my mother had them out to look at her furnace that got too hot on ONE single night ... she has an electric furnace that only has a blower motor and 4 heater coils, all easily replaceable. And what did they say? you need replace the entire furnace for $5500..... "we dont know whats wrong.... could be anything..... might cost close to $1000 for parts or MORE!!!! you are are better off with a 30 year lease for a new one......" Honestly one of the most frustrating service experiences I've ever had. The tech from Winnipeg Supply Heating said I'd get a call the next day -- nothing for days. Each time I called, a new story: "waiting on supplier," "we'll check," then suddenly they claimed someone named Nora had already called with a quote. That never happened. DO NOT HIRE THIS COMPANY. THEY APPEAR FRIENDLY BUT WILL ONLY TRY TO UP SELL YOU ON PRODUCTS YOU MOST LIKELY DO NOT NEED. THEIR TECHNICIANS ARE CORRUPT AND OFFER LITTLE TO NO EXPERIENCE. The short version: The technician misdiagnosed my trouble with my air conditioner likely trying to get me to replace my unit, the service manager refused to return my many calls or emails for months, and I did not receive a refund of my money for over 6 months. It was not until I contacted the head office that the service manager, Gord finally returned my email. Did not even have the courtesy to call. When I asked what the repercussions would be for the technician he assured me that there would be some. I find this hard to believe from a man that did not even attempt to help me in the first place. The full story: My air conditioner stopped working in the summer and I requested Winnipeg Supply send someone to inspect the unit. They sent a technician named Trevor. Trevor's notes stated that my air conditioning unit control board was shorted, compressor was locked up and would not run and due to the age of the unit parts would not be available. He recommended that my unit be replaced. I was charged $111.87 for this job. I wanted a second opinion so I hired another man named Gerardo who works for a company called Comfort Heating. Gerardo came recommended by a friend and has over thirty years experience in the business. Gerardo came to my home approximately fifteen minutes, was able to determine that the machine was in perfect working order and that my thermostat was incorrectly wired. He rewired it and we had it cooling my home within a few minutes. I subsequently called the Winnipeg Supply office at 1555 Dublin ave. I asked to speak with the service manager, Gord and was transferred to his voice mail. I did this a dozen times, also speaking directly with the receptionist, Nora, asking her to try to find him. Every time she returned to the phone Gord was out of the building or was not able to answer. One day I called and spoke with someone covering for Nora who told me that Winnipeg Supply is actually a chain of HVAC companies, and that if I wanted results I should contact the head office directly. They are a part of the Service Experts Company out of the USA. After emailing the company (I never heard back from them), I finally got an email from Gord asking more questions about my experience and my air conditioning unit. Gord made excuses about the age of the machine and that his technician did not have experience diagnosing a machine this old. I emailed back basically saying that Trevor should not have lied if that was the case, stating that my air conditioner was broken and in need of replacement. Gord agreed, and offered a refund on the condition that the head office would be sending a cheque in the mail. The cheque did not arrive for over three months. I called and emailed many times during those three months. I never heard back from Gord and the receptionist kept telling me that they were waiting on the head office to send the cheque to their office so they could forward it to me. I essentially had to threaten to not hang up until I got my refund. The head of finance finally placed the refund on my credit card after providing the information over the phone. Why was this not offered in the first place, I have no idea. Bottom line: Stay away from Winnipeg Supply! They are bad news. read more

My father-in-law, who is in his 80's purchased a new furnace and AC unit 4 years ago, and was sold it as a rental agreement based on free serving and lifetime warranty. They've been paying about 150 per month for 4 years. He recently sold his house, and found out the hard way Service Experts-Winnipeg supply had put a lien on the home. To sell his house, he was forced to pay 96% of the original quoted price to get the lien removed. Highway robbery and the sales person and company should be embarrassed selling a unit this way. Total monthly outlay over 4 years was $8965 on a quoted total price of $9600. They now have to pay out over $10,000 to get out from under the lien. Ended up paying close to $20,000 for a $10,000 unit. Should be embarrassed taking advantage of seniors this way. read more

As the boyfriend (electrician) of the home owner I was in control of this issue. Originally required technician to confirm and replace defective pressure switch. Within 10 minutes of arrival he didn't want to hear my explanation and proceeded to find numerous problems which I agree 1 or 2 were justified. He refused to replace the defective pressure switch and from then on was only interested in replacing or totally rebuilding the whole furnace. Home owner questioned him but he was like a car salesman only interested in replacing or rebuilding the furnace. He left the house "without heat" leaving an extensive repair or replacement invoice. I had them install an air conditioner about 7 or 8 years ago. I signed up for their twice a year service for my AC and Furnace (which they didn't install). I also purchased some extended coverage for the AC. The extended coverage was well worth it. After 4 years there was a problem with a leak in the coolant line and it would have cost me a fortune. A technician spent a couple days tracking the leak and fixing the problem (no cost to me). All in all I've been happy with the service over the years. One thing to note. My furnace takes a unique sized filter. It's much cheaper to purchase them online and have them ready if they need replacing rather than purchasing them through WS. read more

