As far as the service is there, I have not had a bad experience so far every student has done amazing my complaint is I purchased a membership months back and I read all the fine detail and the instructor that day told me to come in once a week and when I read the fine print, it told me it was monthly and I brought this up to her. She goes no no I am telling you coming weekly so I did that for a few months nothing was ever said then all of a sudden one instructors brought up to me that this was a monthly thing and so we went back-and-forth cause I told her I understood that but I was told to go ahead and come so I just need to get their story straight. I understand what the contract and I have no problem paying for what I come in for, but when I'm told something I was taking advantage of what I was told and then you know it's not the first time it's been brought up to me so that is what I have a problem with not everybody's on the same page in there, but the students are phenomenal read more

Went every 4 weeks to this salon for 2 years, until ... the manager there took it upon herself to demand she would book me with a man she had in mind, though I didn't ask her opnion on my next booking. Then she said : Don' t hink you can override my decision and book with someone else. Well I did override her decision -- I BOOKED AT A DIFFERENT SALONG. The worse experience I have ever had at Paul Mitchell, the quality of the entire experience, professionalism, and disregard of request has become disrespectfully disgusting. I had a (while very sweet) very inexperienced young girl attempt to destroy my hair from the roots..I've been going here for years and never left, like looked in the mirror and literally cried or been THIS disappointed. I ALWAYS order a phase 2 they put me with a phase 1....always request NATURAL ETHNIC hair experienced...she was 18 with none...her words. I won't be making this hour and 30 minute trip to have my hair FALL OUT OF MY HEAD after this...I tried to go back and have them try to fix it and the woman I spoke to was so completely rude and just had no consideration for what they had done. I'm so disappointed with how the Paul Mitchell brand has come to be. I have always had pleasant experiences here until today. My 11 year old granddaughter was out of school and rather than leave her home 35 minutes away, she came with her tablet prepared to wait in the lobby. the instructor spoke to the student and said "they couldn't be responsible for her sitting in the lobby". First of all, no one asked you to be responsible for her and secondly, why as the "adult" couldn't you speak to me yourself? she only came because we live so far away . no one asked you or your students to babysit or be responsible for her. Dakota Murray at the Paul Mitchell School did a much better haircut than the $50 ones I had been getting at a famous area salon!!!! I am going to have her do my hair from now on, and I'll follow her wherever she goes when she graduates! She was very precise and ensured she new exactly what I wanted. Throughout the process, she let me know what she was planning before she did it - to make sure I was on the same page. My specialty salon doesn't do that! Over the last 20 years I have gone to several Paul Mitchell schools hair for salon as well as facial services. After my experience today with the paul Mitchell School I will no longer be recommending them or be using them myself. I booked an appointment, called to make sure that I could bring my young son with me and I was told it was fine. Nowhere did it State that children are not allowed in the back during services nor was I told when I called and asked that children are not allowed in the back during services. When I got there and they saw my son they proceeded to ask me if somebody was going to watch them and I said no. That's when the lady looked at me and said oh did you book the appointment online and I said no. I actually called and I gave them the name of the person I spoke to. I don't appreciate the fact that I traveled 35 minutes with my son to get a haircut. Nowhere near did anybody say anything to me till I arrived with my son that I couldn't get my service done because children were not allowed in the back. Not to mention the two ladies that were behind the front desk were rude and not helpful. They didn't offer to rebook my appointment. They didn't explain where it was listed on the website nor did they say they would talk to the person I spoke with on the phone to make sure the correct information gets out. When I asked if I could speak to a manager, I was given a harsh note. I let the two front desk staffers know that all I want to do was explain that things need to be consistent across the board and that it needs to make clear that children are not allowed in the back. At Phase 2 they give me the BEST haircut in the whole world!!!!!! I am picky...I want a PAHHHHH haircut...an haircut I can style with my hands... I have been exclusively at this place for several years every 4-6 weeks. Every students always does a a great job because of a GREAT teacher, Leslie! Leslie is the QUEEN of HAIR CUTTING! Leslie has a bubbling personality...always happy, smiling, jocking with the students and TEACHING. I gave my two phase one students a pretty big feat! I wanted to take my dead, light brown and red hair, and get an ash brown balayage! MiKayla and CrisAnn were so friendly and they did an incredible job! Tiffany was their floor instructor and she was seriously so helpful and supportive of them when they needed help! The only reason I didn't give 5 stars is because it took a really long time. I expected to be there for a couple hours but I was there for 6 hours...but they did a great job and I will definitely go back and ask for MiKayla or CrisAnn! read more

