Normally, I visit the Post for pool and cheap drinks…read more This was the very reason I stopped at this Post, except for a bunch of cool old Bingo experts suckered me into spending $30-$40 on bingo. Approaching the door, this building was a lot larger than the typical Posts I frequent. As I opened the door, I saw 1000s of square footage and rows and rows of tables, being quickly filled by bingo players. As I stood with my mouth wide open, this frail elderly woman basically told me to move my ass out the way so she could by her bingo books and get a good seat ha-ha! I laughed and asked her what I needed to do. She told me to take it up with the bingo book sellers - meaning she had no time for this newbie. I smiled and let her in front of me. After she bought the winning bingo book :), I talked to some friendlier elderly women, who helped get me my necessities and even helped during game time. By the time I stepped out the line, I knew how to play, who to ask if I had any questions and made 3 new fellow women friends! Clearly, I didn't win because "stuck-in-her-ways" took the opportunity from me, but I would be lying if i told you I sat next to a stranger. I found a seat next to her and began to ask questions just to irritate her :D Moral of the story, play bingo with the old folks. It's a joyous moment to live in!

The downtown Atlanta Capital City Club which is the one I visited was designed by Beaux-Arts-trained architect Donn Barber in the Georgian style that characterizes prestigious New York City clubs such as the Colony Club. I came as a guest but you must be a member or escorted by a member to access this location, I have heard of weddings being held here as well. Very nice accommodations and a well stocked bar. The food was very nice as well. I could definitely see the enjoyment of being a member here, there is a very strict dress code as well. Gentlemen may not wear hats of any kind, shorts, jeans, open-toed shoes or shirts without collars. But once you're past all that, all drinks are on the house and you can have a really good time here!

"A social organization to promote the pleasure, kind feeling and general culture of its members."…read more The Capital City Club was founded in 1883 by the pioneers of Atlanta industry and finance. It's one of the oldest private social clubs in the south. Truly five star, triple platinum service and amenities. I enjoyed my parents 45th anniversary dinner on the front porch a couple of weeks ago. The food was.. as always.. excellent. We were served the clubs signature buttery toasted crackers, some fresh oatmeal rolls with an assortment of butters and olive tapenade. I had the grilled octopus appetizer which was so tender and delicious. It was nicely marinated and grilled to absolute perfection with a complex balsamic vinegar glaze, and served over micro greens. I ordered the 16oz dry aged ribeye with a side of the most amazing truffle mashed potatoes I've ever had. They certainly don't skimp on the highest quality ingredients that can be obtained! The kitchen sent us an assortment of 4 or 5 sweet delights for dessert to share. We also enjoyed the live entertainment that was provided outside. So very pleasant. It was a fantastic evening as always. I look forward to returning very soon!