Hot water tank needed to be replaced , in a panic I called Winnipeg Supply. They were great back in the day. Now , not so much. The service man did not seen to know what he was doing. He did not drain the old tank very well, lots of water all over the carpet. Then he proceeds to put a new tank over the water .We had fans going trying to dry his mess for 2 days . He also put the safety drain on backwards facing the wall. Had to come back to fix it. He also scrapped the paint off the stairs sliding the new tank down stairs WHAT A NIGHTMARE . I had been using Winnipeg Supply for my heating and cooling needs for 14 years. Yes I knew that they were expensive, but I thought that I was generally getting good value for the money. The techs for the most part were courteous and the office staff (which used to be based out of the US) were very efficient and always called me to remind me about my upcoming service, and to tell me if the techs were going to be on time etc. I noticed that things started to slowly change over the years. When I was sold my high efficiency Lennox I was told that the filters only needed to be changed yearly. They are the very large 16 X 25 X 5 type which are also quite expensive. Over the years they changed their tune telling me that they needed to be changed every 6 months. I do not believe this to be true. On March 30th 2014 tech # 1146 visited my home to do my annual AC tune up. He went on to tell me how the refrigerant in my AC is illegal and that I should change out my 11 year old unit ASAP. He kept insisting that the unit was old and I would be lucky if it made it another month. I bit my tongue and thought well it is just my AC if it goes out, it goes out I will deal with it when it conks out. My unit ran flawlessly that Summer, and the next spring when I had my usual tech out #2020, he did not say a thing regarding my AC and it's condition after servicing it. Strange because last Spring it was about to die according to the other tech. The spring after that my usual tech 2020 advised that fan motor was going and that I should replace the unit immediately. He said a fan replacement would be over $1,500.00 and that it would not be money well spent. I looked on line and the price of a fan for my particular unit is about $350.00. Installation is about 30 min or less (I watched a youtube video on how to do it) so I have no idea how this could come to $1,500.00. Again I did not listen to him or the sales person that he arranged to immediately come out. Stephen came out that spring and gave me pricing for a new AC. $4,500, $5,000, or top of the line for $5,900 all prices plus tax. These prices were quite high with other smaller companies charging around $3,000.00. I also wonder why anyone would want to purchase a top of the line unit (high efficiency) as according to MB Hydro the difference in your electricity bill would only be about $20.00 year. You would never see a pay off on that investment. Stephen failed to mention that to me. Well now it is fall November 2017, 4 entire hot sticky Winnipeg Summers have passed, and guess what. My AC is still working. I have decided to move on from Winnipeg Supply "The service experts". When my AC needs to be replaced I will have someone else do it. read more

No such thing as standing behind a product. We purchased an a/c unit and furnace from Winnipeg Supply for the tune of $12K. Both units are Lennox. We have had the annual service done each year as recommended by Winnipeg Supply. The furnace has been very good. The A/C unit not at all. In the 6 years we have had it, we have had it serviced 5 times. Every year we have had to add freon and tech cannot find a leak. So the tech on the last visit decided we should add a coolant leak fluid that will find the small leak and plug it. Ok, as he is the expert. We have spent over $500 to fix our A/C This year once again the unit did not work. So another $150 service call. Yes it does have freon, but the TXC valve is sticking and needs to be replaced. Maybe the coolant leak fluid has made this sticky? Assured that would not affect the valve. Upon the advice of Winnipeg Supply we reluctantly replaced the valve for over $1,000 and had a working unit for 3 days. When tech came out this time, we now have a compressor that is shot and the unit itself is plugged and not worth fixing. Any chance that coolant leak did this? No chance I am told. So only solution from Winnipeg Supply was to buy a new unit from them at $5,000. What about the $1000 I just spent. No worries, they will take $500 of the new unit. That's it that's all. The mark up on the unit is more than that. Oh by the way, Jeremy had told me the issues I have are because it is a Lennox. Winnipeg Supply no longer supports Lennox because of the poor quality, and my issues should be with Lennox and not Winnipeg Supply. Pretty sure I gave my money to Winnipeg Supply when I bought the unit, and was assured at time of purchase I was buying a quality unit from a highly regarded manufacturer. So if you are looking for a company that will stand behind the products they sell, I would look elsewhere. read more

