This review has three sections, to summarize the program, the introduction, Pros, and Cons. So lets get started with the Introduction. Introduction: I first found this program online, and read the bad reviews for the EMT program and just thought that these people were being too demanding and being "those" customers. I figured I would experience this myself and i'm sure i'll be fine, I mean 3.5 stars isn't so bad right?...I never write reviews, but this needs to be said to anyone looking at taking an EMT class here. The program is roughly $1500 for the course, and then an additional $600 for supplies. With all of that money, and your serious time investment, the administration who runs this program do not care about you at all. People in my class, and myself included never received our textbooks, and other supplies until towards the end of the program. Secondly, none of the instructors knew what was going on at ANY level of the program, and just winged it as they went. luckily the instructors are amazing, hard working people who are over qualified and over worked for this company which I cannot see lasting any much longer with how poorly it is run. For Gods sake, entire EMT courses such as the boot camps were left instructor less for the most part, and they either taught themselves, or our instructor would leave our class periodically to teach the boot camp people, and the instructor would have to bounce back and forth teaching different courses. The company is awful, even workers and fellow ex-workers say the company isn't that good, and not worth what it from a student perspective. LASTLY AND MOST IMPORTANTLY! Not only was everything previously said bad, and dreadfully put up with, but even after a MONTH of passing the course, my classmates and I STILL DO NOT HAVE OUR CERTIFICATIONS!!!! The administration who is supposed to grade your work and SUBMIT it to the state government so that you can be cleared to take the NREMT and receive your EMT cert, HAVE NOT DONE SO AFTER A MONTH FOR AN ENTIRE CLASS! If my class is stuck in this situation, I am sure the other courses who were instructor less are also in this predicament. We are talking about 50+ people potentially who have over paid for this program, and have went through it, passed, and still have no certification and have been waiting in limbo. Shortly after ending the program I was recommending my cousin a a friend to go here to become EMTs, but after a month of not getting my certification because they will not simply send my information over, I sent them else where, and decided to write this review so others who are genuinely in need of career change, work, etc, do not waste their time and money here. Pros: Great instructors. Easy to sign up and give them your money. Complimentary coffee pot to make coffee. Cons: Horribly designed, and hard to use Student portal/website. Disastrous administration. Unreliable. Program directors seem to quit as soon as they join leaving your entire course directionless, and your information not submitted to get your cert. No/low supplies. read more

I cannot recommend EMS University based on my experience. The program was advertised in a way that led many students, including my son, to believe it would be a traditional EMT course, yet much of the instruction was conducted online with very little clear disclosure upfront. Communication and customer service were extremely frustrating. It was nearly impossible to reach a live representative, and when the offshore rep was finally reached, responses often consisted of reading catalog language rather than addressing specific concerns. Several students in the class reported similar experiences. There were also issues with instruction and account management. During one online class, the instructor left early, leaving students without instruction for nearly two hours. In addition, billing and account errors prevented access to exams despite payments being made, creating unnecessary obstacles to completing coursework. For a program costing over $1,500, I expected transparency, reliable support, and quality instruction. Unfortunately, that was not my experience. We would strongly encourage prospective students and their families to carefully research any other options BUT EMS! EMS University's San Diego program is perfect for providers looking to keep their NREMT or simply receritify their county. Personally I take their NREMT 24hr refresher every recertification cycle and I love it. It's geared towards providers who are active so there isn't a lot of emphasis on relearning material you should already know. It is more geared towards reminding you of the little intricacies of the NREMT exam and having fun going over different techniques and knowedge of the experienced providers you are sharing the room with. It is very laid back and they serve lunch everyday which is awesome. On the final day you just show up, take your test, run through the good old skills tests, and you're out of there. Like I said, personally I love it, and I will keep going back. I recommend EMS University's San Diego Miramar program to everyone who asks. read more

