen and the theatre is loooooong so it's best to sit towards the front as the sound is stronger coming from the front of the room. Also a slight quirk is that the theatre sits next to a very active set on Norfolk Southern tracks and more then likely once or twice during the show you will get some decent horn noise along with the floor and seats vibrating a bit if you are sitting on the side closest to the tracks. 4. Sit back and enjoy not being assaulted with thirty minutes of commercials and ads along with previews. The only thing here they preview is either for what they are showing next or the movie that they are showing on weekends/earlier in the night for families. So put down the iPad/iPhone/iPod/Nook/Kindle/Smart Phone/Dumb Phone and take a trip back to a simpler time when going to see a movie was about the movie and not about all the unnecessary bells and whistles on the periphery. Bar none when The Boyd in Bethlehem closed this place took over for best place to watch a movie in the LV. read more

This is one of my favorite places in the entire Valley. Almost every weekend they have a late-night BYOB throwback cult favorite. The tickets are cash only but can be ordered online ahead of time. (This is usually unnecessary; I have never been to one that was even close to being sold out.) Bring some beer or a bottle of wine, buy some cheap popcorn and candy, and sit back in the old movie seats. The screen isn't huge, the sound is okay, and the train runs right past the theater at least once during the movie. It all adds to the nostalgia, and I just love it. read more

I've grown up going to this historic theater. Where else can you get a ticket, a soda and popcorn for less than $10? The seats are fairly new, comfortable and have cup holders (the old ones did not!). Once you buy your ticket, you have a chance of winning a free popcorn, soda or taking $2 off your snack stand order which is always a fun perk! There is a NEW owner as of this summer! He's younger and seems very nice. I had to take away one star because there is a slight tear in the movie screen (only noticeable when the scene on the screen is very 'white') and of course, the Emmaus train adds an extra element of '4D' when it rumbles by once or twice per movie and shakes you in your seat! I find it unique and fun. This is one of my favorite theaters and I feel lucky that it's so close to my home. read more

I have always loved this theater for many years, I recently rented the theater for a birthday party for 300.00 Sophia and her crew were amazing.... all was great. My only issue was the up charge for setting up.... the owner gives no set up time if you're having a party, he does charge an extra 50 .00 if you need set up time which I thought was very high. So if you get the 3 hour time slot make sure you allow set up within that time or its extra other then that we did had a great time though. read more

Great theater. They got a new screen recently, so the movies are digital, just like at a standard theater. Plus the movies they show haven't been out of theaters long, usually not more than a few weeks. If you hate previews and commercials, this is the place for you. They never show more than a couple previews, often none. I love that it's run by nice, local people. The staff is friendly, and it's so fun that they give away free concessions (check your ticket stub!). And even if you don't get your snack for free, they are reasonably priced. It's the only theater where I don't cringe when my husband buys a large Coke. read more

Great atmosphere and always a very enjoyable experience. Also very good value if you don't mind waiting a few weeks for movies to arrive after they have been released. We have been taking our kids there for 10 years, and must have saved hundreds of dollars on the cheaper tickets and very reasonably priced candy and popcorn. They also have a water fountain at the back of the theater if you want to avoid the soda. Every month they play old classic movies where you can bring some beer and friends with you ..LOL. I love this place .. a huge asset to our town. read more

This is a little known secret of the area. It's quaint and well run. There is a certain energy here and everyone seems to love working here who does. Despite having one theatre it seems the sound system is pretty high tech and current. The popcorn is good and there is a good selection of plenty of other snacks. This is the best of the original movie theaters Lehigh Valley has. My first visit to the Emmaus Theatre was back in the 1940s and aside from the bigger screen and better sound, it hasnt changed much. The train still runs by and shakes the place; The movie never starts on time until the last patron leaves the refreshment stand, and nobody ever wins the lucky ticket stub. The roof has finally been repaired and the ceiling stains gone. Up until recently when the management was required to spend big bucks to change to digital projection, this was the cheapest place to see a movie. It still is cheap, but more importantly, it is a clean, local movie house with reasonable snack bar prices (and they probably make more from the snack bar than they do from admissions). The picture and sound is great and it is a real bargain all around. Get there early as there is no parking lot, just street parking. This is truly small town Americana, the type of movie house all little towns once had, but are almost all gone. A marvelous experience no matter what is playing! read more

I'm updating my review of Emmaus Theater that I gave on 3/28/2014. There are new owners to the theater and they seem like they have been working hard to make the theater welcoming to all. We visited the theater recently after being told of the new owners. The owners were very friendly and helpful. We really enjoyed our visit and do plan on returning again.