In light of my first bad review of this establishment- I went back in to give this place another shot of trying to fix and mend my hair. They did just that ! My hair was choppy and uneven telling from the pictures , but after leaving to get it fixed my hair feels more light and soft and looks beautiful!! They evened it out and made my hair very face framing and complimenting. I would say if you are booking an appointment to this place go ahead and book " phase 2" , it's the more experienced side- better safe than sorry and Leslie the teacher is wonderful! read more

I was super excited to use my Groupon for a hair cut and style at the Paul Mitchell School, I had been to the one in Annapolis MD and had a great experience! Although everyone at Paul Mitchell was very nice, my once one-length hair was chopped very unevenly when I asked for some long layers. My hair had been styled with waves when I left and it wasn't until l got home and really looked at my hair that I realized how uneven it was. I straightened my hair just to really see the layers and this is what I've been left with... I will now have to go somewhere else and most likely have to get a few inches taken off to try and blend the very short and uneven layers. (And yes, that is my hair completely down, straightened and parted to my normal side) read more

Overall, the experience was ok. It was a breeze making an appointment by the phone. They were pretty flexible. I didn't wait long for my appointment to start. The student that was doing my hair was very sweet and seemed pretty organized. I wanted a cut and style (just a trim and some whispy bangs) and some highlights. Yes, it takes a while for everything but they are students so you do need some patience. I was there for over 5 and a half hours. Overall, I liked the color of my hair and the trim that she did. What I didn't like was my bangs. She completely butchered my bangs. They were awful. She cut half of the right side of my head when I told her I just have side bangs. Half of my hair on that side was gone. I didn't even realize it until after I washed my hair. She must of realized what she did because she curled my hair like Shirley Temple when styling it even though I told her I just use a flat iron for styling. I had to go somewhere to try to get my bangs trimmed and fixed. Not much could be done other than making it not look so choppy. Now I have to pull my hair back with a bobby pins until my hair grows out. Next time I am just going to get my hair colored and not have a cut. read more

My only complaints: 1. It was impossible to make an appointment, i had to call the gastonia location to have them transfer me. I called at least 6 times and left messages. I also sent appointment requests. I am not sure if it's just after new hear, new hire for appointment specialist or something wrong with their phone system. 2. The front desk guy was kind of spacey. Well maybe i would be too if i was a receptionist, but then again, a job is a job so do it well and make it count! Bought the $10 yelp deal for wash, cut, dry and style. Worked like a charm, printed the deal out and handed that in when i checked in. Wait time was minimal, i'd say 10 min. Better than a lot of beauty schools i have been to. - modern, clean, welcoming set up - you can make an appointment, whereas some you have to go, try your luck, or wait for a while to get a cut or service. Go too late and get turned away. - all paul mitchell products, so good quality -everything seems sanitary It's always a hit or somewhat of a miss to go get a cut at the beauty school. It is not for you if you are on a time crunch, it takes at least 2 hours. These folks only have max up to 1 year of experience, but the instructor does supervise and check over. But you save a ton of money and it's a good deed to let students practice. It can also be good conversations too! read more

