After being instructed to called EDD to have them correct my appeals status (they mistakenly left the appeals status on my claim after it went through). The woman I spoke with kept telling me that I already certified for benefits. I kept telling her that my issue was logging into Benefits Over payment. She kept giving answers to questions I was not asking like: You already made a claim, everything is up to date, you already made an account on EDD. None of these things were my issue. Finally I asked to speak to her manager and she disconnected me and never called back. She clearly didn't know what she was doing so she was just saying words and phrases hoping I'd give up. Everyone that works is deducted a certain amount for disability and other taxes which funds the EDD. Everyone pays into it for life, but when you need it, it's always the worst service. One always has to expect to wait long hours, be redirected, only to be redirected to the same place and be dropped from their call and do it all over again. If everyone pays into an insurance company then why does it have this bad of a service? People, including myself have wasted so many hours just TRYING to get our cases settled. I am writing on behalf of ALL the unemployed people in CA who get wrongfully terminated by their employers, through illegal methods, then end up being caught up in the EDD system. I earned over $50,000/year with the City of Los Angeles and was wrongfully terminated a few days before my probation by Ms. Nell Dizon of the Housing Dept and I reported this to the City Attorney's Office barely 6 months within my termination. I was fortunate enough to find the way to preserve my rights by filing the claim within the 6 month period, but alas, there is a 45 day waiting period for the City to accept or reject my claim, which means if they don't settle it, this will have to go to Court, and I will definitely be requesting a jury trial because I was falsely imprisoned and forced to resign to lose not only my employment benefits and rights and losing my permanent and automatic right to reinstatement, but also, being deprived of unemployment rights to the maximum benefits. EDD made a MISTAKE by misinforming me of how "base wages are calculated" and by filing immediately after my City employment termination, I was and am being deprived of the maximum benefits to which I would have been entitled to had I waited 3 weeks instead of being now told "I must wait until 6/19 to report those earnings because I did not file July 2018". I requested a Complaint Form and EDD must mail this to me. Like other reviewers, nobody can speak to a live person calling the 800-300-8516# and it takes hours then they hang up on you. This is CRAP and BS RED TAPE. I have continuously requested to speak to a Live Supervisor to contact me. Oh, I am too broke to even afford a phone living off unemployment of less than $400 every 2 weeks because they reduce your benefits if you take an ODD JOB, by reducing your benefits. We people need to write to the Legislatures and political authorities who need to scrutinize and terminate these people from the EDD OFFICE who are NOT doing their jobs. They fail to inform people of how the claim filing works. They fail to answer my question of closing out my claim and letting me know that I can cancel this claim for lack of GOOD FAITH due to EDD's mistake in failing to inform me of my right to obtain the maximum benefits by failing to inform me of my option to wait just 3 weeks in order to be able to include the City wages, despite me informing them of my forced resignation and I PAID INTO unemployment and yet still CANNOT RECEIVE money I paid into, or the City paid into, until I am CLOSE TO DEATH. I have told EDD that I have NO money to eat. They don't care. They don't care if your health is at stake or you are close to death. SHAME ON EDD for NOT TAKING RESPONSIBILITY and closing a claim when they were AT FAULT for erroneously NOT including my City high earnings to allow me to get maximum benefits. Had a fall which led me to miss two months of work, after going to the Doctor He put me on disability. All the paperwork on my end was perfectly filled out and sent in back on 12-22-2021. I still have not received a single payment from EDD. I have a tried to call everyday in hours that have ranged from 8am to 4pm, just to have their phone service say that the lines are to busy and that they cant help me. Then they hang up on you! I went into the EDD where I waited for 3 hours just to be seen, once I was seen they told me that all the paperwork I had couldn't be the original. I asked if they could make copies for me they said they don't do that here. I said can I go make copies and then come back she said that I would need to take another ticket and wait 3 more hours to drop the copies off!!??!! Once I dropped my copies off things started to process forward or so I thought. I have been waiting by the mail damn near everyday just to be disappointed. The EDD card has never arrived? Its 4-5-2022 I have been waiting for just about 4 months for my disability payments to come through and have still heard nothing from the goons we call EDD. read more

