So make sure you check your calendar months ahead and mark the date down, since it is only a 1 day event. If you miss it, you'll have to wait till next year. A large stretch of Main street is closed and street vendors are lined up as far as the eye can see. Bring lot's of cash since most vendors will not accept credit/debit cards. A beautiful way to spend a day and enjoy the beautiful views overlooking Manhasset bay, Bonus Baby!

This is a yearly fair that I always look forward to. The rides and some food trucks are in the…read moreMerrick LIRR parking lot. Then the rest of the fair is at Merrick Ave from Sunrise to Loines in front of RS Beanery. Every year they have great bands playing on a flatbed truck. You can find everything you want from food of every ethnicity, to clothes, to services, to political signs. This year it has so many vendors. My favorite part are the animals. Everybody brings their dogs and I just stop and pet them all (after asking the owners, of course). The petting zoo is there too, this year with a large amount of animals. Living in NYC most of my life, I used to think this fair was cheesy. Now the only thing cheesy is the areas. Enjoy the beautiful weather and my community.

Round1 in Hicksville is a large arcade and entertainment complex that covers more ground than most…read morelocations in the chain, and the variety of activities available makes it a viable destination for a group with different interests rather than just a place I end up at. I walked into a building where bowling, pool tables, ping pong, karaoke rooms, rhythm games, claw machines, and pinball all occupy different sections of the floor, and the energy in the space was consistent from the moment I arrived. The arcade is the strongest part of the offering, and this location carries imported games from Japan that I do not find at most American arcades. That is a meaningful distinction for rhythm game players and anyone familiar with the Japanese arcade scene. The claw machines rotate prizes regularly, and the selection of plushies is good, though individual machine difficulty varies considerably and some are more winnable than others. Coming in on a weeknight meant lighter crowds and better access to machines, but it also meant some claw machines were not fully stocked, so flagging a staff member to set up a machine if what I wanted was unavailable is worth doing. The facility is large and reasonably clean, though it gets loud during peak hours and seating for adults who are not actively playing is limited. Weeknight visits offer a noticeably more relaxed version of the same space. For a group activity destination on Long Island, Round1 delivers on variety and energy, even if individual elements like claw machine consistency have their limitations.

I called last minute (literally yesterday evening) looking for a haunted house to celebrate my…read moreson's 10th birthday. They were pleasant on the phone, offered me a group rate, and said that they would love to host us. 24 hour notice, and it was no problem! When we got there, they accommodated us in so many ways. My son was able to celebrate with 18 friends, some who were too scared to do everything. I walked out of the first part with tears in my eyes, doubled over laughing at how scared they were. When Poocaso did that paint brush "trick," my group almost ran up out of there. Let me not spoil any of it for anyone else, but all 4 were a hit hit hit. They even allowed us a space to set up a table for cake and goodie bags, and brought a few of the characters out to take pictures with my sons. When Cuddles came out to take a picture with my son, some of his friends took off running. This was so epic, and was made even better when one of the people told us that we were helping them fundraise. God bless you all, and we thank you for making this 10th birthday celebration amazing!!!

One of my favorite foodie events of the year is the Taste of Bayside- Bell Blvd. Food Crawl. It…read moregenerally takes place the first weekend in June. I have been going to this event the past 5 years or so. The tickets cost $40 this year which was raised from $35. It is worth the cost in my opinion. When you get to the event, there are a few places you could go to pick up your tasting ticket. The ticket is good for a taste from each of the participating restaurants. There are about 35 restaurants that participate each year. After you get your ticket, you can stroll around and grab food samples from the different participating restaurants. I was able to try a majority of the restaurants that were participating in the event and most of them offered a tasty treat. I will go back to this event as long as it continues as it is always a very chill day. I always leave stuffed and happy and enjoy spending the day with my family at this family friendly event. there are also other activities and things to do while at the event.

I even invited Yifang L., a Yelper from Bayside so she can meet others in the Yelp Community but although she tried to make it, the student's Regent exams finished late. When I arrived, Jando was already busy signing up guests for the Yelp newsletter, chatting them up and listening to their experience with the Yelp phone app and just attending to others who were spinning the wheel to get one of the Yelp freebies. Mike B. and I even had a chance to talk about Yelp to those who approached the table. It's just easy to talk about something you like and are already using. At one point, a grandmother approached the table and said she wanted one of those fingerless gloves. Of course, she got 'em! It was fun to meet Bayside residents, talk about Yelp and discover that the fingerless gloves are being rocked out on the street even by grannies! The party was already in full swing by the time I got there. Most of the participating restaurants have ran out of food (and alcoholic drinks) but I was able to get a taste of food from: ~~Papazzio - Medallions of veal sauteed in mushroom and marsala - Unbelievably tasty and even if the portion was tiny it was very flavorful and satisfying. ``Tequila Sunrise - Churrasco Steak - Seasoned perfectly and tender. They were also serving margarita but they ran out of it quickly. Just as I a found the Boylan drink stand, Monique and her friend increased the visibility of the Yelp table. More people approached the Yelp table and as the event concluded, the power of connecting with the community and of Yelp swag were further reinforced. Thanks, Jando!
