Dr Coffey was wonderful and we were loyal to him for over 20 years. He retired and we gave the new practice few chances. There was Dr Thompson who seemed nice and knowledgeable, but she left the new practice when we called to make another appointment, was not there long. They quote one $$ price and charge another. They up sell as soon as you walk in from X-rays to procedures. After several months we found a dentist in Carlsbad. We were hoping to stay but it is not a good fit. read more

Usually I have a lot of anxiety about going to the dentist because I don't understand what I need to get done from their recommendations and I end up paying a lot out of pocket. They took the time to really help me understand my dental health and answered my questions. Their office clearly uses best practices and up to date technology. Dr. Ismail is our favorite dentist of all time!!! She is so caring and kind. She explains the steps of the treatment process with care and detail. I take my legally blind mother there for her cleanings and dental work .. and Dr. Ismail not only provides excellent care but she has wonderful bedside manner and held my mothers hand while she spoke to her. I don't think I have met any dentist that cares as much about her patients as she does. She is truly a blessing! The office staff are also super friendly and always meet you with a smile. I'd also like to mention the dental hygienists there are some of the friendliest people you can meet and also so knowledgeable. They have been sending me bills and I've been laying the last one over 300 dollars. Tired to get an explanation detail but they would not send me one. I went in and paid it. They said that's was all I owed. All paid in full. Now I'm getting texted saying I owe the 31 dollars. For What? I'm paid in full. They don't respond just keep demanding more money. I give Dr Coffey office a zero rating, I had to chose one star in order to be posted. I had my X-rays sent to a different dentist after a really bad experience with Dr. Coffey staff over another issue. Now The X-rays were marked wrong. Tooth number 19 is always on the left. It's human error to make mistakes at times as long as there are corrected. No one checked and the X-rays were sent out with an error on the films. This is a tooth that needs a root canal. It's like operating on the wrong leg. Very disappointed in Dr. Coffeys and his staff. Dr. Coffey didn't notice as well. Sloppy and careless. read more

I have been going here for two years and have had a wonderful experience to date. Just had my last appointment two weeks ago. The office is located on Encinitas Blvd and El Camino Real by the Jack in the Box. The staff is friendly and the office looks clean and organized. The plus - Dr. Coffey does not recommend unnecessary treatments. This and proper billing without surprises are the most important attributes of a good dentist. Most, unfortunately, will provide a 'treatment plan' of a litany of unnecessary dental treatments. I have been hoodwinked by this practice before and will never again. Look at other dental reviews and you will see it is common. Always have a second opinion. In fact that was the reason I started going here and the reason I stayed. Our insurance had changed and we had to find a new dentist. This was a process I hate because a good dentist is so hard to find. The first told me I had two 'small cavities' that he could take care of quickly. I said not now and decided to get that second opinion. The second dentist saw no cavities but said my teeth were awful and I needed 2000 of periodontal work instead. I passed. They were completely different opinions. I then tried Dr. Coffee. They took x-rays and cleaned my teeth. No cavities (nor have they found one in the two years since). And I did not need all this periodontal work either. Guess those others were just trying to pay off their new Mercedes ;-) I am so glad I did not waste money or worse, having my teeth drilled into unnecessarily. I know that has happened in the past. It is how most dentists operate. It just took me about 50 years to figure that out. I hope that others will always get that second opinion because of my review. My only concern is that Dr. Coffey is nearing retirement age and when he does, I will have to find another one who has Dr. Coffey's ethical attributes. read more

I found Dr. Coffey several years ago when my previous dentist messed up a crown application. Dr. Coffey set things right quickly and painlessly. He has a fun personality (if you have an appointment on Halloween you may find a vampire checking your bicuspids) and an office full of friendly staff. He makes eye contact and really talks to you, not at you. He also practices common sense dentistry. He'll tell you all the advantages and disadvantages of each avenue of treatment and let you decide, unlike my previous dentist, who insisted I needed to replace all of my childhood fillings (I had lots of cavities as a kid) because "they're about to fall out". Dr. Coffey recommended we wait and see how my old fillings lasted, rather than replace them all as a preventative measure. It's been over 10 years since then, and most of those old fillings are still hanging in there. Now my whole family goes to Dr. Coffey -- even my husband, whose childhood dentistry experiences were even worse than mine. For a guy who used to hate going to the dentist, he is now one of Dr. Coffey's most loyal patients. read more

I went to Dr. Coffey today for an emergency root canal. The receptionist was so polite and kind to me when I called for an appointment, and squeezed me in even though they were booked since I was in pain. Everyone I met there, from the receptionists to the dental hygienist to Dr. Coffey were extremely friendly and accommodating, and had great bedside manner. I was very anxious about getting a root canal, but they answered every question, were respectful, and the hygienist assured me that it would be painless because he's such a good doctor and very conscientious. And it was! I don't know what he did, but the novacaine was "ouchless", and I didn't really feel much at all throughout the whole procedure! The office was comfortable, and they did so much to make me feel relaxed. I loved their TV on the ceiling, so I was able to watch Project Runway while they were doing the work- I even had a blanket and a pillow to hold on to! I'm very happy to give this dentist five stars- the best dentist I've been to in over twenty years. read more

All I had done was have an old crown removed which had popped off twice before while flosing. I was in so much pain when I got home and the anasthetic wore off that advil couldn't help. I ended up taking an old hydrocone pill from 2 years ago just to sleep.The base of my tongue hurts as done the inside of my lip which is torn up; I can barely eat and my throat, near the base of my tongue hurts like crazy. If I had known there was going to be this much pain and it was going to take what sounded like a roto-hammer to get it off I just would have left it alone! read more