It is easy to make an appointment online. Got a confirmation within hours. Website made the process seamless. A+ for that Came in with extremely rough hair. I have worked in the hair industry for years so I knew what I wanted the end result to be. She did a great job with the consultation. Did not recommend any color to help heal my hair and I was super appreciative of that. Once the consultation is over, the Instructor comes, confirms consultation and goes over any concerns with yourself and the stylist. I did not even expect this and I really liked this aspect! My stylist was superb. Super sweet, great conversationalist and had the best intensions for my hair. The only thing I would critique is asking how I liked the ends blow dried. I personally don't like my hair looking like a little bob but that is just personal preference. Sad that she will be graduating in a couple of week weeks but so happy for her at the same time. Finally, at the end, when all is said and done... Another instructor will come and check your hair. Any issues you have, you can bring up then. I was pretty happy! Will be coming back, the front desk ladies were super helpful and extremely nice. I had a great experience from beginning to end! I would highly recommend. The director is Ms. Hunter and she's anything but polite, responsive nor professional in the customer service arena. Our student, Cleveland, will be the stand out star in this review. The floor under the receptionist booth is dirty. See pictures. The issue I have is a simple rod set as booked on the phone, reiterated at confirmation and consult could not be performed as it would "take too long." Now all this was said outside of my presence but today it wasn't a matter of taking too long but a matter of it couldn't be performed as the service requested, A roller set, wouldn't look right. This is maybe a c4 texture that's curly naturally. Just pull the hair and rod it. Well, now Ms. Hunter's premise is she wouldn't rod it based on how tightly curled the natural hair is...so the service would not have ever been performed because "it would NOT look done." Thank you for that but just give what's requested. We literally didn't want heat on the hair and so long as it was rolled we would have been perfectly happy. How would this have been known?? If this was the "true" issue then it could have been presented to me and I would have signed off on it. That's how. Well,TODAY, I was caught at the door my a leader supervising (after speaking with Hunter and the other employee instructor that was present) to sign off on the hair work. This is new as it wasn't asked before. I then run the theory that was just provided to me by Hunter. If the style won't look right will it be omitted? He was confused. I restated and then he provided the taught outcomes: Never say no to a client. but you can say no to a service. sounds reasonable. He provides: if a service can't be performed then they will offer two (2) alternatives. He goes on to say he wasn't here so he doesn't know what happened last time. My point: if that's the policy then it's immaterial who's present or not. Everyone should execute said policy and process. Whoa!!! Now, I'm decidedly disgusted. On top of that I learned today... it's $12 for the wash and dry Then another $12 for the flat iron. Quit it.... This is why Regency is out of business AND EXACTLY WHY I believe Paul Mitchell has limited their students to only a few types of texture hair. What I mean? If you only get to practice on 2 or 3 hair types.... when will you ever learn how to do all hair textures/types? S/N: Our fully licensed salon and separate stylists only charge $30/for cut, style and that includes sit under dryers. It's just that she's allllllllll the wayyyy over by UNCC and this is really right on the Gold line and coming from Uptown this location works for me. Price aside... The school is beautiful, clean and located in the uber-cool Elizabeth neighborhood. My class was terrific and I left with a complimentary kit of the new PM luxury line Awahpuhi Ginger, which I will immediately put to use at work!! You may want to stop in for a blow-out with this new product line. You can't beat the school price point, though make sure you have extra time, schools take longer to complete services. Who knew pink hair would be so much maintenance? I laugh and tell people I'm like Ivanna Trump getting her hair done every six weeks. Luckily I found the Paul Mitchell school and they do bright colors. Some salons and schools don't. The absolute best treatment which I gave them the five stars for, was they conditioned my hair twice. Before they even started, they conditioned my hair and put me under the dryer for 10 minutes. Then they bleached my hair and conditioned me again. I was very impressed, no salon has ever done that. After they finished the whole process, they put a sealant on my hair. It worked wonders on keeping my color fresh!!! My hair turned out great, the instructors are there to supervise without hovering. The only pitfalls and it's not for everyone, it is really a school, so they are loud, yelling role call, teaching, more students than visiting clients and it takes a long time. So if you want to save some dough and get your hair colored and you have the time, I'm all for Paul Mitchell, The School Charlotte. Great job! My hair color is really lasting. Make sure when you are calling, you are calling the one on Elizabeth, because there is a school in Gastonia too. read more

