Excellent service, great atmosphere and professional stylists. I loved my cut and color.

Yesterday, I had bead hair extensions installed by a salon stylist who claimed to be a certified extension specialist. The salon website referred to her as specializing in extensions, as did the salon's social media pages. Throughout the process, she repeatedly injured me by yanking and pulling on my hair, as she was sewing in the wefts I would see strands of hair getting caught in the loops of the thread, which at one point she remedied by pinching said hair and ripping it out with her fingers. After finishing the sewing she then began to cut my natural long bob length hair with thinning shears. I told her I did not want my natural hair cut shorter which she replied by saying we were just removing bulk not taking length. As she began to thin out my hair I started to panic because she was ripping the shears through my hair fast which created a pulling sensation at my scalp. She assured me that was normal when thinning out bulky thick hair. After thinning out my hair the stylist repeatedly attempted to pressure me into coming back the next day to finish the service. I gave 3 different excuses of why coming back was not my preference and said I wanted to finish in an effort to get her to stop putting me in the uncomfortable situation. In addition to the extreme discomfort experienced during my service, the stylist did not finish the paid-for services. While my color was processing she informed me that I should pay prior to the end of the service while my hair processed because the salon was closing. I agreed because I was alone with her at 9 pm, past salon hours, due to the fact that she had not budgeted correctly for time. I did not want to have the cops called on me for refusing to pay or get into a confrontation alone in a locked building with someone I did not know. I tend to fawn. I'm working on it. I also still had hope my hair would turn out great. After I paid, she instructed me to come back the next day because it had gotten too late to dry my hair and style it. Again, I had no other option than to agree due to the fact that we were completely alone in a locked building at 9 pm at night and I was already so uncomfortable by the awkward situation. This morning, I woke up in a lot of pain, immediately realizing my extensions were incorrectly installed and quite tight and painful. Also too high on my head and too close to the hairline. I pulled my hair aside and noticed a red irritated scalp as well as many loose threads hanging down and loose thread loops along the track. In addition to the incorrect installation, I realized, after looking at the back of my head, that the stylist ripped out more than 50 percent of my natural hair with thinning shears during the haircut. The back of my head was now no more than 3 inches long all around my crown and so thin you could see the underlying weft. I contacted the salon owner with a request for a refund and explained everything that happened. The owner then sent me a text admitting the stylist was a novice and in training, effectively admitting in writing that she was not an extension specialist as they had advertised, but rather an extension apprentice who was in the learning phase. The entire reason for my selection of the stylist was based on a lie. Their website clearly showed that said stylist " specializes in extensions". I sent the salon pictures of my hair which pictured an extremely thin wispy bob with a short pixie length crown and underlying 18-inch long extensions which has created a very odd-looking unblended hairstyle. I have both a bob and long hair simultaneously. In addition, my color had no resemblance to my inspo photo. A greyish-ashy dull brown with a chalk-like finish rather than the soft chocolate brown with neutral highlights I requested. The salon refunded me $300 of the $2200 service and was unwilling to do anything further. They did offer to re-cut my hair as a remedy but I declined because I now have only one-quarter of the hair I had before visiting the salon. Lastly, I did not want to have them touch my hair again because they blatantly lied about the stylist's experience and were not empathetic whatsoever on the phone. Rather, they mentioned how important their time and their bottom line are in comparison to my $2000 investment. read more

This was my fourth visit to Empower and I will absolutely come back! Diana "Dee" and Kerri worked on my hair and did a great job. I wanted to soften my natural root to old highlight line. They incorporated my natural dark/ dirty blonde in lowlights and added some more highlights for dimension. A nice, soft, fall blonde. The salon itself is a pleasant place to spend time. Had the best salon experience last week. Laura was my stylist and she is amazing! She listened to what I wanted and then delivered. She was also a very good conversationalist and I enjoyed her stories! The salon is open, bright and welcoming. I also love their community involvement and message (portion of their sales goes back into the community and they partner with local organizations) Annnnnd that was probably the best shampoo and condition of my life, I was not expecting a scalp massage and to feel so RELAXED from it. Kerri at Empower is amazing! I came in with a very specific thing in mind and she went beyond my expectations! I had an old ombre (about 16 months since my last dye job) and wanted something drastic and new. I sent her the reference photo and told her I wanted reds that matched my skin tone while also adding in dimension without flat color. I was a little afraid about damaging my hair, but Kerri took care to ensure that my hair stayed intact. It's been about 5 weeks and I've had no more fallout with each wash than I had before my appointment, and my hair still looks amazing. The color retention is so good, and she trimmed all my dead ends as well. The cost was great value, at least for what I'm used to paying in LA salons, and the quality of product is impeccable. She is great in the consultation, and was quick to reply to my instagram DM and get me in to the next available appt. She wants to make sure her clients are comfortable with their color, especially those who aren't used to drastic changes. I can't wait to see Kerri again to refresh my red color and go in with an even icier white in the front!
