I remained a customer after initial contact expired but did not renew. The energy rate while out of contract remained 16.5 cents per kw until last month. The rate changed to 25.9 cents per kw shortly after the billing cycle began, without notice. I changed providers yesterday and received my final bill for the higher rate. When I called to ask about this, the representative acted like he had gotten away with something because I wasn't under contact. AE Texas got away with helping me find another provider and without my business. This is a matter of fact account of my experience with AE Texas. Poor Business Practices All my bills are on Autopay and they come out every month on the due date. Energy Texas just takes it out when ever they feel like it. Sometime the 1st the next month the 3rd or the 5th the bill is Due on the 7th so I expect it to come out on the 7th. Called customer service they were no help and then left me on hold for a very long time and comes back to tell me that there is not a Supervisor/Manager available for me to speak to but maybe some one might call me back tomorrow and if I don't get a call I should waste more of my time and call them back. read more

Do not put your trust in this HORRIBLE company. They do not care about customer well being nor satisfaction. Midway through my contract, they hit me, and apparently many, with a spontaneous whole company switch. Who would expect that in the middle of a signed contract? Now having to go through the stress of registering with new company, setting up new payments, getting familiar with new company and terms, figuring out how/if things transfer over. The reason we sign up for contracts is to avoid these exact excess stressors and tasks. The worst part is I had accumulated a large amount of stars/bonus points by always paying my bills on time, etc., was saving up to redeem for larger prize redemption, and was never able to do so before this spontaneous switch. Despite not being given fair warning about this and pleading with customer service for any kind of solution, they immediately said points were lost and nothing at all could be done. Short, no effort, apology, any way to escalate issue, or any sort of understanding shown. I literally see my points sitting in my account. There has to be something that could be offered or extended. I am left feeling very upset and cheated and having to now deal with new company that I did not sign up with. Updated post 5 Feb 24 Energytexas.com is not your best choice for energy!   I reccomend choosing another company as they are deceitful and feel that saying sorry will fix everything without them actually doing anything. I subscribed to their power service in January 2023 with the solar add on.  I asked if the solar plan changed could I get out of the contract without penalty and was told yes.   Skeptical I took one year instead if three.  Then in March the solar plan went from a one to one credits to Real time metering. Also they stated high pay back during surge and the capped it low enough to be almost worthless. These changes caused my bill to go fom $20 a month to $100-$150 a month.  I called immediately in March when i received the bill to cancel and was told I would need to pay the 250 cancelation penalty.  WHAT? A few months later when it came time to renew I was told I could have canceled without penalty until May 1 due the major change and was directed to a new statement online.  Wait, What that's a contradiction to what i was told? Now when making my final payment I had saved up my rewards that they call stars and 150 stars allows you to recieve $50 off your bill. Well, I was told in the terms and agreement it states I am not allowed to use my rewards on my final bill, so the $50 credit will not apply and be lost. I asked to talk to a manager and was told it's policy and you can't apply rewards on final bill.   Really? Ok the rewards use might be in the terms, but for the hundreds of extra dollars they made off of me by changing the plan mid contract they could have honored the rewards. Beware of the terms and know this company isn't here for their customers, but only out to make as much money they possibly can. I reccomend selecting a different company. I am lucky i only took one year, as the solar plan changed. The solar plan was one to one for extra and use, but then changed after a couple of months. The change increased my monthly payment an additional $100 or more monthly. The solar plan now basically charges me $.07 to $.10 per KWH I produce and use. They pay me less than $.02 for my excess and charge me the plan rate. When the change took place I asked about a plan change and was told the penalty would be charged. I learned my lesson. I reccomend researching and NOT using a company for solar that states the plan can be changed at anytime. read more

I got a 3 year plan from them and they changed their "add-on" San-Jacinto Solar-buy back plan to math ERCOT's wholesale real-time rates... while still charging an ERCOT rate that is 172% of what they are paying us back. I get around $0.025 for solar buy back right now with their rates, while the rate they charge (only ERCOT's part) $0.043. At the very least they should give us their rate and not the ERCOT rate since that is what they are charging us - $0.0785. But alas, they are not, and they will now hold to what we all singed as a contract. I know they will say it is an add-on and we could have canceled at the May 1 date. I started a 3 year contract with Energy Texas in February largely because they had a "solar buy back" program that credited me the same rate for exporting to the grid as I was being charged for importing from the grid, (@7.85 cents per kWh). After 2 months they have changed