I live in Gastonia so I usually go to that location but when I can get a Groupon for highlights I'll drive to this location I always ask for phase two and ask for the student that has color experience I've learned not to be the Guinea pig for the newbie They always ask what you want and you sign a form. If you are looking for a inexpensive blowout, this is the place. Now be prepared for what you are walking in to. IT IS NOT A PROFESSIONAL DRY BAR. However, I feel that the students are attentive and do a good job. Be patient, they are learning. With that being said, I personally would not do cut/color here. That's just my personal feelings (and I absolutely adore my regular stylist!). The facility is large and can be a bit loud. It was clean and the stations were well organized. It can be difficult to get an appointment. I felt like I had to call quite a few times before I actually got someone on the phone. My appointment was longer than a normal blowout, but I expected that. Do not book here if you are on a time crunch. They will take card/cash/check for actual fees of service, but the students only accept cash/check/venmo for tip. My blowout was $27 ($20 for 2nd stage student and $7 for advance style). There is also a $15 blowout for a 1st stage student. Overall, I was happy with it and will definitely be going back. You can't beat that price for a blowout in Charlotte! read more

I will never go here again. I have previously been a regular customer at this school for years, I have recommended it to countless people. My experience today was beyond disappointing. I made my appointment 6 weeks ago. It was confirmed yesterday by phone. Today after checking in I am left waiting as others arrive after me and are met by their stylists. After 15 minutes of being ignored, I ask at the desk if there is a problem. I get a very vague and disinterested response from the "future professional " working there that they are "probably trying to find someone" who can do my hair. They are probably doing that? They are trying to find someone? The use of probably and trying boggle my mind. You don't know? You don't care? How long were they going to let me sit there? They claim to be training future professionals. Here's a tip, don't treat regular customers with confirmed appointments this way. Ridiculous. Take my advice, stay away from this place. read more

I love going here. I get a PERM and haircut and have always been pleased. There's one instructor in particular that I always work with since she knows what I like which is important for a perm. The only times I've been unhappy are because I didn't speak up and say I wanted it done differently which is 1000% my fault. Please remember CASH FOR TIPS since you can't tip if you use card. My friend purchased a Groupon deal for a "Cut and Color" and "Cut and Highlight". These "terms" can become confusing to the customer depending on what you're looking to get done to your hair. I wanted a colored ombre and had no idea that an "ombre" is considered a "highlight". Maybe there should be some sort of clarification on the Groupon deal so that the customer won't be "upcharged" for something they did not know. Despite being charged $50 on top of the Groupon, I had a pleasant experience. I was really worried because the reviews seemed to be a hit or miss. You have to take into consideration that the students may be in different parts of their program. The girl that worked on my hair had about a year on the floor and was very confident in her skills. The girl who had worked on my friend's hair had only been on the floor for a few months. This is a scary thought because you never can expect to get the best. You can only hope for the best. Because my hair was Black I knew that an ombre would take time. I was in the chair by 11:15 and didn't get out until 3:30. Tasia(my stylist) did an excellent job at my Balayage Ombre. She literally hand-painted each section of my hair to get the perfect gradient. The styling was perfect. My only problem was that she did not tell me until the VERY end that they did not have the "rose" color that I originally wanted. My hair was already blown out and I was running late to work. My friend had to get hers re-fixed because her hair did not lift correctly. So yes, go in if you want to gamble on the life of your hair. I was blessed with an experienced stylist who made me like I could TRUST her. Practice makes perfect and I wouldn't like to bash on students but do the right thing and ASK LOTS OF QUESTIONS. read more
