    Long reign Endymion!
    Cesar R.

One of the best experiences I've ever had in New Orleans especially during carnival season. Now these guys are not throwing the word Extravaganza around lightly! First it takes place in the Superdome which is mandatory criteria to use the word. Second you get to bring your own food and booze but if you're VIP and sitting in front of the stage they have you cover on that at no cost. Third you get to see the floats and some of the countries best marching bands while wearing a tux or gala dress and getting wasted with your friends! The entertainment is live and usually a well known artist in 2018 it was Rob Stewart and Jason Derulo. The experience of seen the vibrant and majestic floats as they parade through the Superdome is a really unique experience so is getting hit in the face with an unexpected throw so keep a watchful eye as you scream "throw me something mister" because they will from all directions at once LOL. All and all a great experience that highlights the best of carnival season and the uniqueness of living in New Orleans!

The Endymion Extravaganza is, by far, the best place to catch the parade if you are lucky enough to have a front row seat. If not, your experience will vary. Tickets Tickets for the Extravaganza are very expensive and can only be purchased through a krewe member. You would think this would add a level of exclusivity and class to the event, but you would be wrong. My guess is many people are guests of others and don't pay a dime so they behave accordingly. Layout There was a VIP area, VIP bunkers and regular tables for this event. On the floor the main area with tables was in the center of the dome barricaded off from the parade route. The tables closest to the barricades were the best, but all of these tables had one major issue. The only bathrooms for the event were on the outside of this area meaning a long trek across the parade route to pee. When the parade was going on you could only cross during a gap in the floats and that didn't happen frequently enough. If you can afford it, the bunker areas are the way to go. They have free food, bathrooms and are a little more exclusive than the main table area. The bathroom alone is worth the extra $80 or so a ticket cost. Parade This is the best reason to come to the ball. Sure they have "world class" music acts, but the parade is hard to beat. The parade began with a steady stream of police and Shriner motorcycles which was cool, but deafening. Next up was the marching bands which each paused near the VIP tables to perform. It amazed me how much energy these groups had after having already marched several miles. After those two groups came the parade. If you were able to get close to the front, you could catch more beads, trinkets and other throws than you ever imagined. The riders truly save all of their good stuff for the Extravaganza and it showed. As each float pulled into the dome, all you could see was a constant stream of stuff being thrown from the sides. It was unlike anything I had ever experienced. The night went downhill from there. Music The opening bands weren't bad, but they played a lot of the same songs. Most of their set was top 40 which they did a great job of, but most people wanted to see the main act. This year's big star was Carrie Underwood. I had no idea how popular she was until she started playing and the crowds surged towards the stage. I saw grown people crying over some of the songs, but she didn't do anything for me. I guess she is supposed to be a country star, but I would have taken George Strait over her any day. People The crowd an the gamut from local celebrities, the ultra wealthy all the way to the lowest common denominator. I saw people fighting over beads, drunks vomiting all over the floor and run of the mill bad behavior. At some point the event turned from a fun parade/concert atmosphere into a scene from the walking dead. By the end of the concerts the floor in the dome looked like Bourbon Street at 3 a.m. It was so disgusting that when I left I had to pull up my pant legs to avoid any getting on my clothes. As of this writing, I will most likely not be back next year, but time has a way of making you forget the bad. This event really has potential so if you can get in a bunker, or at least get a table by the barricades, it may be worth the price.

Just do it! There's nothing like watching a parade and catching throws in your formal gear while listening to live music. If you are afforded the opportunity, go. This is a unique experience and one you will never forget. As a kid, I remember marching through the Superdome at the end of Endymion parade. We were cheered on and watched in grand form. Back then, I took mental note and said one day I would experience it from the other lens. This year's featured entertainment was Pitbull and Steven Tyler (featuring Aerosmith). And while both were great, I love the band from Atlanta who also play a few sets. Bring your dancing shoes and energy because the party does not stop until 4am.

Went again this year. I had a great time but I will say that they should really up their entertainers. They seem to choose quantity over quality! If only they got one really awesome performer, then get a good DJ to play the rest of the night, would be better than 3 subpar performers!! Plus most people leave around 2 am anyways! No need to keep it going until 4am in the morning!

Front seats are WORTH the money!! Each artist got to highlight a song of their choosing and each one ATE! They left no crumbs. I must have been a smiling fool in the 2nd row seats, but music, personally, is the best way to get through me. Years in music myself, I understand the dedication and commitment it takes. You FEEL that here when they are on stage performing. Jazz and its spontaneity and history is the cornerstone to Preservation Hall. I LOVE that there is no recording/picture taking allowed (unless the artists strictly tell you otherwise). It helps keep their art intact but helps immerse yourselves with them into their craft. Living in the moment. The last song they kindly let us record/take pictures and I will treasure them until I can come back. Side note: that trumpeter (I believe his name was Will?) has a VOICE as smooth as velvet and I was mesmerized. Video shows a brief moment of the night.

I came for my birthday with a group that is, frankly, not easy to impress. And somehow, this show became everyone's favorite night of the entire trip. From the moment it started, it was pure magic--and not the watered-down, Instagram version. The real thing. The kind you feel in your chest. The storytelling is powerful, joyful, a little feral (in the best way), and exactly what you didn't know you needed. And the cast? Unreal. The level of talent alone would be enough, but what really sets it apart is the chemistry. You can tell they genuinely love performing together, and that energy radiates out into the audience in a way that's rare. This isn't just a burlesque show--it's an experience. One that actually lives up to the hype (which almost never happens). They also took incredible care of us, which made the whole night feel even more special. Madame Kennedy was the perfect emcee (and also put on a wicked black light bubble show). Some acts were sexy and seductive. Some acts were acrobatic and martial arts based, as Madame Kennedy said, "I'm sure someone is missing their anime character somewhere." There were hula hoops, feathers, and grinders! One act was a woman who put a grinder against a metal plate on her belt and sparks flew everywhere! I also saw my first (as far as I can remember) burlesque by a transgender man. It was so much fun! We did the reserved tickets, so we got a table right up front. There isn't a bad seat in the house, but I really prefer being in the center of the action.
