Where do I begin! Empire beauty school is an amazing school filled with amazing administrators! Mrs G is always so supportive and helpful! Always gives great advice and is always so patient when teaching how to do anything. I am so grateful to have her as my teacher. There is never a dull moment in class with Mrs G she makes learning fun! Not to mention how talented she is that lady's hands are blessed and I am blessed to have her as an instructor! Ms Grier is also very sweet and patient she always speaks to everyone is always giving little tips and tricks to help one become successful. Ms Grier always has an uplifting spirit! Mrs B I have not had the pleasure of having her as an instructor just yet but she does drop in our class from time to Time to motivate the class and always compliments our work! Mrs Johnson is also supportive and I feel comfortable to come to her with anything! She makes it very clear that our school has an open door policy which I love! I had a very disappointing experience at Empire Beauty School in Concord on August 14, 2026. I want to acknowledge that Ori was phenomenal during my previous visit, which is why I returned, and Ms. K was also professional, kind, and handled my hair with care. Unfortunately, the student I initially received this time was the complete opposite. I will provide her name in my formal complaint. I told her I was tender-headed, but my hair was still handled roughly, her tone was dismissive, and the snide comments continued. She also seemed more focused on her cell phone than on me as the customer. What was most disappointing were the indirect remarks about "it's a beauty school" and "you can't please everyone." Being a student does not excuse disrespect or poor customer service. Ori and Ms. K showed that excellent service can absolutely exist in a learning environment. Unfortunately, what I experienced on 8/14/26 was customer disservice. I hope management takes this seriously because how you treat people matters just as much as technical skill. read more

As a professional in the beauty system since 1989, I support the local training schools. I just moved to Charlotte and made an appt for a wash/dry and pedicure. My appt was in March with Cristen at 1pm. I showed up at 12:50 and waited. I saw all the other gals being picked up by their students and it was 1:25 before my student showed up. It wasn't Cristen, it was Skyler. A tall, gender neutral person which I'm fine with although wasn't told how to address. Skyler took me to a chair, said a wash/dry and pedi. Skyler turned my chair so I couldn't look in the mirror, I knew the fl. mgr. was behind her, I think directing. We went to the wash bowl and during that wash missed the back of my head. I didn't say anything as I could tell Skyler had little experience. Supposedly these student were to graduate in May, after almost all training done. Back to get blown dry which again was very novice. I could see the other students, eyes darting over to us and back, something/someone was out of place. We proceeded then to the pedi chair/tub. Skyler got sheets of directions and off to get supplies. Skyler returned and filled the unlined pedi tub with 1 inch of water, didn't even cover my toes. I'm now in amazement at the lack of training. No foot, leg treatment. Skyler was reading line to line on the directions. I had to take a business call as Skyler is attempting to treat my toe nails. Absolutely didn't know how to file, etc. Now the base coat goes on nail but skin also. Skyler started to apply polish and the brush was way over the nail onto the skin sides and top of my nailbed. No attempt to remove it. I finally couldn't take it and said, you can't leave polish on the skin. I asked for a qtip or something to wipe off the sides of all my toes as this is incorrect. I have never seen such inexperience as a student. They have to do so many services to pass their class. After I completely removed polish from the skin on the sides of my nails, the fl. mgr came over to check her work, said it looked good. I should have left it for her to see the worst nail painting but wanted to help Skyler. I checked out but went back weeks later thinking maybe Skyler could use some serious tips but the front desk made excuses why I could see "her". I went into to see the school mgr. told her of my experience. She nodded at my comments, I even offered to do a teaching lesson to no avail. My opinion, I don't think Skyler was a student there. Its a shame this had to happen as i would have gone back to offer my hair and appendages for learning. I also would have recommended to friends as I know the student need to practice on different types of hair. read more

Sometimes people forget that this is a school. I had the pleasure of being served by Ezaria. I originally wanted a flat twist but when I learn that she felt most accomplished in flatironing my hair, we agreed to do that instead. So glad we did. I've learned to do this when I go to hair schools so that both the student and I feel successful at the end. Although she's a student I felt like I was in Good hands and that she was trying her best. She really wanted to take good care of me. My hairstyle came out perfectly. Would a professional stylus have done much better. Absolutely but people these are students and they are learning. Thank you so much and I look forward to seeing What style my next visit will result in. If you are willing to flex to your students' needs you will be happier as a customer. Or if you want them to try a new style that would be fine too. The point is they will try their best to accommodate you and I really appreciate it. read more

