I got recommend cal west automotive from my boss and I was a little skeptical but to be fair I'm always skeptical when going to see a mechanic. I'm happy to say all my fears and worries disappeared when I walked in and was greeted in the front. I spoke to the workers in the front and I told them what was going on with my car and they told me they would double check everything I also told them I needed a new band and they said well double check to see if you really need a new band or if another shop tried to coax me into spending 100s in repairs. Turns out I did need one but honestly the price was fair. They went above and beyond even secured a hose for me that I've been having trouble with for years! I do recommend you try to book an appt since they do get busy. But they definitely make you feel welcomed! They also have a small area for games and books for kids if you happen to be waiting with your kids (like myself) I will definitely be coming back for all my future repairs. The Best Oil Change I ever had. When I called in the am about getting a lube a few hours later, they recognized my # from the caller ID and had my info from a previous appt. So when I arrived, they had the paperwork already. I asked about getting a few other things done, like radiator flush, timing chain, etc. They looked up factory recommendations to let me know I didn't need the flush. I've gotten attitude before from other oil change places that rhyme with "iffy tube". And I hope to never go back there again. Oftentimes those guys will sell you things you don't need, just to make a commission. Fortunately, the boys at Cal West are pros! They treat your car like you want it to be treated. They don't try to hard sell you on extras. I've changed my oil and had it changed and I know a lot about cars. So I know what to look for, what questions to ask, etc. They're honest, affordable and good at what they do. read more

I honestly can't say enough good things about cal west auto center. From the moment I walked in, the entire team went above and beyond in every possible way. They were welcoming and really took the time to explain what was going on with my car instead of rushing me through the process. I was in the test drive phase of buying a new truck. I started with Toyota and continued with Dodge, Nissan, Chevy and then Ford. I went back to Dodge in Poway because I really liked the salesman, Breen. I felt like he was being honest and not trying to over sell me. I was never pressured into anything. I actually went twice for a test drive at Dodge and ended up buying my new 2014 Dodge 1500 Ram Big Horn from Breen. Even after the sale was done, Breen was awesome in how he explained everything and made sure I had the knowledge to operate all the functions of my new truck before I drove off the lot. I can't say enough good things about this shop. They were honest, trustworthy and incredibly friendly from the moment I walked in. I brought my car in for a diagnostic and they discovered that one of the axles needed repair. I called to get a quote on my car, I got different pricing from other repair shops, Cal West gave me a quote that sounds reasonable and it was well-explained to me. Discovered Ray Safie and Tom two years ago and have taken both cars to them ever since. The 2003 Saab is tricky but they are very knowledgeable, prices fair, and always prompt and courteous. Even though a fuel pump Ray replaced a year ago went bad in another state Ray tried to get NAPA to honor their guarantee but the stalled and Ray gave me a $400 credit in good faith. I was told I needed full break pad and rotor replacement on all 4 brakes at different "highly rated" Poway shop; I was quoted $1100 for this. I got a second phone quote from B&C for the same service at half the cost. When I took my car in, they were honest, told me I still had 50% of my front brake pads left and only need to replace my back ones for a literal fraction of the cost. miracle workers, take it in for misfire on 2 cylinders, water in cylinders, exhaust gasses in the…read moreradiator coolant and over heating, confirmed by another mechanic that refused to work through the extended warranty company, the extended warranty covers power train only and i confirmed they will pay to do the gasket if needed, counter guy kept giving me a price to replace the had gasket at like $3k and the radiator has a small leak and that would need replaced as well, he said they have pictures but i never got them either by their web login thing or email, never saw it, radiator not covered under service warranty. the counter guy mentioned blue devil a couple times that it worked on his car, I just wanted the gasket done under the contract and i will pay for that radiator, $1900, they did the radiator and wow, the misfires are gone and the head gasket miraculously fixed itself, I just dont get how this could happen??? on 2 other notes from previous service work done here, Before Ralph sold the place I never had an issue, but since then my son took his 98 ranger in to find a vacuum leak, they said it was done, paid the bill, when he picked it up the ac vents didnt work, took it back and there was an entire foot of hose that was corroded and fell off, guess they didnt take a test spin. 2013 expedition transmission service, probably not a big deal but worth mentioning, they did a filter and fluid swap, it calls for Mercon lLV, they used type F fluid. Just lost all confidence in this place now. As of today misfires came back cylinder 2 and 3. Same 2 cylinders in question iriginally, Overheating badly. Water in oil. Guess the problem was not address/fixed properly by a radiator replacement, Less than 1000 miles after so-called repairs.

As usual Jeff and his team took care of everything in a timely manner. The Service Pros location is not terribly convenient for us, but we make the trip anyway. It's worth the extra effort to us because of Jeff's knowledge, skills, and the warranty on his work. He'll probably keep my "classic" on the road for another 20 years!