Trevor came out to to check my furnace as it went dead. He found that the light switch to apply power to the furnace was accidentally turned off (yes, I am an idiot). He also replaced part of clear plastic tube that at some point leaked in the past. Charged us $100 extra for flipping the switch and $1 of tubing a "minor adjustment." I called Gord, the manager at Winnipeg Supply and asked him "what's up." Gord said he sticks by his pricing plan. Bill was $224 for 10 minutes of work. That's over $1200 an hour. I don't get paid to drive to my work and I sure don't get paid $1200 an hour. It is too bad as I have read other reviewers got 2 hours of service included in their $100 fee. Guess I'm not that lucky, or those reviewers work for Winnipeg Supply. Watch out for these guys. read more

Furnace died overnight. Called around 10am March 4th. Communicated what happened, and said I would be home between 2 and 4, but I was busy from noon until 2. Received two calls around 1:15 saying that the techs were ready to come over and inspect our furnace. Stated both times that I was available after 2, not before, as communicated during the initial phone call. Technicians arrived, and performed the inspection. Both the induction motor and a pan were needed a replacement. Was quoted $1300 to repair. I proceeded to ask about replacement options, and was quoted $5500 for a basic furnace and installation, up to $8000 for a higher end model. The techs were both pushing for a 'rental' option, where I pay a fixed amount every month, and keep the furnace for as long as I would like. I wasn't interested, and asked about financing options, both through the company and Manitoba hydro. The tech didn't know the actual financing rate for hydro, and then proceeded to tell me that 'no one buys furnaces anymore anyways, they just rent them'. Not really professional to push for an option that I wasn't interested in and whatever the interest rate was on it. After the inspection, I called a few other competitors. The company I chose quoted me $3300-$4100 for a brand new furnace and installation. I was blown away at the immense difference in prices, and I was pleasantly surprised that all my questions were answered, without making me feel like I was a fool. Not impressed with Winnipeg Supply, and would suggest to try and get second opinions before going with them. read more

We can't even put a star due to how disappointed on the current service we received from Winnipeg Supply, however to post this review at least one star needs to be selected. On 2018-02-22 the blower motor on our furnace was squealing. It was in the -30s, scrambling to find a company to come out, we read reviews and decided to call Winnipeg Supply. They told us it was $99 for a service person to come to our home. The technician Jeremy arrived within 3 hours and he told us we needed a new furnace. We refused and asked for the blower motor to be replaced. He reluctantly replaced the motor. The total bill was over $900. The furnace worked perfectly. On May 23, we went to operate the air conditioning unit and nothing happened. We had a Furnace/AC Company to the house and they told us they would not touch it because the wires were taken apart and not put back together. They asked us if any work was done to the furnace and we told them Winnipeg Supply replaced the blower motor. They told us to contact Winnipeg Supply as the technician did not complete his work. When we told them how much we paid to have Winnipeg Supply out in February, they recommended to go back to them letting them know they need to come back due to the work was not completed. On May 25 we called Winnipeg Supply and told them the situation regarding our air conditioner not working and the work Jeremy did on February 22 needs to be looked at. Winnipeg Supply said they could send someone out and they would charge us for a service call. We felt we should not be charged, they said then they would have to have Jeremy call us and he was on a service call at the moment. That was early afternoon and at 9 p.m. we had not received any contact. We called Winnipeg Supply back at 9 p.m. and explained no one had contacted us back, she said the best she could do was send someone out and there is a charge of $139. We hung up. We will pursue by going to the Better Business Bureau and definitely spread the word on how disappointed we are with Winnipeg Supply and recommend never to use them. We were also told we were overcharged by 300% on the work done of replacing a blower motor. read more

Contacted them with a blocked toilet. Explained the situation and that it seemed like the sewer line was blocked. Made appointment and when the technician arrived they explained that Winnipeg Supply hadn't dealt with blocked sewer lines for years. Gotta love paying $100 for that sort of insight. read more

My furnace died on a cold winter's night in Winnipeg. I called a few HVAC companies but no one was able to come out that night except Winnipeg Supply. They charged an extra $40 for an after hours visit, which I agreed to (the other companies I called did not charge extra). When the tech called, I explained the issue and the age of my furnace (over 40 years old), he immediately said the issue was the blower motor and it wasn't replaceable due to its' age. I still wanted him to come and look at it to see if there was anything that could be done to get the heat back on for the night. I was already planning on replacing the furnace in the spring so I just needed it working a few more weeks. When he came and I showed him the furnace location (in a crawlspace), he became annoyed and said I should have told him that on the phone. He started going down the stairs as the furnace fan was starting up and said yup, it's the blower, I can't help you and came back up to write me the invoice. He didn't even look at the furnace. He made that diagnosis based on the noise. When I asked if Winnipeg Supply would be able to replace the furnace the next day, he said no company would be able to do a next day replacement. I noticed he wrote this comment on the invoice "offered to have rsc out but cust declined". Not sure exactly what that means but he offered me nothing. After he left, I did an online search and found Furnasman. They sent someone over later that night and I had a new furnace the next morning. I should have called them first.
