Project that would have likely cost me several thousand dollars. I've never dealt with a shop who's ever done something like that. Highly recommend

OVERCHARGING - I brought my 2005 Jeep Wrangler here as a new customer to replace the driver-side…read moreseatbelt buckle. I supplied the part myself because Jeep no longer makes it, and I asked for an estimate for labor only. I was quoted $480 and was explicitly told this was a high estimate and that the final cost would likely be lower unless the job turned out to be unusually difficult. This repair is very straightforward and, based on standard repair information and widely available tutorials, should take about one hour. This is not a complex or labor-intensive process. There are four bolts to remove the seat and one other bolt to remove the receptacle for the seatbelt. When I picked up my car, I was charged the full $480 with no explanation. The invoice did not include an itemized breakdown of labor hours, labor rate, or how the charge was calculated. After I questioned the charge and pointed out that this is typically a one-hour job, they reduced the price by $50, bringing it to $430, which is still extremely high for this type of work. They later offered $100 off as store credit if I brought my car back, but I'm not comfortable returning, since my concern is being overcharged in the first place. This shop had an opportunity to fix the issue by issuing a fair refund, and they chose not to. I was hoping this would be an honest, reliable shop for all of my future repairs, but they have lost my business. If you're a woman, I'd recommend coming here with a man so you're not overcharged based on assumptions. After reading other reviews, I noticed that another woman described a very similar experience of being overcharged, which makes this feel like a pattern rather than a one-off mistake. I left feeling like I was taken advantage of. Once I pushed back, the cost suddenly dropped, though still not to a reasonable amount. Based on my experience, I would not recommend this shop. Transparency and fair labor practices matter.

I used Moonlight Motors a couple times, but ran into a problem a couple days ago that I needed help. A headlight bulb ring had fallen down to a pan below the engine and I could not get to it. Moonlight Motors was able to do it quickly and spent a few minutes explaining why I was having problems with the new LED low beam bulbs a local auto parts store had sold and installed for me a few months ago. What the auto parts store did not tell me was that the replacement bulbs would not secure into the headlight assembly due to its design. As a result, the bulbs were loose and essentially pointing down to the ground. The staff at Moonlight Motors were very kind and discussed my options. They recommended DDM Tuning in San Marcos, who were able to solve the problem. THANKS MOONLIGHT MOTORS staff for your assistance and referral. It's the little things that make a difference and taking the time to explain what the problem was (not the reason I was there, but related) and identifying another business that could solve the problem shows they will take the extra step to take care of their customers - even a relatively new one. Added bonus? They didn't charge me to recover the ring. Will continue to bring my vehicle to them!

Had a transmission rebuilt here about 3 years ago, i owned the van for 8 years at this point, and…read moretrans lasted 160k after the rebuild it never seemed to shift right into second gear, if throttling at a normal speed going up a hill it would shift into second at about 10 mph and the rpms would rise and fall with throttle position, and wouldnt really gain speed, would always have to manually shift it back to first until a higher speed, 20-30. Took videos of rpms and speeds sent to them. They scanned it and no codes. Test drove and they said it was fine. Well. It lasted about 50k And second gear started to shudder pretty bad. It also would shudder in reverse on steep inclines. Not sure if related. I get it. No codes = nothing wrong but then again when it went out last time there was no codes either, and it was barely drivable. I have owned this since new and am pretty aware of how my vehicles operate. Do majority of my own vehicle repairs since dealers and other mechanice seem to use parts cannons and not truly diagnosing. Got a new factory trans installed and now it feels like it used to, same hill starts easy throttle holds first until about 25-30, second is solid. Little to no rpm swings with throttle position except it goes better up hills now. 3 stars only because the trans lasted only 50k, under heavy use, original 160k. But this time i made sure they knew i wanted it to last another 150k and opted for new factory not rebuild. Cost way more this time but i feel it is right now. I do highly recommend them but i am upset it didnt last longer, either due to them or the rebuild shop.

I wanted to replace my transmission then they called me few days charged me a couple hundred dollar diagnostic fee to tell me I needed a new transmission cool let's replace the transmission it was close to $8000. I get my truck back the drive home. It breaks down I tow it back. They say it's the alternator they didn't touch anything electrical I replaced the alternator then it breaks down again. They said it's because I didn't get an OEM alternator I am now on my second OEM one a brand new yellow top battery and starter and my truck still will not run properly and they say it's an electrical issue. , my truck was is perfect running condition for the last three years of me building this truck with no issues. I take it to them because it had no reverse To get a new transmission and now I'm having all these issues and they say it's not their problem. They didn't touch anything electrical.but it has not ran since I've picked up at their shop. Also they did not put the cover plate on the new and there was a big exposed hole on the bottom of my transmission. I've called to talk to Dalton and Josh several times this last time I talked to Dalton he put me on hold and he comes back and you can hear he was laughing. This shop does not care about their customers. They will take your money and send you on your way and say not their problem. I usually do not write reviews and honestly don't care to write them but I've spent so much money that I had to come up with, and I hope that this review will help stop anybody else from using this shop I read the Google reviews and there was a lot of reviews that I should've paid attention to and to now I checked these yelp reviews and I definitely would not have used if I checked out the yelp reviews because I'm in the same boat as everybody else avoid this shop at all cost if you don't want to be robbed for your money and sent on your way with a vehicle working worse than it did before you took it to them now I may have to trade in my vehicle that I've spent so much time and money on building because I let their techs touch my truck now if I get it running somehow who knows if they'll even honor the warranty of the transmission read all the reviews. I came to the shop because it was a local Oceanside business and I used to deliver parts to them When I was a kid I did not know that it was bought by somebody else avoid if you do not want to be out of a lot of money they will not care once they get paid. I've asked to talk to a gm or an owner several times and they keep just sending me on my way now that they got paided they don't care. It's not their problem. Now hes reply saying they didn't damage anything without acknowledging that they could've damaged the power supply taking in and out the transmission that BCM could've got damaged while transmission was being replaced The ground cable could have been crimped would they check and look no they will charge more random diagnostic fees so now I have to tow to another shop for them to tell me what's wrong after having these con artist hustle me for 80000 and now look at all his replies to bad reviews look how they treat you after taking your money Just oh best wishes to you although I took a truck that was running with no reverse into them and had to tow it out this shop is a huge scam maybe Oceanside needs to stand up against crooked shops like this that robs our community and sends people on their way . O top of all that my output shaft seal on the transmission is leaking and they say it's due to other leaks But it's clearly the seal leaking how does a person take a running truck with no reverse into a shop for a transmission replacement and it comes out of the shop and does not even wanna stay on but that's not their fault make it make sense

Working with the people at DRIVE Autocare was a great experience from start to finish. I spoke to and worked with 3 different people in the N. Cedros office and all were very friendly, kind, professional and honest. I felt like they actually wanted my business. I dropped the car off, (they drove the car to their Hwy 101 garage), they shuttled me home, Paul called to let me know what needed to be repaired and told me the car would be ready the next day. The next day Paul called, sent a car to pick me up and let me know there is a 2-year warranty on the repairs/work that was done. The pricing is not cheap and it is not expensive; it is reasonable and fair for both parts and labor. In fact, Paul even suggested that I try to ask if the previous place would replace the oil pan gasket under warranty to cut the cost by 50% even though it would mean less money for DRIVE Autocare.
