The teachers are highly qualified, hard working, and most do a great job communicating with parents --classroom newsletters, emails when needed, a schoolwide weekly newsletter. The curriculum seems good; my son has learned a lot. There's opportunity to go ahead if a challenge is needed (like taking a higher math level). My son has had small class sizes every year except one. Students have many arts options. In addition to regular art and music, the older grades can participate in choir, orchestra, band, or school play and these teachers do an excellent job. Sometimes there are after-school clubs offered, like Pokemon club or learning another language. The PTA (it's called Parent Faculty Council here) does a fantastic job and puts on fun events for the kids, pays for classroom field trips and school wide activities during the school day as well as hosting optional evening events (arts showcase, movie night, roller skating, trunk or treat, etc.) The PFC has a main fundraiser in the fall and your child (meaning you) will be asked to participate. It's for a good cause but if you hate fundraising, maybe just donate to it yourself. I feel that this school, like most schools in this country, could use more funding and the staff higher salaries -- but that's not specific to Orchard Lane. Our family hasn't needed to use more formalized plans or additional services for academic or behavior issues but I know they are available. The teachers have worked with us informally on getting behavior where it needs to be (trouble sitting still, overly talkative, blurting out answers and so on). I think there are plans in the future to add an outdoor/nature classroom and to update the playground. These may be expensive projects so I have no idea of a timeline -- but something to look forward to.

Going to Sylvan helped him get with his reading skills immensely, my son went from below average to above average in a matter of months! By the end of the school year they asked about placing him in a "gifted program". After that we took a break for a couple years but when my son got into middle school he was struggling again specifically in math... Sylvan was awesome, they were very flexible with our schedule and super accommodating. My son feels more confident at school and we could not be happier with the teachers/staff at Sylvan.

District is slightly deaf to the HS and students although their offices are IN the HS... but they lock the doors to keep students out, nice job guys... They spend a lot of tax payer money to keep this thing squeaky clean with the renovation and the athletic facilities are on par and above what most schools budget. With two gyms, massive field property owned by the school, indoor pool, track, stands, stadium seating, full track field event structure, its a good school. The school has a strong academic staff with well trained personnel and devoted teachers that will be there long term, they are paid extremely well as far as the public school sector pricing goes compared to city of Milwaukee (MPS) masses that employ most of the teaching staff in the area. Your child will be challenged both academically and socially. Almost ever single teacher will interact with parents if they take the first step. There are issues brewing as Greenfield transitions the population and they see a more diverse student body. The place is layered with security and police, like most modern schools now require, and there is a fair handle on student related crime. They have also addressed the staff and have adequately fired several individuals for misconduct involving students, I would like to dock the school a star for this, but they have zero tolerance and I guarantee you every HS has an issue, but gag orders usually keep these things tied up in litigation. Ask around... I would like to note one major flaw that almost took this down to 3 stars, career and counseling program at Whitnall is weak, extremely weak. They do not interact and prepare students for college like I have seen at other schools. The recruitment numbers are based on entrance to college, not preparation. I have witnessed a fair share of failure of the lives of whitnall's graduating classes due to their ill prepared college life transition. Many of the students drop out and work in the area, it is sad. I went for advice pre-college and really got no substantial information. They need a pre-college system for acclimation and take the job more seriously. Love hate relationship with the alma mater. There is a hard headed management aspect to the school but overall you have way more pluses than minuses here, I'm just dishing on the bad because the good is obvious if you walk through the halls.

She is excited to go to school and each day that she comes home she explains all the interesting things they are doing, plus I feel like her vocabulary and insight about the world around her grows and grows. I can not say enough great things about MMS, its staff and all the experiences so far. Looking forward to seeing what she learns next !

This is Walker Elementary School for those who do not know. They offer kindergarten to sixth grade…read more I went here in the 80's and at the time Mr. Cumber was the principle at that time. Both of my sisters who are older than I am went here as well. This is a older school, but a good one. Hopefully, times have changed, as back then they did not have special programs for kids with ADD/ADHD and put everyone into the same category. The playground here is extremely old, that should be remodeled. They had really good teachers back in the days, ones that worked here for 20-30 years. My kindergarten teacher was Mrs Carrnot, or something like that. She was probably almost 60. My 1st grade teacher was Mrs Rice and my 5th was Mary Elm. She pasted away last year and worked at the school for probably 35 years. She was amazing. The lunch program here was really good. After I left and went to middle school, school lunch was a joke. Wow, I recall the blue milk tickets sold her at the book store for 5 cents. During the summer they have the walker school rummage sale, which is a cool event where locals sell goods on the school playground lot.