After following up with Business Director , I was offered a "do over " if you will. The Manager invited me to come back and get that hair perm appointment that I first had intended to get, promising me it would be completely a better experience. I came back today and was greeted by the student at the reception desk as well as by Mary. the Business Manager. I was promptly taken back to the hair station where I was greeted and handed off to the student Zakiyyah who would be working with me today. Zakiyyah aka Kiyyah worked her magic and did an amazing job with my hair. Attentive to the details and full of personality she has her sights on a promising future as a hair stylist . She will Graduate in June. The school has students in all phases of learning but the advanced students would be the ones working on your hair. The students always do a great job on my blowout and I have pretty long thick hair. I love how they scrub my head. I want to try a facial here. Brow wax was great also-they use hard wax first time I ever had that but they did a great job! Recommend them for sure. 4 stars for the Design Essential hair product line. 4 stars for the knowledgeable students that can relax hair and major KUDOS for the Instructors, Ms. B and the other middle age black lady because they do care and they check in. Things are slow in terms of starting but make an appointment if possible. Same day appointments not allowed. Skin, nails and toes are available service options. I dont go to this school in particular but due to covid i had a TERRIFIC OPPORTUNITY TO MEET MRS.GIBSON as an zoom teacher she was the only reason i pasted most of the quiz, test, etc in pre salon and her state board reviews phenomenal. She always had her hand stretched out to each and every student so no one was left in the unknown. i never would've thought i could get so close to someone through a screen. She made it all the much better when shed joke around with us and have a great time while still being professional. now im an advanced student with a few months left till I graduate All thanks to Pineville teachers. I have gone to Empire since moving to Charlotte. After Pineville location closed I tried the University empire. The wait was an hour + to see a student . The instructor had limited involvement. I asked for 7 foils and a cut. The highlights were drastically different in brightness. The student was hesitant. She didn't ask about a cut and I was happy to for go more anxiety Generally at Pinville Ms D( now at Paul Mitchell) or Ms B supervise My last trip the floor was busy. Ms A started the student for my Bob undercut. The student was trying to follow technique. It must have been taking too long. Ms A gathered my hair in a nap ponytail and cut it. Did some texturizing and done. At home the dropline was too short too cut more off but worse it was jagged. I have trusted my hair to empire for years but have had a few bad experiences read more

Trust me don't go here Worst experience I had. I went for hair cut . just wanted simple trimming and layers. She was a student and took long long time to cut my hair. Moreover she was so confused and didn't know how to do it. She asked help from here supervisor and supervisor says" you know it and you do it".she showed nothing .what the hell you do it. It's my hair. I have been to some beauty school before and supervisor never leave a person alone after she says she don't know it. At least show her how to do. After an hour she finished. She did nothing, not at all and I show that supervisor was just sitting and talking to it hers and laighing... is this a joke? read more

Had an appointment, after 20 minutes I still hadn't been called, no follow up or anything.. While waiting I started observing the students and wonder who I was going to be paired with. They were looking at the clientele with a sense of superiority, did not look approachable or friendly. This is when I decided to cancel my appointment. The older receptionist was friendly and asked if I would like to reschedule. I do understand that is a school and a lot of theses girls are young but you should remind them that at the end of the day it is about customer service and connecting with their clientele. I paid to get my hair curls and my hair looks terrible. It looks like its only been blow dried. My hair has no body or shine.

I recently came to this location for a simple roller set. I was having a horrible day I locked my keys in my car and waited for a locksmith for hours . So by the time I arrived at my appointment I was exhausted and ready to call it quits. When I walked in I was greeted by a very pleasant young lady who went above and beyond to make sure my day went great from that point on .Ms Knotts fed me words of positivity and encouragement. And when she saw no one was available at the moment she offered to style me herself. I want to personally Ms. Knotts for going above and beyond to make my day wonderful. She is appreciate. read more

I went in not expecting to have great service. After all, its a school right? I knew it would take a long time and I would be used as a experiment. However, I received color and it turned out awful. My color never took in spots, and I have whole segments of hair that are my original color. It was not saturated with color, which is funny because I paid extra for it since I have thick hair. My stylist said she told the instructor and they told her to not mention anything to me. This terrible job took 4 and 1/2 to receive. My forehead is dyed from all the color that was not wiped out or protected. I will never return. Having to pay to get it fixed and risk damaging my hair. read more

If you want your hair done right I wouldn't go here so obviously they don't teach their students to do every type of hair I had a girl (student) to wash my hair make a long story short I let the instructor know that my hair was not clean and the instructor showed her how to wash my hair still the student was I felt nervous and inexperienced so me being the nice person iam left their hair wet and dirty paid for a wash that I didn't receive because of course my hair was still dirty and went to a different salon and paid for a wash and roller set what I wanted in the beginning. I have been a couple times and have gotten Adria (aka Alexis) every time. I really appreciated the time she took to ensure I had a clean scalp during the shampooing process. Also the instructor is really nice and had given the stylist some tips for my particular scale condition and Adria followed the direction.
