I needed to change my rear break light. I already had the bulb since I had purchased a two-pack previously. The last time I needed it replaced, the auto parts shop did it for me, so I figured it'd be something easy. Firestone wanted to charge me $60 and refused to use my bulb (apparently it's against their policy). I went to Encinas and they were able to tell me when they could work on my car. Since it was the same day, I asked them to rotate my tires as well. I sat in their waiting area working on my laptop and they were done in under 30 minutes. I realized I hadn't asked how much they'd charge me and at the end, they refused to charge me anything! This kind of customer service is so unheard of nowadays. They've definitely gained a customer. The bright spot in our day was Eddy Encinas the owner/mechanic. Traveleing with a trailer we discovered an oil leak from the auxillary transmission cooler line on our 2021 Nissan Armada. Lucky for us when we pulled of Hiway 260 in Cottonwood there was Encinas Automotive and Transmission. Eddy looked at the problem and immediately brought the car into the shop. The leak was expertly repaired and the transmisison filled with Nissan transmission fluid. Eddy also caringly cleaned up the 5 qts of leaked oil that covered the underside of the Armada from the front to the back as well as cleaning the drip pan. The bill was very reasonable, reminded me of how repair shops used to be. Thank you very much Eddy, you saved our day !! read more

They saved our trip! My wife and I took a road trip from Indiana to Ca, our goal was to make it to Amarillo on day 1, but when we got to Tulsa the AC was blowing hot. After a stop at Autozone for a can of Freon, I quickly learned that the ac compressor was the issue and got a recommendation from Autozone for a local mechanic, they said Encinas. Drove straight there. I explained my woes and Jeramy assured us they could get to it the next morning. Ugh. We had to spend a night and lost a day, but, they were able to get us in as promised and found the part. Called them and they said they had trouble getting a part off and they had to send it way out on Sheridan somewhere without asking me! Picked my car up and drove it the same day I picked it up and it died .My boyfriend checked it out and said it looks like they stole my motor. OK, so I've got a 27 year old Jeep. Bought it new and still love it. It's my daily driver. Died the other night. Had it towed to Encinas. I've been looking for a mechanic for awhile and had been considering Encinas. They're near me, and they have really good reviews. First good sign was on the way over, the tow truck driver said he's towed cars there before and the people'd had good outcomes. They fixed it the next day. The 27 year-old crankshaft position sensor had given up the ghost. Runs great, but did they screw me on the cost? They charge 135.00 an hour, which is on the high side, but it's the quality of the work and how many hours they hit you for that really matter. The last place that worked on my Jeep only charged me 75.00 an hour, but I dropped my Jeep off at 7:30am and he called and told me it was ready at 4pm, but he charged me for 13 hours labor. Seemed mathematically improbable. Encinas charged me for an hour's labor to diagnose and fix my problem. That's about right. Tells me they're honest, and also tells me the mechanic they put on it is experienced. It's really easy for even an honest mechanic to burn up a bunch of time diagnosing a problem. Another place shops make money is on parts. That last shop that worked on my Jeep? Charged me 300 bucks for a new alternator he'd paid 95 bucks for. Dumbass left the box and receipt in my Jeep, along with a really nice Phillips-head screwdriver (which I kept!) Shops get a discount from parts stores. They generally pay 10-20% less than what you or I would. The industry standard is for a shop to then mark the part up 10-20% over what that list price is. Encinas put the part number of the crankshaft sensor they put on my Jeep on the receipt. It's a good practice dishonest shops never do. I looked it up, and they'd marked it up about 20% over retail. On the high end, but on the high end of honest and fair. Look, I am cheap. I only shop at Dollar Tree when there's a Groupon. My BVDs have more holes in 'em than a collander. I'm cheap. The thing I've seen over and over in my life, though, is that being cheap often costs me. Like with the 75.00 an hour mechanic I last took my Jeep to. Man, it is so hard to find a shop to take care of your vehicle that is both honest and good. The older your car is, the more important that becomes. These guys are honest and good. I will definitely be back. Also, I was jokin' around and asked about my AARP discount, and he knocked 10% off! Thing is, I don't actually have an AARP card. Too cheap to spend the 14.99 a year for it. Now I feel so bad I just ordered one. read more

