Encinitas Foreign & Domestic Auto Repair was a complete disaster. This place bought a cheap aftermarket suspension pump for my Mercedes Benz SL 500 without telling me, which blew out in less than 6 months after charging me more than $5,000 to install it. As the professional mechanics they should have known the cheap aftermarket suspension pump would not be compatible with my Mercedes. Then when I brought my car back to have them fix my car based on their "RunCarRun" policy, they charged me another $1,200+ dollars even though the mechanics couldn't fix my car at all. They actually called me to tell me that they had to give up on trying to fix my car because they did not know how to fix my Mercedes suspension pump. This place is a complete ripoff and is not a professional repair shop. I went to Charlie's Foreign and Domestic Auto Repair about 2 blocks away in Encinitas and they actually fixed my car with a Mercedes suspension pump for less money and my car is still running more than 24 months later. What a Shit Show and a rip off! Replaced Water Pump that did not work, took me 3 times to return for a fix of a repair they did. I ended up taking my car to another mechanic to diagnose it for them, costing me $200! Then Encinitas Foreign & Domestic charged me for items that I should not have been charged for and should have been covered under warranty. More expensive than dealership prices and a waste of time. This is a long missive but wait for the good ending. For years I have been taking my 2013 Subaru 3.6 Limited Outback to the Bob Baker Carlsbad Dealership for service. Bob Baker was a fine institution but was bought out by Auto Nation. Each time I have brought my Subaru into Auto Nation it's an upsell of services, even for a simple oil change. Too many coincidences have occurred in the last year. Last August 2024, the day after a routine oil change/tire rotation, fluid check, I nearly overheated on a trek up to No CA. I got lucky, pulled off the Freeway in Pasadena into a still open privately owned auto repair shop mechanic's bay 5 min before closing. This honest mechanic discovered I had a broken radiator cap. He added a couple jugs of coolant and found a used radiator cap in his shop that fit my model. He told me no decent mechanic should ever miss something this simple as a broken radiator cap especially based on the fact Subaru Auto Nation did a check list of all fluids inspected topped off. This knight in shining armor told me no charge, I gave him a $50 for his trouble and for rescuing me. I get back to SD take my Outback back in for follow up re: the overheating. Auto Nation charged me $1700 for all new radiator hoses, a new thermostat, radiator flush and a power steering pump, they had the audacity to charge me $125 for a new radiator cap, but when I threw a fit, they took that charge off. A few weeks back in July 2025, I make an appointment @ Subaru Auto Nation for an oil change, a few days later the fan belt breaks. I have the Buu towed in back into Subaru Auto Nation. They kept the car a week as they ordered the wrong parts, then wrong screws. I also told Auto Nation my windshield wiper warning light kept coming on. I was once again told all fluids were checked including the windshield wiper fluid topped off. That fanbelt repair was a $1000. A few days after picking my car up, I noticed my temp gauge was going up and the engine fan would come on when I was stopped at a traffic light. I asked my two brothers what could be wrong? They popped the hood and looked, I had no coolant in my overflow reservoir and the radiator was almost empty. They filled the radiator but noted a slow leak. I decided three strikes and you are out Subaru Auto Nation. I made an appointment with Encinitas Foreign and Domestic. I brought my car in and was told I needed a new radiator. Encinitas Foreign & Domestic also discovered the windshield wiper reservoir was bone dry empty and broken off from its anchor. I approved the radiator repair. I was concerned, as was the Encinitas Foreign and Domestic mechanics, that I had a blown head gasket. The new radiator was installed the pressure test was performed and I cleared the test with flying colors. Further, the new radiator repair price came in lower than the estimate. Encinitas Foreign and Domestic has earned my loyalty, I will be a faithful return customer. My Subaru Outback 3.6 is about to turn 100k miles. With her service being taken over by Encinitas Foreign and Domestic, I feel every confidence I can turn another 100k miles in my Buu. I am beyond impressed with their professionalism and honesty. Dori is a gem of an employee. She kept me posted the entire time and even went the extra mile to call my brother and run the diagnostics by him as well. read more

I left a google review but Yelp seems to have a bigger Audience and I can't let this go. Years ago I took my van in for a brake and lamp inspection. Needed this inspection to register the van. They told me my rear drum brakes were oily and missing hardware. Gave me an estimate to fix it. I told them no I will do it myself. They even told me to sign that I was declining the work. Took the van home took off the brake drums and lo and behold no oil no missing parts just dusty. Called them the next day and they said the inspector must have replaced the missing parts and clean up the oil. BS. So while I had the brake drum off I put new shoes on and made another appointment. This time I watched as the inspector inspected from the alley and what do you know I passed. This is my experience here. I would be very cautious with any repairs, and any upselling. I'm lucky that I do most of my car repairs. Most people can't and have to believe what the repair people tell them. Be careful and get second opinions. read more

I had a previous rat infestation which caused damage (that they repaired beautifully). At that time, I had to postpone replacement of the fluid damaged shield under the vehicle. They nicely reminded me (when my budget could manage the repair), and took care of it promptly. I just have to comment on a few bad reviews. Everyone is entitled to their opinion and I'm sorry they had unmet expectations. But I don't think Costco would recommend this company and provide discounts, recommending them if they were not legit. I have a Lexus and Costco does this 15% discount program ONLY with Lexus and Encinitas Foreign and Domestic. And AAA recommends tthem too. My personal experience is that they are friendly and do the best they can in these difficult times, to get parts in quickly to get you in and out. I think the most important thing for me to share is: I trust them. In talking to my son in law, who recommended them to me, he has been using them for decades, and he trusts them. I know it's hard to know who to trust. But just look at the people who work there, and THEIR level of integrity. No one is looking to rip you off. One more example: I had a light come on my dashboard. Said my tires were low, even when they had been looked at and filled properly by a local tire company. My trunk was packed with items. Jonathan said: Clean the trunk out and bring it back. It's probably that your spare is flat and the sensor is triggering that light. He knew. And they were right. In all the places I went to, everyone said it was the sensor that probably needed replacing. Untrue. This auto repair place fixed the problem and it didn't cost me a dime. So you decide....