that rate to the "average wholesale cost" rate, (@2.3 cents). They have also told me that although they have changed the terms of the contract, if I change providers I will still be charged the $500.00 early termination fee. Solar Buy Back Program-DO NOT trust. I was on Come & Take it 12 @ 7.2947cents/kwh. They won't do what it is on the contract, export: 7 cents (round up), import: 10.5 cent (round up) The customer service did not have enough knowledge about solar buy back program, they could not explain what was going on, did not have a clear information on this program, everything was vague. My solar system produce 10 times more than what I need. Still I have to pay for electricity that I imported from the Grid at nights. All the export to the grid during the day was gone, I received NO Credit for the energy exported, what so ever. Base on Enphase Monthly Report, I produced 1.4 MWh and consumed 99.9 kWh for the month of April 2023. I paid $ 49.92 to Engery Texas. This is a BIG QUESTION MARK, how is this happen? Don't look. Just run. Fancy website, terrible customer service, one-way communication, won't go the extra step to admit their wrongs. Signed a 3 year fixed solar plan with them earlier this year. What interest me was the fixed buyback plan they offered when having net exports at the end of the year. They changed their energy buyback plan (which in the contract was an option) just over a month ago to a variable market rate. Called them today after I had called weeks ago, left a voicemail, and never got a call back. Had questions over a bill increase. Was informed that they sent out emails over this buyback change. Was informed that I read this email. However after scouring through every folder in my emails...I never received this email. An email that waived an ETF in the event that I wanted to go with another energy provider. Upset that I never received this email, and never received a phone call back in a timely manner that could have opened options to waive this ETF. I have been with this company for almost 2 years and I have never been late on a bill, however, I made a payment of $95.00 on December 20th. The new bill became due on January 2nd, and I don't get paid until the 19th. I am getting calls like I am 3 months behind and threatened with electricity cut off in the next few days when the Arctic blast supposedly coming through north Texas in a few days. I asked for an arrangement for the 19th and was told not until half has been paid. When this contract is up I would advise NO ONE to use Energy Texas EVER. to update on my previous review... after numerous more calls with customer service. I was told today I owe $206 ( last week was $65 verbally and I asked to show the bill, before I pay. they requested final bill hence today's call). I tried to point out to her the bill was erroneous, the bill shows usage from 7/8-8/1 the meter difference is 1142-1097= 45KWH (house was vacant) and the bill shows 437KWH, however customer service rep bluntly refused to listen nor to discuss further by starting "this is the final bill that you have to pay", or it will be sent to collections I was told by her last week. we requested supervisor call back. this is ridiculous... I have another account with them and I always pay my bill the first day it is generated. and this is how they treat their customers .... My first bill with this same account was paid as soon as it was generated, and now trying to revolve the remaining balance from 2 extra weeks of usage and I now owe $206 because I had a previous balance? where is that balance even from ?! Your surge pricing is for anything "excess"; the problem with your "excess" comment is that nothing I produced went to my utilization at my home. I was also told by your customer care team that "ALL" solar companies are doing this and yet again, after just a couple of calls with almost no real research; found out that was not true either. I've been with this company for 2 years. I have been accumulating points for gift cards for 2 years. I just went to redeem my 480 points and was told after the first 150 point redemption that I can only do 1 redemption every 30 days! My contract is up this month and I am screwed out of the remaining points. If I had known this before I squandered my 150 points on a target gift card, I would have used all my points on paying my final bill. The website should have something in BOLD writing that only 1 redemption is allowed per month. I would have started redeeming them sooner. Customer service said there is nothing they can do. I acted after the bill came back without a credit and left messages for them which were not returned. Finally got a hold of someone during their operating hours and they were not helpful at all saying I should've contacted them sooner (I did but they never responded!) They also changed the solar buyback rate mid-contract and would not agree to waive the contract cancellation fee. Complete BS. They decided to change their Solar Buy Back policy after only a few months of launching it... complete bait and switch. They communicated that you could get out of the plan before the new changes on May 1st. So I cancelled my service with the last day of service on April 28th. My rate plan ran up and I saw no notification so they defaulted to a month to month. They claim they reached out via email but if they did it was maybe once. The worst part is that I have solar and they eliminated my by-back because of the month to month plan. Over the winter when I produce as much or more than I use they charge me high rate and no buy back. I have my bill on auto pay and notice this when I saw a large power bill on my credit card for December when it should have been next to nothing.