The only reason I'm not giving it 5 stars is because I just had a minor repair, so I can't say for sure... Having said that, Mike (the owner) is honest and forward. Here is my story. You decide if you want to try them out. I've had some sort of problem with my wife's car. Tire kept on going flat. So, during the winter storm this past week, I just gave the wife the keys to the 4x4. Told her I would take care of her's. Whoops! The reality was that it was just a leaky value stem. Not something you can fix with a can of Fix A Flat. So I take it to Encinas, just because it was near. They fixed me up ASAP. Did you read that? They fixed me us ASAP. The owner came out and talked with me. There was no high pressure sales tactics. Just an honest man who told me about my car. Now here's the kicker. Please don't get me wrong, your milage may vary. Total charge.... FIVE DOLLARS. As I said, don't go in there thinking you are going to save major money if something is seriously wrong with your car. Maybe you will... However, these guys were HONEST CLEAN FRIENDLY What more could you ask for. The next time I have car problems, I'm going to them. I didn't realize I hadn't reviewed Encinas! Well let's rectify that sitchu, stat! I can't remember who recommended them to me years ago, or I would thank them here. I have a 2001 Suburban (aka the Green Beast) that serves as my gameday to Stillwater and Labrador hauling vehicle. When you own an older vehicle, there is nothing that is more of a blessing than having a trusted repair shop you can depend on. I was referred to Encincas around 2007, when the Beast needed a new antenna, a window wasn't rolling down, and a few other minor issues. The antenna had been knocked off in the infamous ice storm, but according to the dealership, it was not a simple matter of replacing it. They needed to take apart the door panel and get into the inner workings of the car (I'm paraphrasing) to remove a piece of the old antenna that was still stuck in there at a cost of several hundred dollars. Due to the age of the vehicle, they also recommended about $700 worth of "carbon flushing" whatever that is. I came away stunned, thinking about just selling the vehicle. Along came Encinas. I took the car in and explained all the issues, and asked about the carbon flushing. The guy at the counter burst out laughing. "Those dealerships!" he chuckled. "Always wanting to flush something!" Encinas proceeded to stick on a new antenna for $60 (including the price of the antenna and without dismantling the car) and fix the other minor issues all for hundreds and hundreds less than what I had been quoted. Regarding the carbon flushing...maybe that's a thing, but 8 years after it was recommended the Beast seems no worse for wear having skipped it. I have had nothing but good experiences at this shop. Especially if you have an older vehicle, I can't recommend them more highly. They get things done quickly, and they are straight shooters. If it's not necessary, they won't recommend it. They will got the extra mile to get your repair done for the most reasonable cost possible. The last real major repair on the Beast involved something called a clock spring and Chevy does not make it anymore and they were unable to find the part very cheaply. The mechanic on the phone sounded more upset about the cost than I was. If you have vehicular woes, I recommend Encinas as your cure! read more

Sigh. I hate writing this because I know that MIke is a good guy, and it's an honest shop. Those things are important. But I just can't justify my experience there this week. I called Monday to find out if they could do work on a car like mine, and briefly explained some of my concerns. They said they could. They said if used the night drop, they would call me the next day if I left my number. So I dropped my car off Monday night with a typed note of the things I would like to have them check, and my phone number. Tuesday at 5 PM, I still hadn't heard from them. So I called. I was informed that someone should have called me. They had to order the part, and someone would call me in the morning. No one called me in the morning. Wednesday at 5 PM, I called again. They explained that the part wouldn't be in until Thursday because it was a dealership specific part.I also had them double check my phone number, since no one had called me. Thursday I called at 5 PM. The guy said he thought the work was done on my car, but the person who was working on it was out at the moment. They'd call me as soon as they got back. Of course, they didn't call me. NO ONE called me until Friday morning. And that was to tell me that they didn't have the equipment to finish what they had started. I had to make recommendations where they could find out how to finish the work. They called the place I suggested and found out how to complete that part of the work. They called me a few hours later to tell me that they had finished the first part only to discover that I needed an additional part that they could NOT install. I went to pick up my car. He asked me how much he had quoted me. I explained that he hadn't given me a quote ever. In fact, it was the first day they had called me. Then I asked if they had fixed the other item that was on the typed note. The note was still laying there on the desk in front of him. He had no idea what I was talking about. I just pointed to it on the note. I paid and left. It was really, really disappointing. 1. I had specifically asked if they could work on it before I brought it in. 2. No one called me until Friday. 3. No one ever gave me a quote. 4. The didn't check everything I asked them to, even though I LITERALLY WROTE IT DOWN! I really don't know what to even do with that. How much clearer could I have been? Of course, getting it back at 3:30 PM on Friday before Labor Day weekend doesn't do me any good. Now I can't take it to anyone who REALLY CAN work on it until Tuesday. Encinas wasted more than a week of my time and really let me down. They know better. read more

Most repair shops, I'm asking questions, Googling prices, trying to haggle, etc etc. Not here, after a few trips here and reading the online reviews, I know that Mike is going to give me a rock-bottom price and only do what NEEDS to be done. I can actually trust what he says. The one criticism I have is that they will not alert you to preventative maintenance problems you may have. This is good b/c you won't get tricked into spending extra on unneeded stuff, but they also won't go do an in-depth inspection of the car to find potential future issues unless you ask for it. read more

I had to have my car towed to Encinas while I was at work to have the radiator replaced. While fixing the radiator, the alternator light came on and it was found to be bad as well. Knowing I had barely come up with cash for the radiator, Mike offered to go ahead and replace the alternator and let me pay that out later. He said he hated letting me drive off knowing my car could be unsafe. He'd never met me face to face and offered this. I'm extremely happy with them as a mechanic and humanitarian. Different occasions where my mom had to be towed in and someone there would pick her up so she didn't have to try and walk back to get her car. (We live only about a mile away). Great place. Mike and the crew at Encinas have been my go-to auto repair shop for at least 5 years now. I think I found them by accident, when one of my tires went flat thanks to a nail I picked up in my construction-heavy neighborhood. They repaired the puncture with some fix-a-flat type product, checked my air pressures all around, and then sent me on my way in no time. And I remember being shocked at how little it cost me. I seem to recall there being close to no charge at all, so definitely in the 5 dollar range, if not free. At any rate, Mike's generosity sold me on the place, and I've been coming back ever since. And whenever I've gotten second opinions from other mechanics, I've always found that Encinas reports the fewest number of repairs needed.
