They absolutely ruined my hair. I had a Balayage done, but the student didn't have the supervisor review the test strip, she just went ahead & finished the coloring. My hair was not healthy enough to handle it & my hair was nice & long & now the bottom 8" are so damaged, I will probably have to cut it off. The student told me that going there as a student was a waste of money, but there aren't much options. Most of the training they get is from their own testing & research. read more

I like to give student clinics a try. I've always had good luck until I went to Empire on Bowles, the facility was clean and 1 of the instructors was pleasant but that's all Empire had going for it. I got a haircut and "deluxe" mani/pedi. The person who cut my hair smelled like cigarettes and whatever sandwich they had for lunch on their hands - yuck! I had pictures of how I wanted my hair cut, I came out looking like a shaved cat and not in a cute way. The deluxe mani/pedi was very subpar the nail polish to pick from is in a big tub all mixed together. Yes my total for all services was $34.00 but I had to spend another $25 get my hair recut. Save yourself 3 hours and go to a real salon and nail business. read more

Received a GREAT spa facial from Angelina at the Littleton location. Her techniques are as good, perhaps better, than any received from other places. I left with my skin rosy and soft. Will definitely contact Angelina at Empire for my next facial!! Can't wait to have a mani / ped by her, too! Note that this is a school. Treatments are performed by senior students under the direction of the instructor(s). The treatment rooms are basic, but very clean and very comfortable. Went there for the first time today....had a facial & a pedicure. The young lady who worked on me was very nice & did a good job, but seemed kind of timid & appeared to lack confidence a bit... but we have to remember that these are students, so I'm sure she will gain more confidence with more experience. A couple of suggestions: 1. When bringing a client in for a facial, briefly tell the client what to expect (only takes a minute to do so). 2. Offer a bolster under the knees to ease the pressure on the back if the client wants it.....Outside of that, she really did do a good job. The school was nice & clean & had a very friendly instructor & of course, excellent prices. Again, when you go there you need to realize that you are not in some ritzy expensive spa, but a school. I really enjoyed my experience & will definitely go back. read more

I've gotten the GREATEST stylist, Shalyn Scarlett... She's very understanding, professional, & knowledgeable of what she's doing... She welcomes you, makes you feel comfortable... She has a sense of determination, knowledge, friendliness, professionalism, & confidence in what she does, to do a great job for you... My hair has never been so damaged as it was coming here. When I first met the student doing my hair she informed she would be graduating the next week. What luck! Obviously she knows what she's doing if she's about to graduate. I could not have been more wrong. When I informed her I wanted to touch up my blonde highlights on the root she pulls out a book to match my natural hair color. she almost dyed my tips even more my natural color! After her teacher had to come over and clarify I sat there for 4 hours. Just for highlights. And even then I ran out of time and had to leave with the roots of my hair orange. She told me it would go away if I just used purple shampoo thank God her teacher came over and told her to fix it a different day. This was about 2 months ago. To this day my hair is still completely damaged. I'm scared for her future clients. read more

I had an absolutely amazing experience with Megan S. I have a long dark brown hair with a growing out balayage that I had done here about a year ago, also great. It was due for some refreshing and I decided to go with a beautiful red color that I found in a photo online. Megan made my hair look exactly like the photo which is so super rare! I had the color service, a deep conditioning, a haircut with layers, blow dry and style. Your hair is done by students who are just about to graduate which is so sad because I will not be able to go back to Megan again because she is done soon. They are all under supervision of highly knowledgeable instructors who are consulted at every step of the process. There is also a pretty fun vibe here as you can tell the students are all friends so there is friendly chatter, music playing, and plenty to keep you entertained while you sit in the chair. There was even a freak power outage in the whole complex while I was there- everybody was very professional and adjusted their services to accommodate for no electricity! Both of my teenage daughters have had color service here with equally amazing results. You will not find a more affordable hair salon (as a school they even sell product at discount prices) with these results anywhere else. read more

In realizing this is a learning institution my expectations were low for the students but high for the instructors; both failed severely. I walked away with dirty toenails, globbed polish, and lumpy jagged fingernails as did my daughter. As you will see in some of my other post, I frequent these types of schools and usually am not a harsh judge after all; they are "Schools". However; this was one of the most awful display of derelict on behalf of the management and instructors I've ever encountered. I didn't say anything at the time because the poor ignored students working in a third world setting - wasn't worthy of discussion. I just wanted out the door. If you would like to read in detail see bullet points below: * Lack of ANY instruction - the instructors simply walked by not EVER taking the time to help assess our needs and it seemed as though the students were afraid to ask them. If the instructors would have taken a closer look instead of just saying "Oh that looks beautiful", they would have seen that the students were begging them for instruction. My nails were not even buffed - I had to ask the young lady to do it. Her hands shook she was so frightened to ask for help. * The students who were working on my daughter and I were depending on one another for instruction and seemed as though we may have been their first customers. They said their graduation month was in April. They were clearly not schooled enough to have been working on humans. It was if we were having a sleepover and giving each other mani-pedi's. * Facility dirty (floors looked as though they'd not been mopped in at least over a week) * Work Stations were poorly supplied and unsanitary and unprofessionally set up * We sat in old uncomfortable office chairs and they brought hot water to soak our feet in. * The student actually did my toenails on a much stained towel with my foot perched on her knee. * Overall, if you are looking for a school that has proper instructions and comfortable accommodations - this is definitely not a good choice. I love going to the schools and have used several for which may have taken longer but at least the instructors had taught them not to glob the paint onto the nail as though it was a cool whip going on the top of a hot fudge sundae. It is beyond clear that this particular location should take a closer look at who they are hiring to teach. If I were a parent helping my son or daughter or young person looking to pursue a career in the field of cosmetology - I wouldn't take the time to even stop at this place. Keep in mind that most all of the schools are going to be in the same price range. Go with a school that isn't afraid to invest money in good equipment, nice atmosphere and most importantly exceptional instructors. You deserve the best after all; this type of career choice should be pursued in a place where you learn how to make people feel pretty and pampered while building confidence in yourself rather than leaning in a place that looks and feels like a call center. This is not the place of beauty or instruction. Sorry! read more

If I could give 0 stars based on customer service alone I would. My 12 year old daughter wrote a paper for a contest about why her mom deserves to be pampered and won me a haircut and pedi here. The gesture alone was the best gift to me. Unfortunately I work 3 jobs and by the time I was able to call for an appointment I the coupon was 10 days expired. After asking the director if they would be kind enough to still accept the voucher and if they'd exchange the haircut for a pedi for my daughter so we could go together (I also live nearly an hour away) the front desk girl said the director said no because it was expired. Now I have to tell my daughter sorry but moms so busy working I didn't get to use your gift. If this is the way Jammie Darrell runs her business I'm happy to pay top dollar at a nice spa like I usually do. I'm a bartender and this is not how I'd EVER treat any of my guests!! read more

Would NOT recommend anyone to go here for services. When scheduling an appointment the receptionist never asked how long my hair was or if I have a perms before. All she did was inform me that they could do a perm at 12:30 pm since that is there cut off time for perms being that they are students and it takes them longer. Which was fine, with me. The student was told by one of the teachers that they would need to do a curl test first which was fine. So after about 30 min or so the student had to have the teacher check it again at that point the teacher tells me that the student will not be able to provide me with the services I was scheduled for because she would not have enough time to do the perm however they will make notes if I would like to return at another time. Had I known that the services that was requesting would not have been rendered then i would not have scheduled an appointment there I would have looked elsewhere so I would not have wasted my time. Apparently at this beauty school communication is not something they practice. This school unfortunately are not providing these students with very good client ethics read more