I had a positive experience with the instructors, who were knowledgeable and supportive, but the administrative side of things was very disappointing. The school doesn't seem to be adequately staffed in the admin department, which has led to delays and communication gaps. I paid extra for the fast-track option, expecting it would expedite the process, but it turned out to be a waste of money. I've been waiting for months for my grades to be processed and to receive the necessary course number so I can register for the NREMT exam. Communication has been inconsistent, leaving me with little clarity on timelines. It's frustrating, especially after putting in all the work to complete the class. An excellent and convenient way to get your recertification in. VLT courses are always, by their nature, going to be reliant on self-study and individual effort for a maximized result. The instructor in our class tended to expand on things that had changed in the last 5-8 years while basically expecting us to go through the powerpoints ourselves for the basics. This is probably the best approach when you have a large and diverse class, covering multiple jurisdictions and with widely varying skill levels and experience. (Some retired, some not. Some working as EMTs, some not.) I would still recommend an in-person class over an online one, but if you need to get your credit hours in you could do much worse than a VLT course here. read more

I have used EMS University to renew my EMT cert twice. I love this place because the curriculum really centers around the core of the knowledge and is straight to the point. Also this place offers flexible schedules and the location is perfect. Right off the highway and plenty of parking available. The best part is the instructors. They all have professional experience in the field and really know their stuff. They are all super helpful and make you feel comfortable asking questions. The student portal is available to you (forever) which contain the lessons and video material. This was so helpful for review before I had to retake my NREMT. Oh, and they have a great lunch everyday. I love this place!!! read more

I am a working professional in a non medical career. I volunteer as an EMT and I can't take a lot of time out of my work schedule to get all the hours together for my re-cert every two years. It's a pain to track that stuff on your own. A friend who I volunteer with told me about EMS University. They handle everything and anything I had questions on Victoria at their office handled. The lectures are long but it covers all the required hours and the instructor does well to keep it as interesting as possible. Ultimately for me it's about re-certification and EMS University has been the best option for a working professional like me. read more

Course materials were on point. Instructor Mike was knowledgeable, entertaining, and an overall cool guy... could have been a very boring presentation, and he made it enjoyable. The customer support rep, Samantha, was very helpful and caring as well. The class is straight-forward and has all the materials you will need to pass. Testing was nice with the answered being reviewed after the test with explanations to learn, and do better on a re-take. We even got a certificate after completion! We had a good experience with EMS University with our intent to become CPR certified. The course information was easy to digest and they did a good job of staying on track with pertinent information. The instructor was experienced in what he was teaching and used a lot of real life stories to keep us engaged. Two areas of improvement would be to upgrade their technology (in class presentation and website) and space as it all felt a little dated. I also would've appreciated an opportunity for more hands-on training to help the information stick once you leave. read more

EMS University provided an excellent online and live instructor EMT refresher that left me feeling very confident in my skills and knowledge. I would highly recommend Eric Helton as the instructor if at all possible. He set the standard for how instructors should teach a course. He was knowledgeable and succinct with his comments and he was excellent in allowing questions throughout his course. This course was efficient, thorough and professional. It refreshed my memory on the ALS skills I had previously used including endotracheal intubation, 12 lead EKG placement and IV preparation. I had performed those procedures when working with RNs on a CCT missions and with a Paramedic partner on a Bridge unit. I signed up for the EMT refresher course expecting it to be just another one of those boring refresher courses where we hear the same thing over and over again. To my pleasant surprise it was just the opposite. The class was enjoyable taught in real life scenarios. (as far as a conference call refresher course can offer) Overall I really enjoyed the course and highly recommend this to anyone with a busy schedule or to anyone who likes stuff over the computer. read more

They were very willing to come in on off-days to help us work through any skills we felt rusty on or unsure of. Really great customer service and instructors throughout the class. they were all willing to help and went above and beyond what was expected for 200+ students in one VILT session took the time to read the comments to check for questions about slides and took the time to go back. stayed long after the class was scheduled to be over to ask/answer questions from the students. read more

I got my EMT certification at EMS university and it was the best educational experience I've ever had. My instructor, Tony, was just the best and I felt that he really cared about each of us and wanted us to succeed. Assuming the Registry accepts everything, this will make it much easier to renew than having to hunt CEUs for two years. The process is boring and tedious, but I bought the course to get all my CEUs at once without hassle, not for entertainment.
