I didnt care for the beef empanada I got from here. Reminded me of the meat in a frozen meat patty.

If you haven't had a chance to get to this place you better get in your car and head there right this second the food tastes as good as it smells and the friendly staff always has what you need. The food was greasy and almost tasteless. Sadly for me, I was attached to a toilet for almost three days after eating at the Woodbridge location. My guess is that something was bad or the oil was old. Never again! Beware. read more

This truck was at a food truck festival, I ordered a rice and bean empanada, I was told they had one left what I received was a bowl of rice and beans... annoyed... Mediocre. Not sure what all the fuss is about. Tried it twice. First time was at the truck in Old Bridge. Waited 15 minutes for two empanadas (there was only one person ahead of us). The meat empanada was ok, but was cold in the middle. The veggie empanada was actually more like a samosa, and was flavored with curry. Second time was in port reading. Once again, it took 10 minutes, even though I was the only one there. Paid $8 for a tiny cubano. Once again, it was cold in the middle, and wasn't pressed as traditional cubano sandwiches are supposed to be. read more

I had heard from some of our friends about Empanada Guy and that we needed to check them out after I professed my love of empanadas and that I hoped to find some authentic ones in the local area. We saw that they had two trucks at Laurita Winery and decided to get in line to try them. The line had about 15 people ahead of us, but we noticed that it was moving at lightning speed. I was surprised at the amount of options they had, and we decided to split a chicken empanada. When we got to the front of the line I noticed that behind the ordering counter was some type of heated cabinet with containers for the empanadas. I was so disappointed that they were not made fresh to order. I realize that this system was implemented to be able to turn over as many customers as possible in a short amount of time, but I do think that the experience at Empanada Guy would be exponentially better if they were made to order. Our empanada was decent, but it did have the quality of something that had been sitting in a heater - it was only warm and I wish it was hot when it was served to us. I do have to say though, they were a good size for the price and the chicken was nicely seasoned. I was expecting the shell of the empanada to be a golden brown color and more on the crispy side, but it was instead very light in color and more flaky than crunchy. I wouldn't go out of my way to eat here again, but if I was starving and they were around I would grab one read more

Drove 25 minutes out of my way to try it my for self. Heard lots of good things about the empanadas. I have to admit that the chicken was awesome. I wants too crazy about the beef. In fact I could not finish it because I didnt like it as much. As for the prices, it was a mugging! way over priced!!! Someone already said it, "I had better for half the price in N. Bergen". Empanada Man was a total disappointment. My husband & I waited on line for over an hour at the Truck Mashup at the Meadowlands we ordered Chicken & Beef they had absolutely no flavor being Puerto Rican we know what Latin flavor should taste like & this was so not it. To top it off they were extreamly Greasy & over priced. For the price of 1 empanada you can buy a pack of 24 & make it yourself. read more

They have a location in Old Bridge now that I went to, and being such a foodie I was just stoked they had a food truck nearby. I've had some really good empanadas and I usually am disappointed with the lack of good ones in NJ. I ordered the chicken and beef empanadas, both were $3 a piece, which isn't too bad. The chicken one was pretty good, and juicy, and was alot bigger then i thought it would be. But when you bite into it, you can see it wasn't as filled as it seemed because it was filled with air. But nonetheless, it was still pretty tasty. I'm not too picky, and I was happy I was able to get a decent empanada close by. The beef one def wasn't my favorite. It seemed mushy and wasn't as juicy. I wanted to really like this place because I love empanadas, but for food it's just ok, I'm more of a fan because of its location, and the fact it's the only place around to get a decent empanada. It would be nice to come with a dope sauce to go with them, but thats just my preference. read more

I just stopped by on my way back home with the family. My daughter just had asked if we could do a food truck road trip someday so this was a perfect opportunity to begin that journey and quite convenient. We had the beef, chicken, apple cinnamon empanadas, a Cuban sandwich. They all were all great and the service was on point, very personable. It was a very cold day but it was worth the wait. I have had Cuban sandwiches before in NYC and Miami and this one was very good. Bread, meat, cheese, and pickles all on point. I'm a fan and wish "Empanada Guy" well and plan to see him again, happy eating! read more

I visited his new store in Freehold NJ. Purchased 7 empanadas to go-- every single one was filled with air!!! I would say that there was only a tablespoon of filling in each one!! I payed for air!!!! I will not be visiting again. I first at them from his truck in Oceanport NJ--they were delish! and that's what drove me to drive 14 miles to his new store. After all the hype I tried a beef empanada on July 16, 2014 in Mahwah NJ . First off $4, are you serious? Was from truck No. 3. Empanada was very greasy and tasted ok. I can see why someone would think they are great if they never had the real deal made from grandma or mom. I can make a better empanada, and do! If you are a person who eats real Spanish food on a normal basis you would think the same. Maybe the truck I chose wasn't the real deal. maybe the resturant is better, don't know. I was in my town walked into a Dominican restaurant and walked out with 2 empanadas for $2 in under a min. For about $8 I can make 10 myself. Would I go back. NO! I've tried the crab, chicken, and beef - those are my favorites in that order. the crab empanada is phenomenal. the rice & beans is a good size portion. the service has always been quick, I've come here over 10 times.