I understand EDD is dealing with so much right now, but come on. Today my friend called EDD because she has not received anything for the past 10 weeks. She knew she would be placed on hold. So she prepared. The recorded message said she would have a 1 hour wait time. This was actually her 2nd call. The first call she actually got transfered to the wrong department. Totally her fault. The woman was nice and transfered her to the right department. She was immediately placed on hold. She was on hold for 1 hour. She was disconnected. That's when she called back at about 5:30. The recording said the wait time would be 1 hour. So again she waited. 8:00 a recording came on and said they were closed. To call back at regular hours and hung up on her. Really?!? Why would the system even take a call then place you on hold for over 1 hour knowing that they would close before someone could even take her call? Come on. We know you guys are dealing with alot, but so are these people. My friend could have spent the time job hunting instead of being left on hold for almost 4 hours. Not cool. Maybe stop taking calls at 4 if you know that they would be on hold way after closing time. EDD please give the same respect to these poor people that are just trying to get their families fed as you want. I can't believe that a government agency is run so poorly . Their offices are closed due to Covid , and nobody answers their phones . Their recording says they're too busy to answer their phones . There is no option to get a call back either . People are suffering due to job losses , and they can't answer their phones. I even called at 8:02, and that recording came on after I answered their prompts . We even tried changing my address online in my UI portal to no avail. This Agency deserves negative rating. I have made 8 different attempts to navigate through their phone system in order to talk to a representative for a very simple issue. I am President of Tax Masters of America and among other things file payroll taxes for businesses. I have a Client that is a newly formed Corporation, trying to file Payroll for the first time and I need help getting them set up to electronically file their return. In Florida, this is a very simple 5 minute process and I'm sure with a little bit of help it is probably simple for California as well but alas, 8 attempts at calling their number and I have been hung up on by their automated system 8 times with an error message stating "Please call back during regular business hours Monday through Friday from 9AM to 5PM." It's 11:45AM though, right in the middle of a Monday and I can't for the life of me speak to human being. Of course I listened to a lot of mallarky by trying different choices in their system in an effort actually speak to a human and have learned only that dealing with this agency is frustrating and a waste of your time. Whatever you do, do not trying to get any help by calling this number (888) 745-3886, the help number published on their website. It will be a waste of your life. read more

It's just a shame! We pay unemployment insurance all these years, and receive such lousy services when we really need them! I went to the Glendale office to seek information why my claim form was deemed incomplete or incorrect! The Gal quickly handed me a piece of paper with the 1-800-300-5616 number! I told her that all the lines were busy and I couldn't get any help! She told me, "Sir I know that your frustrated, but you have to call the number, sorry". Seems like they are doing the least amount of work possible! The parking lot looked empty. I thought they were closed or something.There were 3 people at the front desk, doing nothing! Towards the back by the windows, nobody around! It seems like they outsourced their work to a call center now! I used to be able to get help here,several years ago! Now they dont want to lift a finger! We pay state taxes and payroll taxes for this State Unemployment Department. And this place is basically useless to the public! On a positive note, I finally got through on the phone! I talked to a live person. I've been unemployed for a couple of months now. In that time, I have visited the Central Ave. Employment Development Department 3 times. The first was mandatory and gave an overview with Gloria and Norma sharing what the department offers and how to do what's required by the unemployment department. The second was with Gloria again to review resume writing. Today's was with David one of the counselors who took the time to listen to me about where I'm at and what I've been doing and where I'd like to go. I'll admit that - especially on the first visit - I felt like a loser and didn't want to go. But Gloria's story and Norma's advice, and David and also Fred...every single time I learn something, and they encourage and inspire and really seem genuine and giving of their time and support. I find that in this short time I am a BIG fan and look forward to working with them while on this journey. Thank you to the EDD team. You probably get more than your fair share of complaints, and I'll bet that you probably do have many more fans, but complaints are what move people to voice them.
